Stream Train stores its Windows save data in %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata. The folder contains the game’s .pog save files. Close Stream Train before copying the entire data folder to a dated folder, another drive, or a USB drive. Stream Train has Steam Cloud support, but cloud synchronization can fail or create a conflict, so a separate local backup is the safest protection before reinstalling Windows, changing PCs, switching branches, or restoring an older save.

Game Stream Train
Developer listed by SteamDB Half Past Yellow
Steam App ID 4071650
Windows save directory %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata
Save-file pattern *.pog
Cloud feature Steam Cloud is listed as supported

The data directory is the important unit to protect. Treat all of its .pog files as one save set rather than copying only a file that happens to look newest.

How to open the folder

The folders under AppData are commonly hidden in normal browsing views. Pasting the complete path is faster and avoids accidentally stopping at the wrong Local or LocalLow directory.

  1. Quit Stream Train completely. Do not leave it running in the background while you search for or copy saves.
  2. Press Win+R to open the Windows Run dialog.
  3. Paste %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata into the box.
  4. Press Enter. Windows should open the Stream Train save folder in File Explorer.
  5. Look for files ending in .pog. Those are the files covered by the game’s configured save pattern.

You can use the same path in File Explorer’s address bar. If Windows reports that the location cannot be found, first make sure the game has been installed and launched at least once under the Windows account you are using. A different Windows account has a different %USERPROFILE% value.

What you should copy

Copy the complete data folder

A dependable manual backup contains the entire data folder, including every .pog file inside it. Copying the folder as a unit preserves the set of saves that existed together at one point in time. It also leaves room for files that the game may create in the same directory even if you do not recognize them immediately.

Do not copy while the game is saving

Close Stream Train before starting the copy. A running game can write a save while File Explorer is reading the folder, leaving a backup that contains an incomplete or mixed state. Closing the game first gives you a stable point-in-time snapshot.

Leave the original untouched

Make the backup by copying, not by moving, the data folder. Keep the original in its normal location until you have checked that the backup exists and contains the expected .pog files.

Manual backup: step-by-step

  1. Exit Stream Train and wait until it is no longer running.
  2. Open the save location with %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata.
  3. In File Explorer, select the entire data folder rather than selecting one save file.
  4. Choose Copy.
  5. Open a separate destination, such as a dated folder on another internal drive or a USB flash drive, and choose Paste.
  6. Give the backup a clear name that identifies when it was made, for example a date-based name. A dated name helps you distinguish a known-good state from a later damaged or unwanted state.
  7. Open the copied folder and confirm that the expected .pog files are present. Do not delete or overwrite the original until this check succeeds.

A second folder on the same physical drive protects against an accidental deletion or a bad restore, but it does not protect against failure of that drive. A USB copy can be carried to another PC and kept away from the computer being repaired. For important progress, retain more than one dated copy rather than replacing the only backup each time.

Choosing between a folder copy and Steam Cloud

Steam Cloud is convenient because it can synchronize supported game data through Steam. SteamDB lists Cloud support for Stream Train, but cloud synchronization is not an infallible archive. Steam Support documents situations in which synchronization fails or Steam presents a conflict between local and cloud data.

Method Control Portability Recovery clarity Main risk
Manual copy of the data folder You choose the exact point-in-time snapshot Copy can be placed on another drive or USB storage Dated folders make a known-good state easy to identify Requires you to perform and verify the copy
Second folder on the same PC Exact snapshot under your control Limited to that computer or drive Simple to select a dated copy Does not protect against failure of the same physical drive
USB flash-drive copy Exact snapshot under your control Can be moved to another PC You can select a dated backup without relying on Steam Must be safely retained and not accidentally overwritten
Steam Cloud Automatic when synchronization works Available through Steam on another installation A conflict may require comparing local and cloud progress Synchronization can fail or choose the wrong state if you accept a conflict without checking

These methods are complementary. Cloud synchronization is useful for routine continuity, while a manual folder copy gives you a snapshot that you can identify and restore deliberately.

How to restore a Stream Train backup

Restoration replaces the current local save directory with a copy you have already made. Preserve the current directory first so an unsuccessful restore can be reversed.

  1. Exit Stream Train.
  2. Exit Steam as well, so neither program can synchronize or write the saves during the replacement.
  3. Open %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Train.
  4. Rename the existing data folder to a name such as data-before-restore. Renaming keeps the current state available instead of deleting it.
  5. Copy your backed-up data folder into the Stream Train directory. The resulting path should again be %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata.
  6. Start Steam and then launch Stream Train.
  7. Check that the expected progress is present before removing the renamed folder or replacing your backup.

