Grand Theft Auto III is currently sold primarily as part of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which also includes Vice City and San Andreas. On PC, look at Steam and the Rockstar Games Launcher. On consoles, use PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, or Nintendo eShop. Physical Trilogy editions were announced for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Store prices, stock, regional listings, and subscription access change, so confirm the live listing immediately before buying.

The modern product is not usually a newly sold, separate “original GTA 3” release. The Definitive Edition packages GTA III with the other two games in the trilogy. Rockstar’s October 2021 release announcement identified the storefronts and physical formats, while individual stores determine the current price and local availability.

Buying GTA 3 on PC
Steam
Steam has a store page for Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition and also presents the three-game Trilogy bundle. Search for the exact title rather than assuming every result is the same product: older listings, soundtrack-related pages, or user-created content can appear alongside the current edition.
- Open the Steam store and search for “Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition.”
- Read the product title and description to determine whether the purchase is the individual GTA III entry or the complete Trilogy package.
- Review the listed operating-system, hardware, controller, and account requirements for your PC. The store’s current compatibility information takes precedence over old screenshots or forum posts.
- At checkout, note whether Steam requires you to link or sign in to a separate Rockstar account. The store listing is the place to confirm the current activation arrangement.
- After purchase, install from your Steam Library and launch through the account combination requested by the current version.
The evidence for a Steam listing establishes the PC storefront route, but it does not establish a permanent price, discount schedule, regional availability, or a universal account policy. Those details can change without changing the game’s name.

Rockstar Games Launcher
Rockstar announced PC availability through its own Games Launcher. This is a separate purchase path from Steam, so compare the product name, included games, and account attached to the transaction before paying.
- Install or open Rockstar Games Launcher from Rockstar’s official PC service.
- Search the store for the Definitive Edition or GTA III entry.
- Check the description for the exact games included and the current Windows requirements.
- Complete the purchase with the Rockstar account that you intend to use for installation and future access.
- Install the game from the launcher and keep the launcher available if it is required for authentication.
A Steam purchase and a Rockstar Games Launcher purchase are not automatically interchangeable licenses. If you already own one edition, sign in to the corresponding account and read the store’s ownership message before buying a second copy.
Buying GTA 3 on PlayStation
PlayStation Store
Rockstar announced digital availability through PlayStation Store and listed the Trilogy for PS4 and PS5 support. Open the store on the console or through the PlayStation account associated with your console, then search for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition or the GTA III Definitive Edition entry.

- Confirm that the listing is published for the PlayStation platform and shows the console generation you use.
- Read whether the purchase is the full Trilogy or a GTA III-only listing.
- Check the local price, edition, language information, storage requirement, and any “included with” or subscription wording displayed in your region.
- Verify which account will receive the license. A purchase made on one PlayStation account is not automatically transferred to another account on the same console.
- Download after purchase and use the store’s compatibility information if you are moving between PS4 and PS5.
“Available on PS5” and “available as a PS4 product playable on PS5” can describe different store arrangements. Use the exact compatibility labels shown by your regional PlayStation Store instead of relying on a retailer’s abbreviated title.
Physical PlayStation copies
Rockstar’s announcement named a physical PS4 Trilogy release. It did not establish current retailer inventory, a current price, or a package-specific download requirement. Before buying a disc, check the seller’s region, condition, included inserts or codes, and return policy. If you plan to use it on a PS5, confirm the console’s disc drive and the package’s stated compatibility rather than assuming every PS5 model accepts discs.

Buying GTA 3 on Xbox
Microsoft Store
Rockstar announced the Microsoft Store as the Xbox digital route, and Xbox has a product page for Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition. Xbox search results can show both an individual GTA III entry and the complete Trilogy, so inspect the included-content section before checkout.
- Search Microsoft Store on the web or on your Xbox for the exact Definitive Edition title.
- Check the “playable on” or platform information for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or both, as displayed in your region.
- Open the bundle or included-content panel and confirm whether Vice City and San Andreas are included.
- Review the current price, storage information, and any subscription or promotional language.
- Buy with the Microsoft account that will play the game, then install it from your library.
The existence of an Xbox product page does not guarantee that the same price, edition, or subscription treatment appears in every country. Microsoft Store listings are regional and can change over time.

