To play a Crunchyroll Game Vault title on Android, you need a qualifying paid Crunchyroll membership, the Crunchyroll mobile app, an Android device that meets the selected game’s requirements, and enough free storage to install it. Current Crunchyroll Help information identifies Mega Fan, Ultimate Fan, and Annual Mega Fan as eligible tiers. You start the download from the Game Vault section in the app, which sends you to Google Play.
Crunchyroll’s general mobile guidance is Android 8.0 or later, 6 GB of RAM or more for the best experience, and at least 10 GB of additional free space. Those figures are general recommendations rather than a universal requirement for every title. The individual game’s Google Play listing and support page take priority when they specify different hardware or software requirements.
What you need before installing a Game Vault title
There are four separate prerequisites: account access, the Crunchyroll app, a compatible Android device, and sufficient free storage. Meeting only one or two of them is not enough; Game Vault access is tied to the subscription account that is signed in to the app.
An eligible Crunchyroll membership
Crunchyroll’s current Help article, What is the Crunchyroll Game Vault?, lists these qualifying memberships:

The account must be signed in inside the Crunchyroll mobile app. If you have a different plan, are signed out, or are using a different account from the one that owns the membership, the Game Vault section or a game’s install option may not appear as expected. The current Help article is the authority for eligibility; an older launch announcement is not a substitute for the present tier list.
The Crunchyroll mobile app
Game Vault titles are listed as available on Android and iOS. On Android, use the official Crunchyroll mobile app to browse the catalog and begin installation. The app acts as the entry point for the subscription entitlement, while Google Play handles the actual game download and installation.
A compatible Android phone or tablet
Your device needs a supported Android version, enough memory for the title, and free internal storage. A controller is not required for ordinary Game Vault access or for downloading a game.

Android requirements: general guidance versus a specific game
Crunchyroll publishes broad mobile specifications, but individual games can have their own thresholds. Treat the general figures as a readiness check, then verify the exact title before installing.

| Requirement | Crunchyroll general mobile guidance | Example of a title-specific support page | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Android version | Android 8.0 or later | Android 8 or higher | Use the selected game’s current Google Play listing if it requires a newer version. |
| RAM | 6 GB or more recommended for the best experience | 4 GB RAM listed | RAM needs can differ by game; the title-specific value controls compatibility for that title. |
| Free storage | At least 10 GB of additional free space recommended | 10 GB free storage listed | Leave room for the download, installation files, updates, and normal Android operation. |
The general specification page does not establish that 6 GB of RAM or 10 GB of free space is mandatory for every Game Vault game. Conversely, a phone that satisfies the general recommendation is not guaranteed to run every title, because a particular game can demand a newer Android release, more memory, or more storage.
Do not confuse app support with game performance
Crunchyroll’s supported-device information separately identifies Android 8 as the minimum Android operating system for the Crunchyroll app. That tells you whether the app itself can be supported; it does not promise that every game will perform well on an Android 8 device. A game can also have higher graphics, memory, or storage requirements than the app.
How to check your Android device
Check the phone or tablet before starting a large download. Android menu names vary by manufacturer, but the information is normally available in these locations:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Check the Android version. Open Settings, choose About phone or About tablet, and find Android version. Confirm that it meets the version shown on the selected game’s Google Play page.
- Check available storage. In Settings, open Storage. Look at available internal space, not the device’s advertised total capacity. Aim to have at least 10 GB free when following Crunchyroll’s general recommendation, and more if the game listing specifies a larger amount.
- Check RAM. Depending on the manufacturer, RAM appears under About phone, Memory, or a device-information screen. Compare it with the game’s listed requirement. The 6 GB figure is Crunchyroll’s general recommendation for the best experience, while a specific game may list 4 GB or another value.
- Check the exact title listing. Search for the game in Google Play and read the compatibility and storage information shown for your device. Also look for the game’s support article if Crunchyroll provides one.
Free space is not the same as the game’s final installed size. Google Play may need temporary room to download and unpack files, and later updates can increase the amount required. Keeping additional headroom avoids an installation that fails after the download has started.

