For PlayStation Plus streaming on a PC, Sony’s US support page lists broadband of at least 5 Mbps, recommends a wired connection, and requires an active PlayStation Plus membership. Sony identifies Premium as the tier for PC streaming. You also need a compatible Windows PC, an adult PlayStation account, and a controller; the PC app is for eligible catalog games, not direct streaming of PS5 games to a PC.
There is a different route if you own a PS4 or PS5: Remote Play sends a game from your console to a Windows PC or Mac. It is not the same as streaming from the PlayStation Plus catalog, and it requires the console. Which route fits depends on the game library you want and whether you have a PlayStation console.
Choose the right kind of PlayStation streaming
“Streaming PlayStation games on PC” can mean two different services. One plays eligible games from Sony’s subscription catalog through the PlayStation Plus PC app. The other, PS Remote Play, displays and controls a game running on your own console. They have different game libraries, hardware needs, and controller details.

What the PC app does—and does not do
Sony’s US membership information describes PC streaming for a selection of PS4 games in the Game Catalog and select Classics Catalog titles for Premium members. Catalog availability changes, and some PS4 games may not be streamable. The app’s catalog should not be treated as a way to stream PS5 games directly to a PC: Sony describes PS5 cloud streaming for PS5 consoles and PlayStation Portal, while Remote Play can connect a PC to a PS5 that the user owns.
When Remote Play is the better fit
Choose Remote Play if the game you want is on your own console, rather than in the PC app’s eligible catalog. Sony describes Remote Play as controlling a PS5 or PS4 from a Windows PC or Mac over a high-speed network. Sony has also distinguished this from cloud streaming: the game is downloaded to the PS5 before it is played remotely. Remote Play therefore depends on your console and its game library; it does not give you access to Sony’s PC app catalog.
Internet speed and connection quality
For the PlayStation Plus PC app, Sony’s US support page states: “Broadband with a minimum speed of 5 Mbps — a wired connection is recommended.” That is the published minimum, not a promise of a particular image quality or consistently responsive play. A speed test above 5 Mbps cannot by itself guarantee a good session: the measured connection can vary, and the PC app’s cited requirements do not promise a specific resolution or performance level.

- If practical, connect the PC to the router with Ethernet, following Sony’s recommendation for a wired connection.
- If you use Wi-Fi, check the connection where the PC will actually be used; a result from another room or device may not represent the PC’s connection.
- Close unnecessary network-heavy activity while playing if the stream is unstable, then check whether the connection improves.
- Use Sony’s 5 Mbps figure as the PC app’s stated minimum, not as a target that guarantees trouble-free streaming.
Do not apply PS5 cloud-streaming figures to the PC app
Sony publishes a separate set of speed figures for cloud streaming on PS5 consoles and PlayStation Portal. Its US cloud-streaming page says 5 Mbps upload and download are needed to establish a session, and recommends the following speeds by resolution:
| PS5 or Portal cloud-streaming resolution | Sony’s recommended speed |
|---|---|
| 720p | 13 Mbps |
| 1080p | 23 Mbps |
| 1440p | 38 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) | 52 Mbps |
These are recommendations for the PS5/Portal cloud-streaming service, not PC app specifications and not Remote Play requirements. Do not use them to infer that the PC app streams at those resolutions or requires those bandwidth levels.
Subscription, account, and regional availability
Sony’s US support page requires an active PlayStation Plus membership and an adult PlayStation account for the PC app. Sony’s membership information identifies PlayStation Plus Premium as the tier that includes PC streaming. A lower tier should not be assumed to include it. Plan names, prices, benefits, and availability can change, and US terms should not be applied automatically to another country; verify the current membership page for your region before paying.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
The app’s access to games is also limited by the catalog and the titles Sony makes streamable. A subscription does not mean every PlayStation game is available on PC. Look up the individual title in the current catalog and confirm its streaming availability. Sony notes that certain PS4 games may not be streamable, and catalog titles can change.
PC and controller requirements for the app
Sony’s US PC support page currently lists the following system requirements. Its operating-system list is Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, which may not reflect what a current app installer supports. Check Sony’s live download page before installing, particularly if your PC runs a newer version of Windows; do not assume an old listed requirement confirms present-day compatibility.
| Requirement | Minimum listed | Recommended listed |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 | Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3 at 2.0 GHz | Intel Core i3 at 3.5 GHz, AMD A10 at 3.8 GHz, or faster |
| Available storage | 300 MB | 300 MB or more |
| Memory | 2 GB RAM | 2 GB RAM or more |
| Other | Sound card and USB port | Sound card and USB port |
These are the figures on Sony’s support page; the page does not state a publication date for them. They describe Sony’s listed requirements, not independent testing or a performance guarantee. Because the operating-system list looks dated, use the live app download information to make the final compatibility decision.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
Which controller should you use?
A controller is required for the PlayStation Plus PC app. Sony specifically names the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller as compatible. Its support page says some third-party PC-compatible controllers using XInput work, but Sony does not guarantee full compatibility. That caveat matters if you plan to use a controller other than the named model: PC compatibility in general does not establish that every control or feature will work in this service.
For Remote Play, Sony’s PC/Mac information lists DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DUALSHOCK 4 and specifies a USB cable for connecting the controller to the computer. Do not read that Remote Play controller list as proof that those controllers have identical support in the PlayStation Plus PC app; the app’s support page explicitly names DUALSHOCK 4 and treats other PC controllers more cautiously.