If the game does not show the expected progress, close it without making further changes, keep both the restored and renamed folders, and reassess which copy contains the desired saves. Do not overwrite a known-good backup while troubleshooting.

Handling a Steam Cloud conflict

When Steam reports that local and cloud data differ, do not choose an option solely because it is labeled newer or because it appears first. Compare the progress represented by each copy and select the version that contains the progress you intend to keep.

  • If the local files contain your latest progress, preserve them with a manual copy before responding to the conflict.
  • If the cloud copy contains the progress you need and the local folder is stale, make a separate copy of the local folder first, then allow the cloud version to be used.
  • If you are uncertain, stop before accepting either option. Keep the local data folder and any dated backups so you can return to the decision.

Steam Cloud availability does not remove the need for a manual backup. A synchronization failure or an incorrect conflict choice can otherwise leave you without an easy, known-good rollback point.

When to make a backup

Before reinstalling Windows

Copy the complete data folder to storage that will not be erased by the reinstall. Verify the copied .pog files before formatting or resetting the system. After Stream Train is installed again, close the game and Steam before placing the saved folder back in the path shown above.

Before moving to another PC

Use a USB drive or another portable destination for the dated folder copy. On the new PC, install and launch Stream Train once if necessary to create its directory, exit both Stream Train and Steam, and then copy the saved data folder into the matching LocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Train location under the new Windows account.

Before switching branches or making risky changes

Keep a dated snapshot before switching game branches or experimenting with save files. If the new state is not what you wanted, the original folder remains available for a controlled restore.

Before restoring cloud data

Make a local copy before accepting a cloud version that differs from the files on the PC. This gives you a fallback if the cloud state is older or does not contain the progress you expected.

Troubleshooting common problems

The path opens, but there are no .pog files

  • Confirm that you opened the path under the Windows account that runs Stream Train.
  • Launch the game once, exit it normally, and check the path again.
  • Verify that you used LocalLow, not Local, and that the publisher folder is Half Past Yellow.
  • Search within the opened data folder for files matching *.pog.

Do not create replacement files by hand. The documented save pattern tells you which files to preserve, not how to reconstruct a missing save.

The folder is hidden while browsing

Use the full path in the Run dialog or File Explorer address bar instead of trying to reveal every hidden directory manually. Pasting the path takes you directly to the intended location.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The game starts with older progress after a restore

Close the game and Steam, then check that the restored folder is in the exact data path and that it contains the backup’s .pog files. A cloud conflict may have caused Steam to use a different copy, so compare the local folder and the cloud choice before proceeding. Keep the renamed data-before-restore folder until the result is confirmed.

A cloud sync reports a conflict or failure

Do not overwrite either side immediately. Make a manual copy of the local data folder, inspect which version reflects the progress you want, and then choose that version in Steam’s conflict prompt. If neither version is clearly correct, preserve both and use your dated manual backup.

You copied only one save file

Return to the original folder and copy the entire data directory. Keeping all .pog files together avoids omitting another slot or related save state.

What Steam’s Backup Feature does—and does not replace

Steam’s official Backup Feature documentation describes creating backup files from a game’s Steam Library properties and storing or moving those copies elsewhere. It also explains that save locations for third-party games are determined by each developer. For Stream Train, the developer-specific save location is the LocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata folder documented above.

Use the manual folder procedure when your goal is specifically to protect Stream Train progress. A Steam installation backup and a save-data snapshot address different parts of recovery: one concerns the game files managed through Steam, while the other preserves the files Stream Train writes in its own save directory.

Safe handling rules for Stream Train saves

  • Close Stream Train before every backup or restore.
  • Close Steam before replacing a save folder or resolving a cloud conflict.
  • Copy the whole data folder, not an isolated .pog file.
  • Use dated backup names so you can identify the intended progress state.
  • Keep the original folder or a pre-restore rename until the game has been tested.
  • Keep at least one backup outside the drive that holds your Windows installation when the progress matters.
  • Never assume Steam Cloud is a substitute for a verified manual snapshot.

The practical path is therefore straightforward: close the game, copy %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowHalf Past YellowStream Traindata, verify the copied .pog files, and retain that dated copy until you know the game and any Steam Cloud synchronization are behaving as expected.
