A Pokémon Trading Card Game Elite Trainer Box (ETB) combines booster packs with the accessories needed to open, organize and play a specific expansion. Most ETBs include 65 card sleeves, Energy cards, a player’s guide, dice, condition markers, a storage box with dividers and a digital code card. The booster-pack count, Energy quantity, promo cards and special accessories depend on the exact expansion and edition, so the product’s contents list matters more than the ETB name alone.
What an Elite Trainer Box is
An ETB is an expansion-specific Pokémon TCG product rather than a permanently standardized kit. A box made for one set can have a different pack count or bonus item from a box released for another set. Pokémon Center editions can also add exclusive promos or change the accessory mix compared with standard retail editions.
The practical purpose is threefold: packs provide cards from the named expansion, sleeves protect a deck or newly opened cards, and the remaining accessories support play and storage. The box is therefore useful to both collectors and players, but its value depends on which edition and expansion you are buying.
Typical contents at a glance
Across the official product lists for several generations, these components appear repeatedly:
#1 Best Overall
- The Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Order Elite Trainer Box includes 9 Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Order booster packs, 1 full-art foil promo card featuring Tyrunt, and 65 card sleeves.
- This also comes with 40 Pokémon TCG Energy cards, a player’s guide to the Mega Evolution—Perfect Order expansion, and 6 damage-counter dice.
- You will also receive a competition-legal coin-flip die, a plastic coin, and a collector’s box to hold everything, with 6 dividers to keep it organized.
- And you will also find a code card for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live.
- Booster packs: The number is not fixed. The documented examples range from eight to eleven.
- Card sleeves: The cited examples contain 65 sleeves, usually decorated with the expansion or a featured Pokémon.
- Energy cards: Examples contain either 45 or 40 Energy cards, depending on the edition.
- Player’s guide: A guide for the corresponding expansion is included.
- Dice: The examples include six damage-counter dice and one coin-flip die. The exact designs can differ.
- Condition markers: Two markers are common, although their material and design can vary.
- Storage box and dividers: The collector’s box is intended to hold cards, with dividers for sorting.
- Digital code card: Recent products specify Pokémon TCG Live. Older products may refer to Pokémon TCG Online, or to both Online and Live.
These are recurring elements, not a guarantee for every historical or special-edition ETB. Read the exact contents panel for the set and edition on the box you plan to purchase.
What each item is for
Booster packs
Booster packs are the opening component of an ETB. They contain randomized cards from the named expansion, so the set printed on the ETB determines which card pool you are opening. Pack quantity is one of the clearest differences between releases: eight, nine, ten and eleven packs are all documented in official listings.
Do not treat a higher number as the universal definition of an ETB. Eleven packs in the documented examples belong to the 2026 Mega Evolution—Chaos Rising Pokémon Center ETB, not automatically to every Chaos Rising or every standard ETB.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCard sleeves
The cited products include 65 sleeves. That is enough for a 60-card deck with a small number of spares, and it also lets collectors protect selected pulls. Sleeves generally carry expansion artwork or a featured Pokémon, making them a design item as well as a practical accessory.
Because the sleeve count is repeatedly listed as 65 in the examples, it is a reliable expectation for the products covered here, but artwork is edition-specific. A Pokémon Center release may use a design that is not offered in the standard box.
Rank #2
- Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Order Elite Trainer Box includes:
- 9 Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Order Booster Packs, 1 Full Art Foil Promotional Card with Tyrunt
- 65 card cases, 40 Pokémon TCG Energy cards, Mega Evolution—a player guide for the perfect order expansion
- 6 damage counters, 1 competition-legal change mold, 1 plastic coin
- A collector's box to keep everything organised, with 6 dividers to keep it organized, a code card for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live
Energy cards
Energy cards are supplied for deck building and play. The official examples show two quantities: 45 Energy cards in several products and 40 in the 2026 Chaos Rising Pokémon Center edition. That difference is why a listing that simply says “Energy cards included” is incomplete; check the number for the exact box.
Player’s guide
The player’s guide corresponds to the expansion inside the box. It is useful for orienting yourself to the set’s card pool and themes before sorting the packs. It is not a universal rulebook or a substitute for the current game rules; its role is to document the associated expansion.

Typical contents include six damage-counter dice, a die used for coin-flip randomization and two condition markers. Designs and materials can change, and special editions may add another marker or a coin. The 2023 Crown Zenith list, for example, includes an additional VSTAR marker, while the 2026 Chaos Rising Pokémon Center list names a plastic coin.
These accessories are functional during play. The damage-counter dice track accumulated damage, the coin-flip die resolves effects that call for a flip, and condition markers identify status conditions. Their inclusion is one reason an ETB can serve as a first purchase for someone assembling a physical play kit.
Collector’s box and dividers
The outer box is designed for card storage rather than disposal after opening. Dividers separate cards by set, type, rarity or deck. Divider counts are not uniform: the Prismatic Evolutions standard ETB lists four, while the Chaos Rising Pokémon Center ETB lists six. Older product lists cited for Sun & Moon and Crown Zenith identify the storage box and dividers without stating the same newer counts.
Rank #3
- The Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—White Flare Elite Trainer Box includes 9 Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—White Flare booster packs and 1 full-art foil promo card featuring Tornadus.
- This also comes with 65 card sleeves, 45 Pokémon TCG Energy cards, and a player’s guide to the Scarlet & Violet--White Flare expansion.
- You will also receive 6 damage-counter dice, 1 competition-legal coin-flip die, and 2 plastic condition markers.
- You will also get a collector’s box to hold everything, with 4 dividers to keep it organized and a code card for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live.
Digital code card
A code card can unlock an associated item in the digital Pokémon TCG platform named on that product’s listing. Current examples specify Pokémon TCG Live. Older packaging may name Pokémon TCG Online or mention both services, so do not assume that every code card has the same destination or current functionality. Keep the wording tied to the edition you own.

