A WhatsApp guest call link usually fails for one of five reasons: it has been unused for 30 days and expired, WhatsApp revoked it for privacy or security, the creator blocked or removed the guest, the guest is waiting for host approval, or guest/web calling has not reached that account yet. The fix depends on the message shown and on whether you are the guest or the person who created the link.
Use the symptom table first, then follow the matching procedure. A link creator can issue a replacement or change a participant’s status; a guest cannot override those controls. Guests without a WhatsApp account can still join from a computer browser when the feature is available and the creator admits them.
Identify the failure before changing anything
Do not assume that every unsuccessful click means the URL is bad. WhatsApp uses different states for expiration, access restrictions, host approval and feature availability. Match the exact screen or message to the row below.

The official material does not publish independent failure rates, exact browser-version requirements, or a complete regional availability list. Treat a missing control as a rollout or compatibility question rather than proof that the invitation is invalid.

Fix an expired or revoked call link
Why an apparently good URL stops working
The WhatsApp Help Center states: “Links expire if they’ve been unused for 30 days.” The 30-day rule is based on non-use, so an invitation that has sat in an old message or calendar entry can stop working even if the text of the URL has not changed. WhatsApp also says it can revoke links for privacy and security reasons. A revoked link can therefore fail before a guest has reached any participant or approval screen.
Create a replacement from the Calls tab
- On the WhatsApp account that owns the invitation, open the Calls tab.
- Select New call link.
- Choose Voice or Video.
- Copy the newly generated URL or use the share option to send it directly to the intended guests.
Each new link is different and secure. Send the complete replacement rather than asking guests to keep retrying the old address. If several people received the original, tell everyone which message contains the current link so that an expired copy is not reused.
What the guest can and cannot do
A guest cannot refresh, renew, or recreate a call link. Only a WhatsApp account holder can create one. If you are the invitee and the page reports expiration or an invalid invitation, the practical fix is to contact the person who sent it and request a new link.

Resolve “Unable to connect” after a block or removal
Understand the creator’s access control
WhatsApp says contacts blocked by the call-link creator cannot join using the link. It also documents that a person removed or blocked during a call sees Unable to connect when trying to rejoin and cannot return through that invitation. This is an intentional access decision, not a browser error that the guest can bypass.
Steps for the guest
- Record the exact wording, especially whether it says Unable to connect rather than waiting for approval or expiration.
- Contact the creator through another channel and ask whether your account or number was removed or blocked.
- If the creator confirms a mistake, ask them to correct the status or create a fresh invitation for a permitted participant.
- Open the replacement link only after the creator confirms that the access change is complete.
Do not ask another guest to forward a different person’s approval or try to create a second link: the creator’s block applies to the participant, and guests do not have the authority to alter it.
Steps for the creator
Check the participant identity before changing access. If the person should be admitted, remove the unintended block or removal according to the controls shown in your call, then send a new invitation if the original session has already ended. If the person should not join, leave the restriction in place; an inability to reconnect is the expected result.

Get past the approval waiting room
What approval-enabled links do
When Require approval to join is enabled, a link can be valid while the guest remains outside the call. Entrants are placed in a waiting room until the creator makes a decision. Only the creator sees the approval requests and can allow, deny, or approve all of them.
If you are the guest
- Leave the waiting page open rather than repeatedly opening new copies of the link.
- Tell the creator that your request is waiting and provide the name you entered, particularly if several people are queued.
- Wait for an allow decision. A waiting-room state is not evidence that the URL has expired.
- If you were denied and believe it was accidental, rejoin the waiting room using the same invitation; WhatsApp says a denied guest can request entry again.
If you are the creator
Open the approval requests shown for the call and choose the individual action or the option to approve all. Verify names before admitting people. If a guest continues to see the waiting room after you have approved them, have them reload the link once and then generate a replacement if the session itself has become stale.

What Meta’s guest-calling announcement promises
In its October 14, 2026 announcement, Meta said: “With guest calling, you can now invite anyone to join a WhatsApp call — even if they don’t have a WhatsApp account.” The documented flow is browser-based: the guest opens the call link on a computer, types a name, and joins a one-to-one or group call with up to 32 people after the host admits them.

