If your usual furniture store has closed, you still have several local ways to shop: another showroom, an outlet or clearance location, an authorized independent dealer, a used-furniture outlet, or a thrift store. Because no city or ZIP code is specified here, the reliable approach is to search each option with your own location, then confirm hours and the exact item before leaving home.
Retailer locators are location-specific and change frequently. A listing that appears nearby may have different hours, delivery rules, floor stock, or return terms from another location in the same chain.
Start with a location-aware search
Use your city, state, or ZIP code rather than a generic “near me” result. Search engines can show permanently closed listings or outdated hours, while a retailer’s own locator is intended to show its current network.
1. Check the brand’s store and outlet locators
Many furniture brands provide separate paths for standard stores, outlets, and clearance locations. Ashley Furniture, for example, provides store and outlet locator links. Rooms To Go’s locator separates outlet listings from showroom listings. Enter your ZIP code, city, or state, and open the individual location record instead of relying only on the map pin.

The record should give you the address, current hours, phone number, and the type of location. A showroom generally displays current collections; an outlet or clearance site may focus on discontinued, overstocked, returned, or otherwise marked-down pieces. The precise mix is location-dependent, so treat the category as a starting point, not a guarantee about a particular sofa, table, or bedroom set.
Ashley’s locator page describes the purpose plainly: “Visit us in-store to browse, compare and make a purchase.” That is useful when you want to sit on a sofa or inspect a finish, but call first if you are traveling for one exact model.
2. Search authorized-dealer maps
A closed chain store does not mean the brand has disappeared from your area. Some manufacturers sell through independent furniture stores. New Classic Furniture’s authorized-dealer locator accepts a city, state, or ZIP code and can reveal dealers that do not share the manufacturer’s name on their storefront.

New Classic advises shoppers to call ahead to ask what is on the floor and what can be ordered. Use that question for any dealer when the item is not visible online.
Five local routes worth checking
New showrooms
Showrooms are the best route when you need to compare comfort, dimensions, colors, and construction in person. They may offer coordinated room displays and sales assistance, and they are more likely than secondhand outlets to have matching pieces or a repeatable ordering process. Their floor model is not necessarily available for immediate delivery; it may be a demonstration piece that must be ordered.
Outlet and clearance locations
Outlets are useful when price or immediate pickup matters more than finding the newest collection. Inventory can change daily, and an item may be a one-off. Ask whether the displayed piece is sold as-is, whether packaging is included, and whether the outlet can arrange delivery.
Authorized independent dealers
These stores can extend your search beyond the chain that closed. A dealer may have a manufacturer’s catalog available for order even when a specific finish or size is not on the floor. Confirm lead time, deposit requirements, warranty handling, and who provides service after delivery.

Used outlets can provide substantial savings and faster availability, especially for discontinued styles. CORT Furniture Outlet describes its previously leased furniture as refurbished, inspected, and graded. CORT currently advertises savings of “up to 70% off new retail prices” for previously leased furniture; that is the company’s marketing claim, not an independent market-wide comparison.

Condition grades are meaningful only when you understand the store’s definitions. Inspect upholstery for odors, stains, sagging, seam separation, and pet or smoke exposure. For case goods, check drawers, hinges, veneer edges, water marks, and structural wobble. Ask what cleaning or repair was performed and whether the item has any remaining manufacturer warranty.
Thrift stores and nonprofit outlets
Thrift stores can be the fastest way to find inexpensive chairs, tables, shelving, and occasional furniture, but stock is donated and unpredictable. Goodwill Industries International says it supports a network of 150 local Goodwill organizations. Its locator includes filters for retail stores and outlet locations, which helps you distinguish a conventional thrift store from an outlet format.
Expect more variation in condition, matching pieces, and delivery support than at a showroom. Measure your vehicle or arrange transportation before buying a large item, and ask about the store’s final-sale policy.
Compare the routes before you choose