Documented contents by expansion and edition
The following comparison shows why checking the exact product page is essential. Every row describes the named product only; it is not a prediction for all ETBs in that era.
| Product | Booster packs | Promo card(s) | Energy cards | Notable listed details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sun & Moon ETB (2017) | 8 | None listed | 45 | 65 sleeves, player’s guide, dice, condition markers, collector’s box and dividers; code wording follows the older product listing |
| Crown Zenith ETB (2023) | 10 | Lucario VSTAR | 45 | 65 sleeves, player’s guide, dice, an additional VSTAR marker, collector’s box and dividers |
| Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions ETB (launched January 17, 2025) | 9 | 1 Eevee full-art promo | 45 | 65 sleeves, player’s guide, dice, two plastic condition markers, collector’s box with 4 dividers and a code card |
| Mega Evolution—Chaos Rising Pokémon Center ETB (launched May 22, 2026) | 11 | 2 Fennekin promos: one with a Pokémon Center logo and one without | 40 | 65 sleeves, player’s guide, dice, plastic coin, collector’s box with 6 dividers and a Pokémon TCG Live code card |
The table also illustrates two common assumptions that are unsafe: a promo card is not guaranteed, and the largest pack count belongs to a specifically identified Pokémon Center edition.
Why the expansion and edition matter
Standard versus Pokémon Center editions
“Pokémon Center ETB” identifies a particular edition, not merely a retailer location. The Chaos Rising example has two Fennekin promo cards, including one carrying a Pokémon Center logo, six dividers and 40 Energy cards. Those details should not be applied to a standard Chaos Rising box unless its own contents list says so.
Promos are optional additions
Promotional cards vary by release. Prismatic Evolutions lists one Eevee full-art promo, Crown Zenith lists a Lucario VSTAR promo, and Chaos Rising Pokémon Center lists two Fennekin promos. The 2017 Sun & Moon contents list does not list a promo card. If a promo is important to your purchase, verify its name, number and edition-specific version before paying a premium.

Accessories can change without changing the ETB name
Markers, coins, dividers and code-card descriptions can change between releases. A product may replace two plastic condition markers with a different design, add a VSTAR marker or include a plastic coin. These are concrete edition differences, not manufacturing details you can safely infer from a stock photograph.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check an ETB before buying
- Identify the complete product name. Record the expansion, release line and whether the box is standard or Pokémon Center.
- Find the numbered contents list. Use the text for that exact edition rather than a generic ETB description or an image of another set.
- Verify the booster-pack count. Eight, nine, ten and eleven are all documented, so do not substitute an assumed “usual” number.
- Check every bonus item. Confirm the promo card name and quantity, Energy count, marker type, coin, divider count and sleeve design.
- Read the code-card wording. Determine whether the package identifies Pokémon TCG Live, Pokémon TCG Online or both.
- Match the sealed product to the listing. If the seller’s title, photograph and contents text describe different editions, ask for clarification before ordering.
Using the included accessories for play
The dice supplied in an ETB are not merely decorative. The Play! Pokémon Tournament Rules Handbook states, “Dice can be obtained from Pokémon TCG Elite Trainer Boxes.” The same handbook permits any six-sided die as a randomizer when it is a cube with each side having the same surface area. That means an ETB’s coin-flip die can be useful for organized play, subject to the event’s rules and the die’s condition.
Use the damage-counter dice and condition markers to keep the game state visible, and use the sleeves to protect a legal deck. Before an event, check that your sleeves are uniform and that no card backs or markings reveal card identities; the ETB provides sleeves, but tournament legality still depends on the event rules and the condition of your cards and accessories.
What an ETB does not promise
- It does not promise a particular rare card from the booster packs.
- It does not guarantee a promo card; at least one documented ETB list has none.
- It does not guarantee the same number of packs or Energy cards as another expansion.
- It does not guarantee that an older digital code card works in the current online service.
- It does not make a Pokémon Center contents list applicable to a standard retail edition.
These limits are especially important when comparing prices. A higher price can reflect a specific promo, exclusive sleeves or a Pokémon Center edition rather than simply more playable material.

Choosing between two ETBs
Compare the boxes in this order:
- Expansion and edition: Decide which card set and product version you actually want.
- Pack count: Count the sealed boosters, carrying the edition label with the number.
- Promo cards: Check whether a promo is included and whether there are one or two versions.
- Sleeves: Confirm the 65-sleeve count and choose the artwork you prefer.
- Energy quantity: Note whether the listing specifies 40 or 45.
- Special accessories: Look for VSTAR markers, plastic coins or other additions.
- Storage: Compare the stated divider count if organization is important.
- Digital code: Confirm which service the code card names.
This checklist separates genuine contents differences from marketing photos that may show accessories not included in that edition.
Bottom line
A Pokémon TCG Elite Trainer Box usually contains booster packs, 65 sleeves, Energy cards, a player’s guide, dice, condition markers, storage dividers and a digital code card. The exact pack total, Energy quantity, promo cards and special accessories are edition-specific: the documented products run from eight to eleven packs, show 40 or 45 Energy cards, and range from no listed promo to two exclusive promos. Treat the exact expansion and edition contents list as the final authority before buying.
