To play Amazon Luna, you need an internet connection of at least 10 Mbps, a supported device and browser, and a compatible input method. Amazon recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi‑Fi for the best experience, but 10 Mbps is only a minimum floor—not a guarantee of a particular resolution, frame rate, or latency. You do not have to buy a Luna Controller: supported computers can use a keyboard and mouse, and many existing gamepads work.
Amazon Luna requirements at a glance
Luna streams games from Amazon’s servers, so your setup must satisfy four separate requirements:
- Internet: Amazon states a minimum streaming speed of 10 Mbps.
- Network quality: Amazon recommends wired Ethernet or a 5 GHz wireless network for best performance.
- Compatible hardware and software: Luna supports specific computers, mobile devices, Fire TV devices, operating systems and browser versions.
- Input: You need a compatible controller, or a keyboard and mouse on supported computers. A phone can act as a virtual controller for GameNight.
Amazon’s Luna Terms of Use say stream quality, resolution and latency also depend on the device, your location, network connection, available bandwidth and subscription status. Requirements can change, and Amazon may remove compatibility for a device when software or systems maintained by the manufacturer or another provider change.
How fast must your internet be?
Amazon Customer Service’s “Amazon Luna Compatible Devices and Browsers” page states: “Minimum internet speed needed to stream with Luna is 10 Mbps.” That is the only minimum speed figure Amazon publishes on the cited support page. It does not specify a separate upload-speed minimum or a universal latency limit.

Think of 10 Mbps as an eligibility threshold rather than a performance promise. A connection that tests above that number can still produce blurry video, delayed controls or interruptions if the signal is unstable, other devices consume bandwidth, or the route to Amazon’s servers is congested. Amazon’s terms allow it to optimize stream quality when bandwidth constraints could cause an interruption.
What Amazon recommends for the connection
- Wired Ethernet: Connect the playing device directly to the router when practical. This avoids wireless interference and is Amazon’s preferred option for best performance.
- 5 GHz Wi‑Fi: Use the 5 GHz band when Ethernet is not practical. It is a recommendation, not a mandatory requirement.
- Stable capacity: Pause large downloads, cloud backups and high-bitrate video streams on the same connection if Luna becomes inconsistent.
Amazon’s setup troubleshooting guidance says to confirm a connection speed of at least 10 Mbps. Run a speed test on the same device and in the same location where you intend to play; a test on another computer or beside the router may not represent the connection Luna receives.
Supported devices and browser versions
Amazon’s current compatibility page lists PC, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad, Android and compatible Fire TV devices. The browser and operating-system combinations below are the minimum versions listed on that page as of the October 13, 2026 compatibility check.

“Compatible Fire TV” does not mean every Fire TV model automatically qualifies. Check Amazon’s live compatibility list for the exact model before relying on it. Amazon also notes that other devices may be reachable through Chrome, but gameplay quality and features may not work as expected.

Browser permissions on computers
When Luna runs in a browser, allow keyboard and mouse permissions if the browser asks. Denying those permissions can make a keyboard-and-mouse setup appear nonfunctional even when the browser version is supported.
Why compatibility can change
Amazon’s Luna Terms of Use, last updated June 10, 2026, state that Amazon may add devices or change requirements and that compatibility can depend on software or systems maintained by the device manufacturer or another third party. Check the current compatibility page immediately before troubleshooting an older phone, browser or television device.
Do you need to buy an Amazon Luna Controller?
No. Amazon says you can use a compatible game controller, and supported computers can use a keyboard and mouse. The Amazon Luna Controller is one optional solution, not a prerequisite for starting a game.

Amazon’s controller-support page lists options across its device-specific tables. Compatibility is not universal: a controller listed for Windows may not be listed for an iPhone, Fire TV or another target. Use the row for the device on which you will play.

