Buzz by Block can be self-hosted on a virtual private server (VPS), but the right choice depends on whether you want to install and manage its Docker setup yourself or prefer a provider marketplace image. Based on Cybernews’s comparison, Bluehost and DigitalOcean are two options to consider; its third recommendation is omitted here. The comparison was last updated August 26, 2026, and its rankings, features, and prices are editorial claims—not independently verified current offers.

What Buzz needs from a VPS

Cybernews reports that Buzz requires Docker Compose and recommends Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. It gives minimum requirements of 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, and recommends 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM. These are the comparison article’s reported figures, not independently confirmed requirements. Check Buzz by Block’s current deployment documentation before choosing a server or following installation steps.

You will also need a domain pointed at the VPS. Budget for it separately unless your chosen plan explicitly includes one.

Two VPS options in the comparison

Provider Deployment approach reported by Cybernews Starting price reported by Cybernews Practical fit
Bluehost VPS Manual Docker Compose setup and command-line administration; no Buzz one-click deployment was reported. $4.69/month, as listed in the comparison last updated August 26, 2026; not a verified October 2026 quote. Experienced users comfortable administering an unmanaged VPS. Cybernews says a domain must be obtained separately.
DigitalOcean Droplets Cybernews reports a Docker Droplet marketplace option, usage-based billing, and the ability to scale resources. $4.00/month, as listed in the comparison last updated August 26, 2026; not a verified October 2026 quote. Developers who want flexible server sizing and are comfortable managing a VPS. Cybernews says a domain is separate.

The listed starting prices do not establish the cost of a Buzz-ready setup. The comparison does not provide enough detail here to calculate total cost across suitable server sizes, billing periods, domain registration, backups, or other add-ons. Confirm current pricing, renewal terms, included resources, billing granularity, and any additional charges with the provider before purchasing.

Bluehost: manual setup

Cybernews describes Bluehost as a command-line option rather than a one-click Buzz deployment. That means you should be prepared to install and configure Docker Compose yourself, maintain the server, and troubleshoot deployment issues. The comparison’s recommendation is most relevant if you already have Linux and container-administration experience; it does not establish that a beginner-friendly Buzz installer is available.

DigitalOcean: marketplace image and flexible sizing

Cybernews reports that DigitalOcean offers a Docker Droplet through its marketplace and supports resource scaling. A marketplace image can provide a Docker-oriented starting point, but the comparison does not establish that this image deploys Buzz itself or meets Buzz’s current configuration requirements. Check the image description and Buzz documentation before relying on it. Verify the current Droplet price and billing details, as well as charges for backups or networking services you choose to enable.

How to choose between them

  • Choose a manual route only if you can administer it: Bluehost’s reported path involves Docker Compose and the command line.
  • Favor a marketplace starting point if it matches your setup: DigitalOcean’s reported Docker Droplet may help with the Docker environment, but it is not confirmed as a Buzz-specific deployment.
  • Size for the workload, not the advertised entry price: compare each live plan with the reported minimum of 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, and consider the reported recommendation of 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM.
  • Calculate the full recurring cost: account for the VPS, a separate domain where required, and any optional services such as backups.
  • Check operational controls: confirm the administration method, backup options, security features, and support scope for the exact plan before committing.

How Cybernews arrived at its ranking

Cybernews says its 2026 scoring weights ease of use at 30%, resources and features at 30%, security at 20%, and pricing at 20%. Those percentages describe that publisher’s methodology, not an independent technical benchmark. The article also says it may earn affiliate commissions from recommended products, so treat its ordering as an editorial recommendation rather than a neutral test result.

Keep the similarly named services separate

Buzz by Block is the open-source workspace this article addresses. Buzz Development also lists hosting for its own products on a buzz.dev subdomain; that is a separate service and should not be mistaken for a VPS host for Buzz by Block.
