You can buy Crash ’n the Boys: Street Challenge as a digital Nintendo Switch game through Nintendo’s US or UK store. The original NES cartridge also exists, but it is a used-game search: its manual documents the release, while current stock and prices are not established. Choose Switch for the listed modern play modes; choose the cartridge route if you specifically want the NES edition and are prepared to check a seller’s listing carefully.
Where to buy Crash ’n the Boys: Street Challenge
Nintendo’s US store lists a digital Nintendo Switch edition, and Nintendo’s UK store lists a Switch download edition. Check that you are viewing the storefront for your region and that the product page describes the edition you intend to buy. Nintendo lists the US release date as April 16, 2020; the UK page gives April 15, 2020.
For the original NES version, look in the used-game market rather than assuming a new retail release is available. The original instruction manual identifies the game as NES-SB-USA, names American Technos, and carries a 1992 copyright notice. That confirms an original physical NES release existed; it does not establish that any particular seller has a cartridge in stock today.
| Route | What is documented | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch digital edition | Nintendo’s US store lists the game, released April 16, 2020. The UK listing gives April 15, 2020. | Storefront region, edition, current availability, and the price shown on Nintendo’s listing. |
| Original NES cartridge | The original manual identifies the NES-SB-USA release and bears a 1992 copyright notice for American Technos. | That the listing is for the NES game; the cartridge’s condition and region; whether a box or manual is included; seller terms and the current asking price. |
No current cartridge inventory, seller, or used-market price is established here. Treat each listing as an individual purchase, not as proof that the game is broadly in stock or that a particular price is typical.

How to choose between the Switch edition and the NES original
The main decision is whether you want the convenience and listed play options of Nintendo’s Switch edition or the physical NES release. The versions should not be treated as identical in every respect: Nintendo says the Switch edition includes the original graphics only and does not include the quality-up graphics version.
- Choose Switch if you want a digital purchase and the play modes Nintendo lists: TV, tabletop, and handheld modes; one-system play for 1–4 players; and online play for 2–4 players.
- Look for the NES cartridge if owning or playing the original physical NES release is the point. The manual supports the existence of that release, but you will need to assess an individual used listing.
- Do not assume the editions have the same graphics options. Nintendo’s product description says the Switch version has original graphics only; it does not include the quality-up graphics version.
Nintendo describes the game as a competition among five teams, with events that twist familiar sports. Its examples include pole vaulting between rooftops, playing golf with a throwing hammer, and interfering with opponents during the 400-meter hurdles. Those examples give a better sense of the premise than a conventional sports-game label: the publisher presents it as an unusual, mischievous contest rather than a straightforward athletics simulation.

What to check before buying an NES cartridge
A manual is useful evidence that the NES release exists, but it cannot verify the authenticity or condition of a cartridge offered for sale. Before paying, inspect the actual listing and ask the seller for details if the description or photos leave important questions unanswered.

- Confirm the platform and exact game. Make sure the listing is for Crash ’n the Boys: Street Challenge on NES, not another edition or a different game with similar wording. The manual’s NES-SB-USA code is a useful reference for identifying the documented US release.
- Check the region information. The manual identifies the release as NES-SB-USA. Compare the seller’s description and photos with the region you intend to collect or use; do not infer a cartridge’s region from a short title alone.
- Inspect the cartridge photos. Look for clear images of the item being sold, especially where the listing makes claims about condition or completeness. If the photos are generic, missing, or too unclear to assess, ask for current photos before purchase.
- Separate cartridge condition from completeness. A listing may be for a cartridge only, or may include a box and manual. Confirm exactly which pieces are included rather than assuming the manual documented in the release comes with the item.
- Read the seller’s terms. Check the return policy and any stated condition or testing information. The available documentation here does not verify a particular seller, test result, or guarantee, so those details must come from the individual listing.
- Evaluate the current asking price on its own merits. No current market price is established here. Compare live listings yourself and account for condition, included materials, shipping, and seller terms instead of relying on an unsupported price benchmark.
These checks help you decide whether a listing is sufficiently clear to buy; they are not a guarantee of authenticity. If the seller cannot establish what is included or provide useful photos, consider waiting for a better-documented listing.

What the original game is—and what the Switch listing says
Nintendo’s official Switch product description frames the contest around five teams and unusual events. It says: “Coming from the city of Springhill, Crash and his friends have chosen to take on Todd’s sports challenge, but for the 5 entering teams, the trials aren’t your usual athletic disciplines.” This is publisher-provided product-page wording, not a statement attributed to a named individual.
The specific examples Nintendo gives are rooftop pole vaulting, golf played with a throwing hammer, and interference with opponents in the 400-meter hurdles. They establish the broad comic, unconventional premise, but they should not be read as a complete event list. The product information also does not establish that every mode or feature from the original NES release is reproduced unchanged on Switch.

For the Switch edition, Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. Its player counts distinguish local play on one system from online play: 1–4 players on one system and 2–4 online. These are product attributes from Nintendo’s listing, not independent performance findings. If a particular player count or mode matters to your purchase, confirm it on the Nintendo page for your region.
What is and is not established about the NES release
The original manual is the evidence for the physical NES edition: it names the game, gives the code NES-SB-USA, identifies American Technos, and carries a 1992 copyright notice. This supports describing the NES original as a documented release. It does not establish present-day retail availability, the number of surviving cartridges, a typical collector price, or whether any used listing is genuine.

Likewise, Nintendo’s Switch listing establishes a digital Switch route and its stated attributes, but not that the Switch edition includes the quality-up graphics version; Nintendo explicitly says it does not. For buyers deciding between formats, keep the evidence separate: use Nintendo’s listing for the Switch edition’s stated release and play options, and evaluate any cartridge using the seller’s actual item details.
A practical buying decision
If you mainly want to play the game and prefer a digital route, start with the Nintendo store for your region and review the edition details there. If your goal is to own the NES original, search used listings and buy only when the platform, region, condition, included materials, price, and seller terms are clear enough for you. The manual confirms the cartridge release existed; it cannot tell you which listings are available now or whether a particular seller’s item is authentic.