Guest procedure
- Use a computer and open the invitation in a current web browser.
- Enter the name that should appear to the host when the page requests it.
- Submit the request and remain on the page while the host reviews it.
- Wait for admission if the link requires approval. You are not in the call merely because the URL opened successfully.
Guest access is deliberately limited. A guest cannot create a call link, see other participants’ phone numbers, send WhatsApp messages, or add people directly to the call. Those restrictions do not indicate that the invitation is broken.
If the browser never offers the guest flow
Meta’s July 28, 2026 update describes WhatsApp Web calling directly in a browser without an app download and says approval-enabled links use a waiting room. The update also says these capabilities are rolling out gradually. Update the WhatsApp app used by the host, retry from a current computer browser, and ask the host to confirm that guest or web calling is enabled on that account. Official announcements reviewed for this guide do not state a fixed browser-version threshold or guarantee availability in every country.

When the feature itself has not rolled out
Recognize a rollout issue
A valid link can still lack the guest interface when the account has not received the gradual rollout. Typical clues are a normal-looking invitation with no name-entry screen, no browser call option, or an approval workflow that the host cannot find. These clues distinguish availability from an expired URL: creating another link may not help until the account receives the capability.

Use the supported checks
- Update WhatsApp on the account that created the link.
- Retry the invitation in a current computer browser rather than relying on an outdated embedded view.
- Ask the host to check whether guest calling and approval controls appear in the Calls interface.
- If the feature is still absent, use another call method temporarily and try again after the account’s rollout changes.
Because no official page supplies exact regional or browser compatibility tables, do not promise a particular date for availability. The host’s account is the decisive check.

Use this sequence before sending a replacement to reduce avoidable confusion between an old URL and a current one.
- Confirm that you are signed in to a WhatsApp account; guests cannot create links.
- Open Calls and select New call link.
- Choose Voice or Video according to the meeting’s purpose.
- Copy or share the newly generated URL directly.
- Tell invitees whether Require approval to join is enabled, so they expect a waiting room.
- Keep the Calls screen available during the meeting to handle approval requests.
- If someone reports Unable to connect, check whether that participant was removed or blocked instead of sending repeated copies of the same link.
If the invitation has been unused for close to the stated 30-day limit, create it again immediately before the meeting. This is a scheduling precaution based on WhatsApp’s non-use expiry rule, not a separate guarantee about the exact moment a link will be revoked.
Decision tree for a failed invitation
- Does the page explicitly say expired or invalid? Have the account holder create a new link from Calls > New call link, select Voice or Video, and resend it.
- Does it say Unable to connect? Ask the creator whether you were removed or blocked. Only that creator can change the status or invite a permitted participant.
- Are you in a waiting room? Keep the page open and ask the creator to approve you. A denial can be followed by another waiting-room request.
- Do you lack a WhatsApp account? Open the link in a computer browser, enter your name, and wait for admission. Guest calls support one-to-one and group calls of up to 32 people under Meta’s October 14, 2026 announcement.
- Is there no guest or web-call interface? Update WhatsApp, retry in a current browser, and have the host verify that the gradual rollout reached the account.
- Does none of these descriptions fit? Have the account holder generate one more fresh link and confirm the host account’s guest-calling availability before troubleshooting individual devices further.
Limits that explain common misunderstandings

How to prevent the next link failure
- Create a fresh link near the scheduled call instead of relying on an invitation that has remained unused for weeks.
- Label the newest URL clearly when sending it to a group so older copies are not mistaken for the current invitation.
- Tell guests whether approval is required and who will admit them.
- Ask accountless invitees to prepare a computer browser, since the documented guest flow is browser-based.
- Keep the creator available during the call to handle waiting-room requests and correct an accidental block or removal.
- Update the host’s WhatsApp installation before an important meeting and verify that the guest/web-calling controls are visible.
In short, replace an old or revoked link, have the creator resolve a block, wait for host approval when required, and use a computer browser for accountless guests. If those steps do not match what appears on screen, the remaining explanation is usually gradual feature availability rather than a URL that can be repaired by the guest.
