If you built a small, single-purpose app with AI coding tools and have not had its code reviewed, a focused, lower-cost human audit can be a sensible first diagnostic—especially when your goal is to catch obvious problems before launch. It is not a guarantee that the app is production-ready, a substitute for every kind of security or architecture review, or necessarily a repair service.
When a cheaper review is a good first step
Start with a focused audit when the app is relatively small, recent, and limited in purpose, and you want an experienced person to look for concrete issues in the code before you commit more time or money to development. This can help you decide what needs attention next.
Be clear about the decision you need to make. “Find obvious launch problems” is a narrower brief than “Is this architecture worth building on?” The first may suit a focused diagnostic; the second calls for broader system judgment. An inexpensive report can identify findings without answering whether the underlying design should be retained.

When a low-cost audit is not enough
- You need to decide whether to keep building on the codebase. Ask for a review that explicitly evaluates the system as a whole, not only a list of discrete issues.
- The same bugs return after fixes. Repeated failures may call for investigation of underlying causes and system interactions, rather than another narrow pass.
- You cannot act on the findings. If you need someone to explain, implement, or verify fixes, confirm that work is included or separately available.
- The app handles payments or substantial personal data. These risks may justify a broader, accountable review of relevant application paths and controls.
These are reasons to ask for greater depth and responsibility, not proof that every low-priced service is inadequate. Fit depends on the scope and deliverables you actually need.

What example offers cost and include
The following are provider-posted examples checked on 2026-10-07, not endorsements or a comprehensive market survey. Prices and terms can change; confirm the current offer and scope directly before buying.
| Provider | Posted price | Described deliverable and timing |
|---|---|---|
| Afterbuild Labs | $49 | Asynchronous audit with a severity-ranked PDF, issue-level fix-cost estimates, and a stated 48-hour turnaround. The audit is diagnostic; paid fixes are separate. |
| ReactSquad | $489 | Security audit with a detailed report, a one-hour consulting call, and a stated three-day turnaround. |
| Fortivibe | $499 | Launch Audit describing a one-repository, human-reviewed report with prioritized findings and delivery in three to five business days. |
| The Yellow Labs | From $995 | Written report in five business days; the audit fee is credited against a first sprint, according to its service description. |
| SpringCode | Project-specific fixed quote | Requests a project description, then provides scope, timeline, and a fixed price; no public audit price was stated on the reviewed page. |
| Fixier | Project-scoped quote | Describes review of architecture, security, databases, APIs, and paths that may fail under load, with optional implementation of fixes; no fixed entry price was stated on the reviewed page. |
The offers differ in purpose and depth, so the prices are not a like-for-like ranking. In particular, the cheapest listed diagnostic is not automatically an answer to a whole-system architecture question.

How to choose the right scope
Before requesting a quote, write down the decision you need the review to support. Then compare providers on these points:
- Coverage: Which repositories, deployment configuration, and production paths are included? Ask whether the review covers authentication and authorization, database access controls, secrets, payment webhooks, third-party integrations, error paths, and dependency risks where relevant.
- Evidence and priority: Are findings tied to code evidence and ranked by severity? Ask to see a sample report so you can judge whether its recommendations will be usable.
- Deliverable: Is the output a written report, a consultation, copy-ready fix instructions, a pull request, or deployed fixes? Do not assume that finding a problem includes repairing it.
- Critical findings: What happens if the reviewer discovers an urgent issue? Ask how it will be communicated and whether remediation is included or separately priced.
- Follow-up: Is there time to ask questions after delivery? If you expect to need help interpreting findings, establish that before work begins.
- Access and confidentiality: Ask how repository access is granted, when it is removed, and what confidentiality or NDA terms apply. Verify the chosen provider’s own terms rather than relying on a general description.
- Schedule and price: Confirm the turnaround, what could change the quoted fee, and whether the price covers the entire agreed scope.
A useful request states the app’s purpose, its repository and deployment context, the sensitive data or payment flows it handles, and the decision you want to make. Ask the provider to return a written scope and deliverables before granting access.

Do audit services fix the problems?
Not necessarily. An audit may only identify and explain findings. Some offers add a consultation or cost estimates; others may offer implementation separately or credit the audit fee toward follow-on work. Get explicit confirmation about whether the provider will write fixes, open a pull request, deploy changes, and verify the result. Treat each as a distinct deliverable unless the agreement says otherwise.

A comparison page can help identify questions to ask, but its financial interest matters. Robust Devs states that it sells its own $4,999 Tech Audit and lists that as the most expensive option on its page. That is the publisher’s own seller disclosure, not independent evidence that its offer or any other offer is better value. Treat the page’s recommendation as commercially interested rather than as an independent market survey.

Likewise, examples of recurring failure areas are useful prompts for scoping a review, not a measured industry study or a prediction that a particular app has those flaws. Ask the reviewer to connect any finding to evidence in your own code.
