On a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet using Samsung Keyboard, open a text field, tap the Clipboard icon in the keyboard toolbar, then select the copied item you want to paste. The icon may be hidden or placed differently depending on your device and One UI version.
Open clipboard history with Samsung Keyboard
- Copy an item. In the app where the text or image appears, select it and choose Copy. Samsung also documents copying a photo in Gallery or long-pressing an image in Samsung Internet and choosing Copy image. Some apps do not allow their content to be copied.
- Open the destination app. Tap a text-entry field to bring up Samsung Keyboard.
- Open Clipboard. Tap the Clipboard icon on the keyboard toolbar, then tap the item you want to paste.
Samsung also documents opening Clipboard by long-pressing a text field; on some devices or screens, it appears in the field’s three-dot menu. Menu placement and labels vary by device and software version. Samsung’s Galaxy clipboard guide describes the keyboard-toolbar method, while Samsung Colombia’s guide includes the alternate access methods.
What to do if the Clipboard icon is missing
- Check the keyboard toolbar setting. Open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings and make sure the keyboard toolbar is enabled. Exact labels can differ.
- Add Clipboard to the visible toolbar. With Samsung Keyboard open, tap the toolbar’s three-dot menu. Find Clipboard and drag its icon into the visible toolbar.
- Confirm which keyboard is active. Samsung’s steps apply to Samsung Keyboard. If you use another keyboard, check its own settings or help: it may offer different clipboard controls or no clipboard-history feature.
These remedies and the possibility of interface differences are covered in Samsung Colombia’s instructions and Samsung’s regional guide.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat you can copy—and what stays in Clipboard
Samsung describes Clipboard as temporary storage for copied or cut text and images. It is not a general file-transfer area: Samsung’s Russian support guidance says documents, audio and video files cannot be copied to Clipboard, and some apps may block copying text or images.

Samsung’s Japan support article, updated September 17, 2026, states a limit of 20 pinned items; for Android 10 and earlier, it states a limit of up to 10. Samsung says pinned items remain in the clipboard. These figures describe the versions identified in that article, not a guarantee that every Galaxy device has the same limit. See Samsung Japan’s clipboard guidance.
Save screenshots to Clipboard
On supported software, Samsung Keyboard settings include an option to save screenshots to Clipboard. Samsung Japan identifies this capability as available on Android 13 or later. Screenshots taken while the option is off are not added retroactively when you turn it on; only subsequent screenshots can be captured by the setting. Samsung Japan’s instructions describe the option.

Clipboard versus AI Select and Circle to Search
AI Select and Circle to Search can copy selected or extracted text to Clipboard on compatible devices. They are ways to select or extract content, not the place to open ordinary clipboard history. Samsung’s US One UI 8.0 guide lists AI Select support for Galaxy S25 and S24 series, Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Flip7 FE, and Tab S11 series. Treat that list as specific to that guide and its software rollout; feature availability can vary by device and region. Samsung’s US One UI 8.0 guide provides its eligibility details.

No. The on-screen Samsung Keyboard is enough to open clipboard history. A tablet keyboard cover is an optional typing accessory, not a requirement for using Clipboard; Samsung describes its keyboard covers separately as accessories. Samsung’s keyboard-cover listing is an example of that separate accessory category.
