Bell helicopters are manufactured across several facilities rather than at one plant. Bell identifies Mirabel, Quebec, as its commercial aircraft assembly and delivery center; Amarillo, Texas, as an aircraft assembly center with a major military-program history; and Chihuahua, Mexico, as an aircraft-assembly location. Other work is divided among Texas sites: Fort Worth handles advanced composites and rotor systems, while Grand Prairie handles drive systems. Bell has also announced a future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) arrangement involving fuselage assembly in Wichita, Kansas, supporting work in Texas, and planned final assembly in Amarillo.
That distinction matters because “manufactured” can mean final aircraft assembly, component fabrication, engineering, flight testing, certification, or customer delivery. Bell’s own facility categories show that these activities are distributed across locations, and the company does not publish a single plant that builds every Bell helicopter model.
Bell helicopter manufacturing locations at a glance
Bell’s January 2025 global-footprint chart separates aircraft assembly from component, fabrication, and research functions. The table below summarizes what Bell has publicly identified for each location.
| Location | Bell-listed role | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Mirabel, Quebec, Canada | Commercial aircraft assembly and delivery | Integrated commercial production site with advanced manufacturing, flight testing, certification, and customer delivery. |
| Amarillo, Texas, United States | Aircraft assembly | Historically associated with military helicopters and V-22 final assembly; planned final-assembly site for FLRAA. |
| Chihuahua, Mexico | Aircraft assembly category | Bell’s map lists the location, but the cited material does not identify a model or specific production line. |
| Fort Worth, Texas, United States | Advanced composites and rotor systems; other manufacturing and research work | A component, fabrication, and engineering location, not the same category as a complete-aircraft assembly center. |
| Grand Prairie, Texas, United States | Drive systems | Supports aircraft production through drivetrain work rather than being identified as a principal final-assembly site. |
| Wichita, Kansas, United States | Announced FLRAA fuselage assembly | Program-specific future plan announced in 2024; it should not be treated as a general Bell helicopter plant or as completed production. |
Mirabel, Quebec: Bell’s commercial helicopter assembly and delivery center
Mirabel is the clearest answer for where Bell’s commercial helicopters are assembled. Bell’s current description calls the Quebec facility an integrated commercial assembly and delivery center. Its capabilities include advanced manufacturing, flight testing, certification, and handing completed aircraft to customers. In practical terms, Mirabel is not merely a parts plant: it is the location Bell identifies for the end-to-end commercial process from assembly through acceptance and delivery.

A four-decade Canadian production history
Bell says the Mirabel operation opened in 1986. The first aircraft assembled there was a Bell 206B JetRanger. Since then, the site has become the company’s long-running Canadian base for commercial aircraft production. Bell’s September 29, 2026 retrospective describes the Mirabel team as having delivered more than 6,000 aircraft in Canada over its history. That is a Bell-published cumulative figure, not an independent industry count, and it covers the site’s historical output rather than a single current model.
The 6,000th-aircraft milestone
On May 12, 2025, Bell announced completion of its 6,000th commercial aircraft at Bell Textron Canada. The announcement quoted Bell chief commercial officer Danny Maldonado: “Our 6,000th helicopter built in Canada demonstrates our commitment to manufacturing aircraft capable of performing the most critical missions, as well as our dedication to contributing to Quebec’s economy.” The 2025 announcement and the 2026 retrospective use slightly different wording—one records the milestone event, while the later history describes cumulative Canadian production—so both figures should be understood in their published context.
What Mirabel does beyond assembly
Bell’s description combines several functions that are often separated in casual explanations. Aircraft are assembled there, but the site also supports flight testing and certification before delivery. A helicopter can therefore be engineered or supplied with components from other Bell locations and still be described as commercially assembled and delivered in Mirabel. “Made in Mirabel” does not mean every part originates in Quebec; it identifies the principal commercial integration point.

Amarillo, Texas: military assembly and the planned FLRAA final-assembly site
Amarillo is Bell’s other explicitly named aircraft-assembly center. Bell’s account of the site emphasizes defense and military programs, making it different from Mirabel’s commercial focus. The Amarillo assembly center has produced military helicopters including the OH-58, UH-1Y, and AH-1Z. Those examples are historical production statements and should not be read as a promise that all three models remain in current production.
How Amarillo became a Bell assembly location
Bell says it selected Amarillo in 1998 as the future home of V-22 final assembly. The site’s history therefore includes tiltrotor production as well as conventional helicopter programs. Final assembly means the facility integrates major structures, systems, and equipment into a complete aircraft, followed by the inspections and acceptance activities required for that program. It does not imply that every component is fabricated in Amarillo.
Amarillo’s announced role in FLRAA
In a November 6, 2024 announcement, Bell identified Amarillo as the planned final-assembly location for the U.S. Army’s Future Long Range Assault Aircraft. The same plan assigns fuselage assembly to Wichita, Kansas, and supporting work to Texas facilities, including Fort Worth’s Advanced Composite Center. Bell’s announcement quoted U.S. Senator Jerry Moran: “Bell Textron’s decision to continue production of the Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft in Kansas marks an historic day for the Air Capital of the World.”