How to install a Crunchyroll Game Vault game on Android
Crunchyroll’s installation instructions use the mobile app’s Game Vault section, with Google Play completing the installation.
- Sign in to the right account. Open the Crunchyroll app and confirm that it is signed in to the account with a Mega Fan, Ultimate Fan, or Annual Mega Fan membership.
- Open Game Vault. From the app’s home page, find and select Game Vault. If the section is not visible, verify the account and membership before troubleshooting the device.
- Choose a game. Select the title you want to play and read its description, Android version, memory, and storage information. Do not rely only on the general 6 GB and 10 GB guidance.
- Follow the Google Play redirect. Use the install option in the title page. Crunchyroll sends you to that game’s Google Play listing, where Android performs the download.
- Install from Google Play. Tap Install and wait for the download and installation to finish. Google Play may ask you to approve permissions or confirm the account used by the Play Store.
- Launch the game. Open it from Google Play or the Android app drawer. Keep the Crunchyroll app and the game associated with the same eligible account when the game requests subscription verification.
Crunchyroll also says you can search for Game Vault games directly in the Play Store. If you use that route, make sure the result is the intended Game Vault title and that the game’s listing is compatible with your device; the subscription entitlement still comes from your qualifying Crunchyroll account.
What happens after installation
The game is installed as a normal Android app, but access is connected to the membership entitlement. The subscription does not turn the phone’s total storage into game storage, so you still need free internal space for the title and its updates.

Game availability can change as the catalog changes. A title that appears in the app may have a different current requirement from another title, which is why checking each listing is necessary even when the device already runs the Crunchyroll app.

Historical launch details
Crunchyroll’s November 7, 2023 launch announcement, updated November 16, described Game Vault access for Mega and Ultimate Fan members and said the launch games were available without ads or in-app purchases. Those statements describe the launch lineup and should not be read as the current membership definition or as a guarantee that every later title has identical commercial terms. For present access, use the current Help eligibility list and the individual game’s listing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is a Bluetooth controller required?
No. Crunchyroll does not require a physical accessory for general Game Vault access on Android. Touch controls and the game’s own supported input methods are sufficient unless a particular title says otherwise.
There is a documented, title-specific use for a controller: the 2023 launch announcement says River City Girls “Supports local two-player co-op with Bluetooth controllers.” That describes local co-op for River City Girls, not a universal Game Vault requirement or a promise that every title supports Bluetooth input. If you want to use one, pair the controller in Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device before opening the game, then check the game’s controls or support information.

Troubleshooting common access and installation problems
Game Vault is missing from the app
- Confirm that the app is signed in to the account holding Mega Fan, Ultimate Fan, or Annual Mega Fan.
- Check the membership status in the account area rather than assuming the device is using the intended account.
- Close and reopen the app after correcting the account. If the section still does not appear, consult Crunchyroll Help for account-specific assistance.
The Play Store says the device is incompatible
- Compare the Android version shown in the Play Store listing with the version in Settings > About phone/tablet.
- Read the title-specific support page. The individual game’s requirements can differ from the general Android 8 guidance.
- Do not infer compatibility from the fact that the Crunchyroll app itself installs; app support and game requirements are separate.
The download will not start or stops partway through
- Check internal storage and create more headroom than the listed minimum if the device is close to full.
- Use a stable connection and leave Google Play open long enough for the download to complete.
- Retry from the game’s Google Play listing after confirming that the correct Crunchyroll account is active in the app.
The game installs but runs poorly
- Compare the device’s RAM with the title’s recommendation. Crunchyroll recommends 6 GB or more for the best general mobile experience, but a listing may set a different baseline.
- Close other demanding apps and ensure Android has free storage for temporary files and updates.
- Look for graphics or performance settings inside the game. A device meeting the minimum requirement may still deliver a better experience at reduced visual settings.
The controller does not work
- Pair the Bluetooth controller with Android before launching the game.
- Check whether the specific title documents controller support; River City Girls is the documented example for local two-player co-op.
- If the game does not list controller support, use its touch controls or consult that title’s support information rather than assuming all Game Vault games accept a controller.
A practical readiness checklist
Before tapping Install, verify each item:
- Your Crunchyroll account has Mega Fan, Ultimate Fan, or Annual Mega Fan access.
- The Crunchyroll Android app is signed in to that account.
- The device runs Android 8.0 or later, or the newer version required by the selected title.
- Available internal storage meets the game’s listing; 10 GB or more is Crunchyroll’s general recommendation.
- RAM meets the title’s requirement; 6 GB or more is the general recommendation for the best experience.
- You have opened the current Google Play listing and checked its compatibility details.
- A controller is treated as optional unless the individual game specifically documents controller play.
