To make a WhatsApp conversation fill your Galaxy Tab’s display, turn off WhatsApp’s Side-by-side view: open Settings > Chats > Chat settings and switch the option off. This changes WhatsApp’s two-pane chat layout; if the whole app is instead in a floating or split-screen window, expand the app window using Samsung’s multitasking controls.
Turn off WhatsApp’s two-pane chat layout
This setting is for the layout where WhatsApp shows the chat list and an open conversation together. Samsung Customer Support gave this route in a Samsung Members response on August 26, 2023; labels may differ in newer app versions.
- Open WhatsApp on your Galaxy Tab.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Chats, then Chat settings.
- Turn Side-by-side view off.
- Open a conversation and check that it now uses the full width of the display.
If you cannot find the option, search WhatsApp’s settings for “Side-by-side view” and check that WhatsApp is updated. The menu route is based on Samsung’s 2023 support-community response, so it is not a guarantee that every current version uses identical labels. Samsung Members support thread

When the whole WhatsApp app is in a small window
If WhatsApp itself appears in a floating pop-up or shares the screen with another app, changing its internal chat layout will not expand the app window. Open the window’s controls and choose the expand or maximize option. Samsung says the pop-up view’s Expand window control returns an app to its regular full-screen view. Choose the layout that suits how you use WhatsApp
Side-by-side view is a tablet-style layout, not necessarily a display problem: it keeps the chat list visible while you read a conversation, which can make switching chats quicker. Turning it off gives one conversation the full display width instead. Samsung’s large-screen design guidance explains that multi-pane layouts can show more information together, while simply stretching phone-style content across a large screen can be harder to read or leave space unused. Samsung’s tablet layout categories use screen-width thresholds such as 840 dp to classify available space. These are developer design categories, not settings you need to adjust to change WhatsApp’s view. Samsung layout guidance