No category is universally cheapest or best. Compare distance and current hours with the type of inventory, whether the exact piece is available now or only orderable, its condition, and the support you receive after purchase.
A repeatable search plan
- Write down the requirement. Record the furniture type, maximum width and height, preferred material or color, quantity, and your deadline. Include doorway, stairway, elevator, and vehicle measurements for bulky pieces.
- Run the primary locator search. Enter your ZIP code or city on the former retailer’s official store locator. Open both the standard-store and outlet options when they are offered.
- Check a second showroom network. Use another local furniture brand’s locator, such as the separate showroom and outlet listings provided by Rooms To Go, to avoid assuming the closed store was the only source.
- Search authorized dealers. Enter the same location in a manufacturer’s dealer locator, such as New Classic Furniture’s. Record independent stores that are within a practical driving distance.
- Add used and thrift options. Search a used-furniture outlet network and use Goodwill’s locator filters for retail and outlet stores. Treat these as separate stops because their inventory and policies differ.
- Verify the location record. Check the address, today’s hours, holiday exceptions, phone number, and whether the listing is a showroom, outlet, dealer, retail thrift store, or outlet format.
- Call with the exact specification. Give the model name or a detailed description, dimensions, finish, and quantity. Ask whether it is physically on the floor, in back stock, available at another branch, or orderable.
- Confirm the transaction terms. Ask for the selling price, delivery or pickup charge, estimated arrival, assembly, warranty, return window, restocking fee, and whether clearance or used items are final sale.
- Plan the route. Group stores by area, allow time for loading or delivery paperwork, and bring a tape measure and photos of the room. Do not assume a map’s travel time reflects loading, parking, or a large-item pickup.
- Recheck before departure. If the item is scarce or the trip is long, call again that day. A locator can show a valid store while the specific floor item has already sold.
What to ask before driving to a store
A short, specific call prevents the most common wasted trip. Ask:
- “Is the exact model, collection, or a close substitute physically at this location today?”
- “What are the assembled dimensions, and is the displayed piece the one being sold?”
- “If it is not on the floor, can you order the requested size and finish? What is the estimated lead time?”
- “Is this new, clearance, returned, previously leased, refurbished, or donated?”
- “Are there stains, repairs, missing hardware, cosmetic marks, or an as-is designation?”
- “What are the current hours, including any holiday or early-closing exception?”
- “Do you deliver to my ZIP code, and what are the delivery, assembly, and removal charges?”
- “What is the return policy for this exact item, and is a receipt required?”
For an authorized dealer, also ask who handles warranty claims if the manufacturer and the store are separate businesses. For an outlet or thrift store, ask whether a hold is possible and how long it lasts; policies vary by location.

The price on the tag is only one part of the decision. A low-cost item can become expensive if delivery, assembly, repairs, or a difficult return are involved. Record the policy in writing on the receipt or order confirmation.

CORT states that its outlet purchases may be returned within 14 days with a receipt. That is CORT’s stated policy and may be subject to product or location exceptions, so verify the current terms before paying. Do not transfer that 14-day period to other used outlets, showrooms, or thrift stores.

For any large purchase, compare the complete delivered cost:
- Item price and sales tax
- Delivery, stairs, long-carry, and assembly charges
- Pickup or disposal fees if the retailer offers them
- Deposit, financing, or cancellation requirements
- Repair, warranty, and return shipping responsibilities
Inspect a delivered item before signing if the carrier allows it. Photograph visible damage, retain packaging until you are sure the item is acceptable, and report problems through the channel named on your receipt.
When the first search produces no result
The locator shows no nearby store
Expand the radius or search by the neighboring city rather than abandoning the brand. Then check its outlet and authorized-dealer paths separately; a manufacturer may have independent representation even when it has no company showroom nearby.

Try the location’s posted hours, leave a concise message with the model and ZIP code, and check another official listing for the same branch. Do not rely on an old directory entry when the retailer’s own page is unavailable.
The exact item is unavailable
Ask whether the store can order it, locate it at another branch, or suggest the same dimensions in another finish. If your deadline is firm, switch to outlet, used, or thrift inventory where the item can be inspected and taken immediately.
The item is too large for your vehicle
Request a written delivery quote before purchase. Used and thrift outlets may have limited delivery coverage, while showrooms and authorized dealers may offer scheduled delivery with separate assembly charges.
Make the trip efficient
Start with stores that can answer your exact-item question by phone, then visit locations where physical inspection matters most. Bring your room measurements, a floor-plan sketch, and photos of nearby colors and finishes. At each stop, note the item’s dimensions, condition, price, delivery date, and return terms in the same format so you can compare without relying on memory.

Keep the distinction clear: a showroom emphasizes new, orderable inventory; an outlet emphasizes changing markdown stock; a used outlet offers secondhand pieces that may be inspected or refurbished; and a thrift store offers donated inventory with the widest variation. Checking all four paths gives you a realistic local alternative after a regular store closes.
