Companies are using AI across the sales funnel—not just to write emails. Deployed systems score leads, assemble account context, update CRM records, restart stalled conversations, prepare meetings, and help draft RFP responses. Most of the examples below automate or assist bounded tasks; they do not replace the seller’s role in reviewing advice, handling qualified prospects, or managing relationships.
Ten real examples of AI in sales
The cases below come from vendor-published customer stories and McKinsey’s descriptions of deployments. Results are attributed to those sources; they use different measures and baselines, so they are not a controlled comparison.
| Company or organization | Sales work and information used | Human role | Published result |
|---|---|---|---|
| ServiceNow | On an Azure Databricks data and AI platform, its go-to-market team uses AI to score leads, personalize prospecting emails, and tailor demo decks. | The case describes tools supporting the sales process; it does not establish that an AI system independently owns prospect relationships. | ServiceNow and Microsoft report that lead-scoring latency fell from four hours to 30 minutes. Outreach Assist generated more than 65,000 emails in 2024, reduced email-creation time from 20 minutes to under two, and produced a 3.3-times lift in meetings. The case also reports 1.5-times faster deal velocity. These are the companies’ case claims, not independently audited results. (Microsoft Customer Stories, May 14, 2026.) |
| Schneider Electric | Microsoft Copilot for Sales, integrated with Salesforce, helps create contacts from email signatures, update CRM records in Outlook or Teams, and summarize long email threads and meetings. | Salespeople work with the CRM assistance in their existing communication tools. | Microsoft said 5,000 people in more than 30 countries were using the product when the story was published on October 15, 2024. A goal of reaching 10,500 users by the end of 2024 was a target, not confirmation of achieved adoption. The story gives no quantified productivity lift. |
| SaaStr | Hexi, an Agentforce sales agent, follows up with neglected warm leads using CRM history, email engagement, and website behavior. | Guardrails constrain the agent, and promising conversations are handed to a person. | Salesforce and SaaStr report a 72% email open rate, a response rate above 10%, $2.7 million in additional closed revenue, and $3.5 million in pipeline. These are company-reported case results, not an independent trial. (Salesforce Customer Stories, July 31, 2026.) |
| Moody’s | An internal agent monitors signals such as executive moves, mergers, regulatory actions, and natural disasters, combines them with Moody’s company data, then prepares account briefs and draft outreach. | Sellers review the drafted outreach. The case defines an active user as someone using the agent at least twice a week. | Salesforce reports that active users recorded 20% more meetings than non-users, new-hire ramp time fell by about half, and adoption passed 61%. The user/non-user comparison is observational and does not establish that the agent caused the difference. (Salesforce Customer Stories, July 30, 2026.) |
| Equinox | Quin, an Agentforce-powered sales development agent, answers prospective members’ questions, follows up by email, and can book club tours using approved website information. | It routes leads into Salesforce and steps aside when a membership advisor takes over. | Salesforce reports more than 7,300 leads engaged, a 60% email open rate, and that 48% of meetings converted to memberships. These are case-study results, not independently verified benchmarks. (Salesforce Customer Stories, August 11, 2026.) |
| FedEx | Connected sales, shipping, and web data helps identify contracted accounts with no shipping activity, customers researching international shipping, and abandoned quotes; the system triggers tailored outreach and gives reps follow-up context. | Sales representatives receive context for customer follow-up. | Salesforce reports customer activation rose from 25% to 40% over five months and ROI exceeded 2,000%. Those figures are Salesforce’s case claims. (Salesforce Customer Stories, October 13, 2025.) |
| Unnamed industrial-materials distributor | McKinsey describes a system that combines internal and external data to score existing opportunities, uses generative AI to extract upcoming capital projects from public construction permits, and personalizes outreach. | The case describes AI-supported opportunity finding and outreach, not a fully autonomous sales organization. | McKinsey reports more than $1 billion in new opportunities, a 10% pipeline increase, and more than doubled click-through rates in the first fiscal year. The company is not named. (McKinsey & Company, March 27, 2025.) |
| Unnamed enterprise equipment manufacturer | A lead-generation engine cleans sales data, maintains a live aftermarket database, predicts maintenance schedules, and prioritizes cross-sell and upsell prospects. A virtual sales assistant sends personalized email and identifies hot responses. | The assistant passes promising responses to sellers. | McKinsey says the pipeline from new and existing customers grew by more than 20% of total revenue. The company is not named. (McKinsey & Company, March 27, 2025.) |
| Unnamed materials company | AI prioritizes opportunities; generative AI creates research materials and scripts, prepares meeting notes, and handles straightforward customer outreach. | More than 30 sellers provided input to the meeting-preparation tool, which drew on more than 20 data sources. | McKinsey says the tool was built in seven weeks and freed more than 10% of the target seller group’s time. The company is not named. (McKinsey & Company, March 27, 2025.) |
| Unnamed healthcare managed-care organization | Generative AI helps sales teams research and draft RFP responses from large document collections. | It supports the team’s response work; the described deployment does not establish that the AI submits final proposals on its own. | McKinsey describes the use case but gives no measured outcome for this specific organization. (McKinsey & Company, March 27, 2025.) |
What these deployments show about sales AI
AI handles specific tasks, not one universal sales job
The examples span predictive scoring, generative drafting and summarization, and agent-style systems that can take defined actions. A lead score is not the same as an agent sending follow-up, and a drafted account brief is not the same as an AI independently managing a deal. The label “AI in sales” covers different capabilities with different levels of authority.
Data and workflow integration are part of the product
These deployments use CRM records, email and web engagement, shipping activity, approved public content, company data, or other internal and external sources. AI output is only useful when the system can access relevant, sufficiently reliable information and deliver its recommendations where sellers already work. An agent with poor or outdated inputs can make a confident-sounding mistake; Moody’s Ben Holloway, senior director of global strategic partnerships and business development, cautioned, “Agents can make garbage sound truthful.”