These are announced FLRAA plans, not evidence that a completed FLRAA production line is already operating. FLRAA is a specific defense program, so its Wichita, Texas, and Amarillo assignments should not be generalized to Bell’s commercial helicopters or presented as a replacement for Bell’s broader facility map. Program schedules, contracts, and production arrangements can change as development and government approvals proceed.

Bell’s January 2025 facility chart places Chihuahua under the aircraft-assembly category. That establishes Chihuahua as part of Bell’s assembly footprint, but the cited Bell material does not say which helicopter, tiltrotor, or other aircraft model is built there. It also does not specify whether the operation is final assembly, subassembly, or another form of aircraft-assembly work.
Because no model is identified, it would be inaccurate to attach a particular Bell helicopter to Chihuahua based only on the map. The safest description is that Bell lists an aircraft-assembly site in Chihuahua, while the exact products and scope are not stated in the available public material. This is a useful example of why a location list should not be turned into a model-by-model production claim without a program-specific source.

Fort Worth and Grand Prairie: components, fabrication, and research rather than one central assembly line
Fort Worth and Grand Prairie are important manufacturing-related locations, but Bell categorizes their work differently from Mirabel and Amarillo. Bell’s facility map lists advanced composites and rotor systems in Fort Worth. Composite structures can include lightweight airframe parts, while rotor-system work covers the assemblies that generate lift and control forces. These activities feed aircraft programs but do not by themselves establish that a complete helicopter is assembled at the same location.
Grand Prairie is listed for drive systems. Drive-system work concerns the transmission and related power-transfer equipment that carries engine power to the rotor system. Such work is essential to a finished helicopter, yet a drive-system facility is a component and systems site, not automatically a final-assembly plant.
Bell also identifies Texas locations as participating in fabrication and research. For readers trying to determine where an aircraft is “made,” the practical distinction is this: a helicopter may receive composite structures, rotor systems, drivetrain hardware, engineering, or testing support in Texas and still undergo final commercial assembly in Mirabel or final military-program assembly in Amarillo.

Wichita, Kansas: a future FLRAA fuselage-assembly site
Wichita is connected to Bell manufacturing through the FLRAA program rather than through Bell’s general commercial-helicopter network. Bell announced Wichita for FLRAA fuselage assembly in November 2024. Under that arrangement, Wichita would build fuselage structures, Texas facilities would provide supporting work, and Amarillo would perform planned final assembly.
Why the Wichita announcement needs a qualifier
The announcement describes a program-specific manufacturing plan. It does not establish Wichita as a location where Bell’s current commercial helicopter range is assembled, nor does it prove that FLRAA aircraft are already in serial production there. A current article should distinguish an announced site from an operating production line and should check for later FLRAA updates before making claims about construction, delivery dates, or production volumes.
How to read Bell’s manufacturing footprint
Assembly is not the same as parts production
Aircraft manufacturing is a chain of specialized operations. A facility may fabricate a fuselage or composite panel, produce rotor or drive-system hardware, conduct engineering and research, assemble a complete aircraft, test it in flight, certify it, or deliver it to a customer. Bell’s map lists these categories separately, so the location of a component should not be substituted for the location of final aircraft assembly.
Commercial and defense programs use different footprints
Mirabel is the named commercial assembly and delivery center. Amarillo’s published history centers on military helicopters and V-22 assembly, and its announced FLRAA role is defense-specific. Treating both sites as interchangeable obscures the programs they support. It is more accurate to identify the aircraft family and program first, then name the relevant site.
“Built by Bell” does not mean one-country, one-plant production
Bell’s distributed model allows specialized work to move between facilities. A completed aircraft can incorporate components made in Texas, fuselage work planned for Kansas, and final integration in Amarillo or Mirabel. Country-of-origin questions may require additional customs or regulatory documentation; the facility map alone is not a certificate of origin for every part.
What the public record does—and does not—establish
- Bell publicly identifies Mirabel, Amarillo, and Chihuahua as aircraft-assembly locations in its January 2025 global-footprint chart.
- Bell describes Mirabel as its commercial assembly, flight-test, certification, and delivery center and says the operation began in 1986.
- Bell’s Amarillo history names the OH-58, UH-1Y, AH-1Z, and V-22 programs in historical context.
- Bell identifies Fort Worth for advanced composites and rotor systems and Grand Prairie for drive systems.
- Bell announced Wichita fuselage assembly, Texas support work, and Amarillo final assembly for FLRAA as a future-program plan in 2024.
- The available facility material does not identify which model is assembled in Chihuahua.
- No single cited source supports the claim that every Bell helicopter model is built at one plant.
Bottom line for readers asking “Where are Bell helicopters made?”
For commercial Bell helicopters, the primary named assembly and delivery center is Mirabel, Quebec. For military and defense-related assembly, Amarillo, Texas, is the principal named site in Bell’s published history, with planned FLRAA final assembly there. Chihuahua is listed as an aircraft-assembly location, but its specific models are not identified in the available material. Fort Worth and Grand Prairie supply major systems and manufacturing capabilities, while Wichita is an announced FLRAA fuselage site. The correct answer therefore depends on the aircraft program and on whether “manufactured” means final assembly or one of the many component and support operations that make the aircraft possible.
