To delete your own WhatsApp Status on an Android phone, open WhatsApp, open My status, display the update you want to remove, tap More options (the three vertical dots), then choose Delete and confirm with Delete again. WhatsApp handles status removal per update, so repeat the process for every status you want to take down.
If you do not need immediate removal, a Status update disappears from view after 24 hours. If you are trying to remove someone else’s update, use Hide instead; hiding affects what you see and does not delete that person’s status.
Delete your WhatsApp Status on Android
The official WhatsApp Help Center path is short, but the order matters because the delete command appears only after you open the specific status update.
- Open WhatsApp on your Android phone.
- Go to My status. This is the area containing the status updates you posted.
- Display the update you want to remove. If you posted more than one update, open the particular photo, video, text or other status item that should come down.
- While that update is displayed, tap More options, shown as the three vertical dots.
- Tap Delete.
- When WhatsApp asks you to confirm, tap Delete again.
After confirmation, that individual update is the one you have requested to remove. The instructions are for Android and use the labels “My status,” “More options” and “Delete.” The Help Center search result does not show a publication year for these instructions.

Make sure you are deleting your own update
WhatsApp uses similar status language for your updates and for updates posted by contacts, but the available action is different.
Your own status
Use My status and the delete path above when you created the update. Deleting removes your update rather than changing a contact’s status.
A contact’s status
If the item belongs to another person, WhatsApp provides Hide, not a delete command for you. Hiding moves that person’s update to the Hidden section. It does not delete the contact’s status, remove your own status, or change whether that contact can see your status.

Deleting several statuses
WhatsApp says, “You can’t delete multiple statuses at once.” Each status update is a separate item, even when several were posted during the same session.
- Open My status.
- Display the first update to remove.
- Tap the three-dot More options menu.
- Choose Delete, then confirm with Delete.
- Repeat for the next update until only the statuses you want to keep remain.
This one-at-a-time rule means a group of updates requires a separate confirmation for each item. There is no bulk-select or “delete all” action in the Help Center’s Android instructions.
Delete now or let the status expire?
A Status update is not permanent. WhatsApp says status updates disappear from view after 24 hours (the Help Center result does not display a year for this figure).

Waiting is not the same as deleting. If you need to take your own update down before the 24-hour period ends, follow the delete steps rather than relying on expiry.

What people may see after you delete
WhatsApp’s deletion instructions include an important connection caveat: a status may remain visible to a contact who is experiencing connection problems. In other words, deleting the update in your app does not guarantee that every viewer’s device immediately reflects the change when that device cannot connect normally.
If someone tells you they can still see the update, first check that you deleted the correct item under My status. Then allow for the connection issue described by WhatsApp. The Help Center does not provide a separate Android setting that forces a viewer’s offline or poorly connected device to refresh instantly.
Statuses that mention people
WhatsApp also warns that a deleted status update containing mentions might not be seen by the people who were mentioned. Deletion can therefore affect whether a mentioned person ever receives or views that update. This is separate from the connection caveat: one concerns the status no longer being available, while the other concerns whether mentioned people get to see it.
If a mention was important, deleting the status means you should not assume the mentioned contacts have seen it. If you need to communicate the same information, create a new update or contact them through another message after deciding what should remain visible.

If WhatsApp does not show the expected command
You cannot find “My status”
Check that you are looking at the area for updates you posted, not the list of other contacts’ updates. The Android instructions specifically begin from My status. Without opening your own update, you will not reach the relevant delete menu.
You opened the update but cannot find Delete
Make sure the update is currently displayed and tap More options, represented by three vertical dots. The delete command is in that menu, followed by a second Delete tap to confirm.
You have more than one update
Do not look for a bulk action. WhatsApp does not allow multiple statuses to be deleted at once, so open and remove each update separately.
You are trying to remove someone else’s update
Delete applies to your own status. For another person’s status, choose Hide if you want it moved out of your main status view. Hiding will not alter that person’s post or your ability to publish your own status.

A contact still reports seeing it
Verify that the correct update was deleted, then consider the Help Center warning about the contact’s connection. A viewer with connection problems may continue to see a status for a time even after you have deleted it.
There is no edit command
WhatsApp’s Help Center states: “You can’t edit statuses, but you can delete and share a new update.” If the published item contains a spelling mistake, the wrong image, an unintended audience or any other error, the supported correction pattern is to delete that status and publish a replacement. Editing the existing item is not presented as an available operation.
For a replacement, finish the delete process first. Then share a new status containing only the material you intend to publish. If the original contained mentions, remember that deleting it may mean the mentioned people do not see it.

A practical decision checklist
- Is it your update? Start from My status.
- Do you need it gone before 24 hours? Open it, use More options, and confirm Delete.
- Are there several updates? Delete them individually; bulk deletion is unavailable.
- Is it someone else’s update? Use Hide, understanding that this does not delete the post.
- Could a viewer be offline or poorly connected? WhatsApp says that connection problems can leave a deleted update visible to that contact temporarily.
- Did the status contain mentions? Do not assume the mentioned people saw it after deletion.
The shortest path to remember
WhatsApp → My status → open the update → More options (three dots) → Delete → Delete. Repeat that path for every update you want to remove. If you take no action, WhatsApp says the update disappears from view after 24 hours; if you meant another person’s status, choose Hide instead of trying to delete it.