Human handoffs define the useful boundary
Across the cases, automation is bounded by business rules and people remain involved in consequential customer interactions. A practical deployment can automate research or routine follow-up while reserving review, exception handling, and relationship decisions for employees. The right boundary depends on the cost of a wrong answer, the sensitivity of the data, and how much judgment the task requires.

Most figures here are vendor- or customer-reported case results, not independent evaluations. They describe different outcomes—such as email opens, meetings, pipeline, activation, time saved, and revenue—and do not share a common baseline or measurement method. A higher open rate does not by itself establish more revenue, and an observed difference between users and non-users does not prove causation.
Rank #2
For context on adoption rather than effectiveness, McKinsey’s 2024 Global B2B Pulse Survey found 19% of respondents already implementing generative AI in B2B sales and 23% in the process of doing so. The survey ran April 3–24, 2024, and included 3,942 B2B decision-makers across 34 sectors, eight major industries, and 13 countries. These are survey responses, not an audited count of deployments or evidence of sales impact.

What to check before adopting a sales AI workflow
- Choose one measurable task. Define whether the goal is faster lead prioritization, more relevant outreach, lower administrative effort, or a different outcome before selecting a system.
- Verify the data path. Identify which CRM, email, calendar, web, or operational records the tool can use, whether those records are current, and who controls access.
- Set its authority. Decide what the system may draft, update, send, or book, and where it must pause for human approval or escalation.
- Fit it into the seller’s workflow. A result that requires switching tools or duplicating CRM work can undermine adoption, even if the model’s output is useful.
- Measure against a baseline. Track a defined population and time period, and distinguish activity metrics from pipeline, conversion, revenue, and customer outcomes.
- Monitor exceptions and quality. Review incorrect records, irrelevant outreach, missed handoffs, and customer complaints, then adjust data sources and guardrails.