Set up PlayStation Plus streaming on a PC
- Confirm that the service fits. Check that the game is currently streamable in the PlayStation Plus catalog and that Premium PC streaming is available under the membership terms for your region.
- Check your PC and connection. Compare the computer with Sony’s listed specifications, verify the current Windows compatibility on Sony’s app download page, and make sure the PC has broadband. Sony’s US support page lists 5 Mbps minimum and recommends wired internet.
- Install Sony’s PlayStation Plus PC app. Use the official PlayStation download page rather than relying on an old installer or outdated OS listing.
- Sign in with an adult PlayStation account. The account needs an active PlayStation Plus membership with Premium for PC streaming.
- Connect a compatible controller and start an eligible stream. DUALSHOCK 4 is the controller Sony explicitly identifies for the PC app. If using another XInput controller, be aware that full compatibility is not guaranteed.
If a game does not appear or will not stream, first confirm the membership tier, the title’s current catalog status, and whether the title is marked as streamable. If the app will not install, check Sony’s current download requirements rather than relying solely on the support page’s Windows 8.1/10 list.

Limits that can affect a session
Audio, headsets, and voice chat
In the PC app, audio plays through the computer’s speakers or headphones. Sony says a headset plugged into the controller does not route audio for this app. Party Chat is not currently supported in the PC app, so do not plan on using its Party Chat function for a session.
DLC and local multiplayer
Game add-ons and DLC cannot be used while streaming a PlayStation Plus catalog game through the PC app. Compatible games may support local multiplayer, with play limited to two players on PC. These limits apply to the PC app; they should not be assumed to describe every game played through Remote Play on a console.
What to check before you subscribe or troubleshoot
- You want a catalog game without a console: Check that it is currently streamable on PC and that Premium streaming is offered in your region.
- You want to play a game you own on PS4 or PS5: Check Remote Play requirements and console setup; it streams from your console rather than the PC app’s cloud catalog.
- You expect to play PS5 games directly on the PC: The cited PC app information does not establish that capability. Sony’s cited PS5 cloud-streaming information covers PS5 and PlayStation Portal, not PC.
- Your connection meets 5 Mbps but play is poor: The threshold is a minimum service requirement, not a quality guarantee. Try Sony’s recommended wired connection and check for variation on the PC’s actual network.
- Your controller is not DUALSHOCK 4: Verify its behavior with the PC app; Sony’s qualified XInput statement is not a full-compatibility guarantee.
- Your PC’s Windows version is newer than those listed: Confirm support on the current download page before installing; the requirements page may not reflect current app compatibility.
