Dead of the Brain is scheduled to arrive on Steam on October 30, 2026, according to the Japanese Steam listing and an October 8 report from AUTOMATON WEST. There is a storefront discrepancy: the English Steam page still lists the release date as “To be announced.”
What is the Steam release?
This is a re-release of FairyTale’s 1992 horror adventure, originally made for NEC’s PC-98. FAKKU is listed as the Steam publisher. The game follows Cole after his scientist friend Dr. Cooger develops a serum that revives the dead—but without restoring who they were. The resulting zombie outbreak sets up a survival story.
The Japanese Steam listing and AUTOMATON WEST’s October 8, 2026 report give October 30, 2026 as the release date. The English Steam listing instead says “To be announced.” The available listings do not explain the difference, so October 30 is the announced date, but it is not displayed consistently across Steam locales.
What kind of game is it?
Steam describes a mix of point-and-click adventure, visual-novel scenes, and quick-time events. The store page presents the story as a horror adventure about surviving the outbreak, and lists an FM soundtrack. It also lists an optional soundtrack DLC. These are features described by the store listing, not the result of independent gameplay testing.

What should players expect from the re-release?
The Steam description says the re-release largely preserves the original interface and mechanics, including conventions that may feel dated today. It cautions that the old UI and gameplay may seem clunky by modern standards. Optional hover hints and clickable-area aids are listed for players who want help identifying interactive parts of the screen.
The content notice lists violence, death, and non-sexual nudity. The English Steam listing includes English interface text and subtitles. It does not indicate full voice audio. The Japanese listing additionally shows Japanese and Simplified Chinese interface and subtitle support.
