To play Diablo II in VR, use Diablo II: Resurrected on a Windows PC with the community-made D2R VR mod, a PC-compatible VR headset with motion controllers, and its required software chain: D2RLoader, ReShade with Generic Depth, and BodyWalk with FlatVR and Game Link. The project is intended for offline single-player only. Blizzard’s published PC specifications describe the flat game, not a guaranteed VR frame rate, so meeting the minimum does not prove that VR will run smoothly.
Which version of Diablo II works in VR?
The documented VR route targets Diablo II: Resurrected (D2R) for Windows PC. It is not a standalone VR edition, and it is not a VR conversion of the original 2000 Diablo II. You must own and install the Windows PC version of Resurrected before adding the mod.
The project’s own README identifies the software as unofficial and states: “This project is not made, endorsed or supported by Blizzard Entertainment.” Treat compatibility as community-maintained and version-sensitive rather than as an official game feature. The current README is the authority for supported files and installation changes: D2R VR project README.
PC requirements: Blizzard’s baseline versus VR reality
Blizzard publishes the following Windows requirements for Diablo II: Resurrected. They are requirements for the standard game, not a measured specification for D2R VR. The reviewed documentation provides no VR benchmark, minimum headset refresh rate, or tested GPU tier for the mod.

These figures come from Blizzard’s Diablo II: Resurrected launch guide. Blizzard Support notes that requirements can change; check its current system-requirements page before installing after a major game update.
Why the minimum specification is not a VR guarantee
VR renders a view for both eyes and must maintain a stable headset refresh cycle to avoid judder or discomfort. The published D2R requirements do not account for the VR mod, ReShade depth processing, headset resolution, controller tracking, or the overhead of BodyWalk and FlatVR. A computer that launches the flat game at its minimum specification may therefore provide an unreliable VR experience. No source in the reviewed documentation establishes a universal “VR-ready” GPU or processor target.
Storage and connectivity
Reserve at least the game’s stated 30 GB of storage, plus working room for the launcher, mod files, shader caches, and updates. Resurrected is a digital PC product. Broadband is needed to download it, and Blizzard requires periodic internet access for updates and authentication even though the mod’s intended play mode is offline single-player.
VR headset and controller requirements
D2R VR requires a PC VR headset. The documentation does not identify a required make, model, or complete compatibility list, so no particular headset can be called officially tested from these sources. Choose hardware that can connect to your Windows PC and expose tracked headset and hand-controller data to the BodyWalk/FlatVR integration.

| What to check | Why it matters | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| PC VR support | The game is running on Windows, with the headset connected to that computer rather than operating as a standalone-only device. | PC VR headset required; model not stated. |
| Motion controllers | The mod can use headset and hand information, especially in its first-person mode. | Controller input is part of the documented integration; a controller model list is not stated. |
| Connection method | Wired or wireless PC links can differ in latency, bandwidth, and setup complexity. | The project does not prescribe one connection type. |
| Comfort and fit | Long action-RPG sessions make weight distribution, lens adjustment, and fit practical concerns. | No comparative comfort test is provided. |
| Refresh rate and resolution | Your PC must render the game consistently at the headset’s selected mode. | No universal refresh-rate or resolution target is published. |
Before buying or configuring a headset, verify that its PC software recognizes both the headset and its motion controllers, and that your graphics card has the required video output or approved wireless path. Those checks are hardware compatibility decisions, not guarantees supplied by the D2R VR project.
Software stack required by D2R VR
The project README currently documents a specific combination. Versions can change when Blizzard patches the game or maintainers update their components.
| Component | Documented requirement | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Diablo II: Resurrected | Build 3.3.93787 in the documented setup | The Windows game being modified. |
| D2RLoader | Version 1.3.1 | Loads the mod/plugin into Resurrected. |
| ReShade | Add-on support enabled, with Generic Depth active | Provides the depth information used for the stereo/VR presentation. |
| BodyWalk | Version 1.78 or later | Supplies VR body, head, and hand integration. |
| FlatVR | Required with BodyWalk | Provides the virtual display and view integration used by the setup. |
| Game Link | Required with BodyWalk | Connects the VR-side integration to the game. |
The README says that a different game build requires its memory addresses to be checked; the plugin reports address information in its log. That means a game update can break an otherwise correct installation. Do not assume that an older loader and plugin remain compatible after an automatic patch.