Amazon says other controllers may work, but features may be unavailable and third-party models may need additional drivers. Therefore, “it connects over Bluetooth” is not enough to establish full Luna support.
How to connect a controller and start playing
- Choose the target device. Confirm that its operating system and browser appear on Amazon’s current compatibility page.
- Check the controller for that device. Use Amazon’s device-specific controller row rather than assuming support carries across platforms.
- Connect the controller. Pair it over Bluetooth or connect it with a data-capable USB cable. A charge-only cable will not provide a wired data connection.
- Open Luna. Launch the Luna app where available, or open Luna in a supported browser.
- Grant requested permissions. On a computer, allow keyboard and mouse access if you intend to use those controls.
- Test input before launching a long session. If Luna does not detect the controller, disconnect other gamepads, reconnect the cable or repeat Bluetooth pairing before changing unrelated settings.
Amazon’s setup instructions specifically support Bluetooth and data-capable USB connections. They do not require the Amazon Luna Controller when another compatible controller is available.
Using a keyboard and mouse
Supported computers can play with a keyboard and mouse instead of a gamepad. This is the simplest no-purchase option for a PC, Mac or Chromebook that meets the browser requirements. The browser may request permission to access those devices; approve the request or Luna may not receive input.

Can a phone be used as the controller?
Amazon supports compatible phones and tablets as virtual controllers for GameNight. This feature is designed for GameNight and should not be treated as a universal controller for every Luna game. Check the individual game and feature support before planning a session around phone control.
A practical setup checklist
- Measure at least 10 Mbps on the playing device.
- Use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi‑Fi when possible.
- Update the browser to at least the version listed for your device.
- Confirm the phone, tablet, Chromebook or Fire TV model appears on Amazon’s current list.
- Have a controller listed for that specific device, or use a keyboard and mouse on a supported computer.
- Use a data-capable USB cable if connecting by wire.
- Allow keyboard and mouse permissions when the browser requests them.
- Reduce competing network traffic if the stream becomes unstable.
Troubleshooting common Luna problems
The speed test is below 10 Mbps
Move closer to the wireless access point, switch to 5 GHz Wi‑Fi or use Ethernet, then test again. If several people or devices are consuming the connection, pause those activities and retest. Amazon’s stated minimum is 10 Mbps; below that, streaming may be interrupted.
The speed test passes, but gameplay stutters
Check stability rather than only the headline speed. Test on the same device and at the same location, stop competing downloads and try Ethernet. Amazon’s terms identify device, location, network connection, bandwidth and subscription status as factors in quality and latency, so a higher speed number alone cannot diagnose every problem.

The browser or device is rejected
Compare the exact operating system and browser version with Amazon’s live compatibility page. A browser that is newer than the listed minimum is normally the appropriate update path, but an unsupported device model may remain unsupported even after an update. Amazon warns that requirements can change.

The controller is connected but Luna does not respond
Verify that the model is listed for the specific device, not merely somewhere in Amazon’s overall controller tables. Re-pair Bluetooth, try a data-capable USB cable, remove other connected controllers and install any driver required by a third-party model. Amazon notes that unlisted controllers may work with missing features.
Keyboard and mouse input does nothing
Use a supported computer, reopen Luna and approve the browser’s keyboard-and-mouse permission request. This input method is not a general replacement for a controller on every Luna-compatible device.
What can affect picture quality and latency?
Amazon does not publish a universal resolution, frame-rate or latency guarantee tied to the 10 Mbps figure. Its terms say these outcomes vary with the compatible device, location, network connection, bandwidth and subscription status. Amazon may lower or optimize stream quality when available bandwidth threatens continuity. Consequently, two players meeting the same speed minimum can see different results.

The most reliable way to improve the setup is to remove avoidable variables: use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi‑Fi, play on a currently supported device and browser, keep the connection free of heavy competing traffic and use a controller listed for that device.
Bottom line for different setups
- PC or Mac: You need 10 Mbps or more, Chrome 83+ or Edge 90+, and either a listed controller or keyboard and mouse.
- Chromebook: Use Chrome 86+ and a controller supported for that Chromebook setup; keyboard and mouse are available on supported computers.
- iPhone or iPad: Use Safari on iOS 15+ or iPadOS 15+, respectively, plus a controller listed for that device.
- Android: Use Android 10+ with Chrome 86+ and a compatible controller.
- Fire TV: Confirm the exact model is supported and that it runs Fire OS 5, Vega OS 1.1 or later; then use a controller listed for that device.
- GameNight: A compatible phone or tablet can serve as a virtual controller for the GameNight feature.
Before buying equipment, check Amazon’s current compatibility and controller pages. The minimum connection is 10 Mbps, but the best chance of consistent play comes from a stable Ethernet or 5 GHz connection, a supported device/browser combination and an input method explicitly listed for that device.