Physical Xbox copies
Physical Trilogy editions were announced for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. A used or new disc may be tied to a particular region or console generation, and a package can require a download to complete installation. Ask the retailer for the exact platform printed on the box and read the package notes before purchasing.
Buying GTA 3 on Nintendo Switch
Nintendo eShop
Rockstar announced Nintendo eShop availability for the Definitive Edition. On Switch, search the eShop for the trilogy name and then inspect the product page for included games, supported language, required storage, and the account that will own the purchase.
- Open Nintendo eShop using the Nintendo Account that should receive the license.
- Search for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
- Confirm that GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas are listed in the product contents.
- Check the regional price, available space, download size, and any requirement for a microSD card or additional download shown by the live listing.
- Complete the purchase and download only after confirming that the selected Nintendo Account and region are correct.
Physical Switch copies
Rockstar also announced a physical Switch release. Physical stock is controlled by retailers, not by the original release announcement, so availability and pricing can differ sharply by country and date. Check whether the box contains all required game data or specifies a download, and verify the cartridge region if you import a copy.

What exactly do you get?
The Definitive Edition is the original trilogy—Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas—updated with enhancements. Buying the Trilogy therefore gives you GTA III plus two other games; it is not simply a remastered GTA III package.
Storefronts may present two different purchase choices: a GTA III Definitive Edition entry and a collection containing all three games. A lower price for one title may be preferable if you want only GTA III, while the bundle may make more sense if you expect to play the other two. Do not infer the contents from the artwork alone; use the listing’s included-games panel.
Can you buy GTA 3 by itself?
In some storefronts, yes: Steam and Xbox have listings identified as Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition. However, the official product family is also sold as the three-game Trilogy, and PlayStation and Nintendo listings can be presented primarily as the collection. Whether a standalone purchase is offered, and what it costs, depends on the live regional store.
Before paying, compare these fields:
- Exact product title and publisher.
- Games included in the purchase.
- Console generation or PC platform.
- Digital license versus physical disc or cartridge.
- Current local price and any temporary discount.
Digital or physical: which format fits?
Choose digital when
- You want immediate access without locating a retailer with stock.
- Your console or PC has enough storage for the listed installation.
- You prefer an account-based license and automatic updates.
- You have confirmed the correct regional storefront and account.
Choose physical when
- You want a disc or cartridge that can be resold or lent, subject to the platform’s rules.
- You find a reputable seller with the correct console generation and region.
- You have checked whether the package needs a download or online activation.
- You accept that stock, condition, and pricing vary by retailer.
The announcement of a physical edition proves that the format was planned and released for the named platforms; it does not prove that a particular retailer has stock today.
Five checks before you click Buy
- Match the platform. Select Windows PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series X|S, or Switch according to the device you own.
- Identify the edition. Make sure the title says Definitive Edition and determine whether it is GTA III alone or the Trilogy.
- Read compatibility details. Use the platform store’s current information for operating system, console generation, storage, language, and account requirements.
- Check the region and format. For discs and cartridges, verify seller location, region, condition, and download notes; for digital purchases, verify the account and country storefront.
- Recheck the live transaction. Prices, discounts, subscription access, stock, and package contents are volatile. Save the receipt and product title shown at checkout.

Buying the wrong trilogy product
Several products can use similar artwork or wording. If the checkout page does not clearly state whether it contains GTA III only or all three games, return to the product details and inspect the included-content list.

Prices and sales are regional and temporary. Treat a search-result snippet, old video, or cached retailer page as a lead only; use the live store total at checkout.
Ignoring account requirements
PC and console purchases attach to a platform account, and PC listings may also require a Rockstar account. Sign in to the intended account before paying and read the activation instructions.
Assuming physical stock is universal
A release announcement does not guarantee inventory in your country. Confirm seller, region, condition, edition, and any required download before ordering.