- Install Resurrected for Windows. Use Blizzard’s PC installation process through Battle.net, let the game complete its update, and launch it once so authentication and the local installation are established.
- Record the installed game build. The documented D2R VR combination is build
3.3.93787. If your build differs, stop and check the project README and the loader log for address support before injecting anything. - Read the current D2R VR README. Download the project files only from the project’s published page and follow its current folder and launch instructions. The README is also where the maintainers publish compatibility changes.
- Install D2RLoader 1.3.1 for the documented build. Keep the loader version aligned with the game build and plugin instructions. A mismatched loader may fail to load or may report unsupported addresses.
- Install ReShade with add-on support. Enable the project’s Generic Depth component or setting as described in the current instructions. Without depth data, the intended stereo presentation cannot be configured correctly.
- Install BodyWalk 1.78 or newer, then enable FlatVR and Game Link. The project’s installer page describes setup assistance and says it can install/configure a free BodyWalk Lite option when BodyWalk is not already installed. Exact installer screens and bundled versions can change, so follow the live setup page: BodyWalkVR D2R VR setup page.
- Connect and test the headset before launching the mod. Confirm that the PC VR runtime sees the headset and controllers. If the VR runtime cannot see them, the game mod cannot receive the required head or hand data.
- Launch in offline single-player. Start the game through the documented mod path and select a local, offline character. Do not enter an online game with code injection active.
View modes and what each one does
The project README describes four presentation modes. They are different ways to view and control the same game, not four separate games.
| Mode | Experience | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Top-down stereo 3D | The familiar Diablo camera is presented stereoscopically for depth. | Closest to the standard game viewpoint. |
| Free third-person | A movable camera sits behind the hero. | Camera behavior depends on the mod’s current implementation. |
| Mixed-reality floor view | The scene is arranged as a floor-oriented view for a mixed-reality-style presentation. | Requires the documented FlatVR integration. |
| First-person (F4) | The view moves into first person, with arms controlled by headset controllers. | The author labels this an early preview. Weapons are not calibrated, and hand placement or aiming can be wrong for many weapons. |
First-person should therefore be treated as experimental rather than as a finished, fully calibrated VR conversion. If weapon alignment matters to you, start with the stereo or third-person modes.
Recommended display settings from the project
These are D2R VR’s configuration notes, not universal requirements for every headset or graphics card:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Turn VSync off.
- Set a 180-frame cap, described by the project as 90 frames per eye.
- Use FXAA or MSAA instead of TAA.
- Set ambient occlusion to Medium.
- Use a square game image. The project suggests resizing the game window or using a square FlatVR virtual monitor.
Apply one change at a time and check headset stability. If your computer cannot sustain the selected target, lower the game or headset rendering load rather than assuming that the flat-game minimum specification is sufficient.

Offline-only use and account safety
The project is intended for offline single-player. Its maintainers warn that injecting code into online play can result in an account ban. Keep modded launches and characters separate from any online session, and never treat the VR loader as an approved multiplayer modification.
Offline does not mean that the PC can remain permanently disconnected. Blizzard’s launch documentation says an internet connection is needed for downloading, updates, and periodic authentication. The practical distinction is that the game can be played in an offline single-player mode after those checks, while the mod itself should not be used online.

The loader does not recognize the game
Check the installed game build against the documented 3.3.93787 combination and inspect the plugin log for address information. If Blizzard has patched the game, wait for updated compatibility guidance rather than forcing an old address set.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The game opens, but depth or stereo output is wrong
Verify that ReShade was installed with add-on support and that Generic Depth is active. Also confirm that the game image is square and that FlatVR is configured as described by the project. A normal flat window does not automatically provide the mod’s intended depth pipeline.

Controllers are not represented in the game
First check the PC VR runtime outside the game. Then verify that BodyWalk, FlatVR, and Game Link are installed and enabled together. The project does not publish a universal controller compatibility matrix, so an unrecognized controller may require a supported runtime or a project-side update.
Performance is uneven or uncomfortable
Meeting Blizzard’s recommended flat-game specification is not a VR performance guarantee. Confirm that the headset connection is stable, use the project’s VSync, frame-cap, anti-aliasing, ambient-occlusion, and square-image recommendations, and reduce rendering load if the headset cannot hold its selected refresh cycle.
An online character or session is available
Do not launch it through the mod. The project’s online warning is a usage restriction, not a troubleshooting step; return to an unmodified game path for online play.

- You have Diablo II: Resurrected for Windows PC, not the original Diablo II.
- Your PC runs Windows 10 and has at least the published 8 GB RAM and 30 GB storage baseline; 16 GB RAM is Blizzard’s recommended flat-game figure.
- Your processor and GPU meet the published baseline, while recognizing that no VR benchmark is established.
- Your headset supports PC VR and has tracked motion controllers.
- Your installed game build is checked against the current D2R VR compatibility notes.
- D2RLoader, ReShade with Generic Depth, BodyWalk, FlatVR, and Game Link are aligned with the documented versions.
- You plan to use the mod only for offline single-player.
- You have reviewed the README again after any game patch.
What you can and cannot conclude before buying hardware
You can conclude that the setup needs a Windows PC, a PC VR headset, and the documented mod chain. You cannot conclude from the available specifications that a particular headset model, GPU, or refresh rate has been officially tested with D2R VR. Hardware selection should therefore prioritize PC-VR support, controller tracking, connection stability, comfort, and enough rendering headroom for your chosen headset settings rather than a claimed model-specific guarantee.
