The safest way to buy a racing wheel and pedal set is to begin with your exact platform and games, then verify the specific model variant, pedal connection, mounting method and accessory support. A wheel that fits your desk can still fail to work with your console, a particular game or a cloud-streaming version of that game.
Start with the platform, not the wheel brand
Racing wheels are not automatically interchangeable between PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Product families can have separate console versions with different electronics or licensing. Check the exact stock-keeping unit (SKU), not just the family name printed on a retailer page.
PlayStation and PC variants
The Logitech G29 listing on PlayStation Direct identifies compatibility with PS5, PS4, PS3 and Windows PC. The Logitech G923 listing identifies PS5, PS4 and Windows PC support. Those are platform statements for the listed products; they do not establish Xbox compatibility.
Thrustmaster lists a T248 version for PS4, PS5 and PC and a separate Xbox One/Xbox Series/PC version in its compatibility table. A “T248” name alone is therefore not enough: the console designation on the box and product page must match your system.

Xbox variants
Do not assume that a PlayStation edition will work on Xbox, or that an Xbox edition will work on PlayStation. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility table for the exact base, pedal set and accessory combination. If a listing only names PlayStation and PC, treat Xbox support as unconfirmed rather than inferred.
PC requirements
Confirm the operating-system requirements shown for the specific wheel, then check how the pedals connect. Some pedal sets can connect through the wheel base; certain Thrustmaster load-cell configurations are also intended to connect directly to a PC by USB for the specified sets. The connection route can affect compatibility and available resolution.
Check game support separately
A compatible console does not guarantee that every racing game will recognize the wheel or expose force feedback. The Logitech G29 and G923 listings state that supported games are required for force-feedback operation. Before ordering, open the game’s control or peripheral documentation and look for wheel and force-feedback support on your platform.
What to verify in a game
- Whether the game supports a wheel at all, rather than only a gamepad.
- Whether force feedback is supported for your exact wheel model or wheel family.
- Whether the game supports the console generation you use.
- Whether additional functions, such as advanced feedback effects or button mapping, require a supported title.
For the G923, the manufacturer’s listing says TRUEFORCE and other advanced features require game integration. A game can therefore recognize the wheel while omitting those enhanced effects. Treat “works with the game” and “supports every advertised feature” as separate checks.
Installed games versus cloud or streaming modes
Thrustmaster’s TMX support page states that its racing wheels are not compatible with games running in cloud gaming or streaming mode and advises downloading the game to the console or PC. This is a Thrustmaster support statement for the products and services covered on that page, not a universal rule for every wheel. If you intend to stream a game, verify the exact wheel, game and streaming service before buying.
Understand what “force feedback” describes
“Force feedback” is an umbrella term. The mechanism and the software features behind it vary by model, and manufacturer descriptions are not independent performance tests. Compare what is documented for each candidate instead of treating the label as a ranking.
Gear, belt, hybrid and direct-drive descriptions
Manufacturers may identify a wheel as gear-driven, belt-driven, hybrid or direct-drive. Those labels describe the drive arrangement, but a label alone does not establish how strong, quiet or realistic one wheel will feel against another. Look for the mechanism explicitly documented for the exact model and read the game-support notes for its special effects.

- Logitech G923: The listing describes TRUEFORCE and notes that advanced features need game integration.
- Thrustmaster T248: The product page describes a hybrid drive force-feedback system and three force-feedback presets.
These are manufacturer descriptions, not a controlled head-to-head test. Use them to identify feature differences, then check independent fit factors such as platform, game support, pedals and mounting.
Presets and in-game settings
The T248’s three force-feedback presets give you documented adjustment choices on that model. Other wheels may expose different controls or rely more heavily on game menus. Check whether the title you play lets you adjust force strength, damping, rotation or button assignments; the presence of a physical control does not guarantee identical settings in every game.
Examine the included pedals
The pedal set determines how you brake and accelerate, how much desk or floor space you need and what upgrades are possible later. Count the included pedals, identify the sensor technology and confirm the connection path before comparing prices.
Pedal count and sensor type
The G29 listing specifies a three-pedal floor unit. That gives you accelerator, brake and clutch inputs in the box. A two-pedal set may be adequate for a car that uses automatic shifting, but it will not provide a separate clutch input without an upgrade. Read the included-equipment list rather than relying on product photographs.

The T248 listing describes magnetic pedals and selectable brake-pressure modes. That is a model-specific feature; it should not be assumed for every Thrustmaster set or for competing products.
What a load-cell brake changes
Thrustmaster’s pedal guide identifies load-cell brake products and upgrades and lists compatible wheel bases. A load-cell brake measures applied pressure rather than relying only on pedal travel. In practice, the important buying question is not simply whether a pedal is called “load-cell,” but whether the exact pedal, base and platform connection are supported together.
Connection path matters
For the specified Thrustmaster sets, the pedal guide recommends a direct USB connection to a PC for optimal resolution. On PlayStation and Xbox, it specifies connecting the cited pedals to the wheel base through RJ12. This advice is product-specific. Do not plug a pedal set into a console or base using an adapter unless the manufacturer lists that arrangement.

Questions to ask before an upgrade
- Is the upgrade listed as compatible with your exact wheel base?
- Does the base have the required pedal connector?
- Does your platform support direct USB pedals, or must they connect through the base?
- Will the upgrade preserve console support, or is it intended for PC only?
- Does the game expose clutch and brake features after the upgrade?
Plan the mounting space
A wheel is only useful if you can attach it securely and remove it without damaging your desk. Measure the available surface and inspect the mounting method before purchasing a stand or cockpit.

The G29 listing specifies clamps and screw mounting points. That gives you two documented installation approaches, but it does not establish universal desk thickness limits or a universal hole pattern. Check the exact manual for clamp clearance, screw access and the surface material you intend to use.
Wheel stands and cockpits
A wheel stand or cockpit can provide a fixed driving position and a separate pedal platform, but mounting compatibility is model-specific. Compare the stand’s published mounting holes, tray dimensions and pedal attachment points with the wheel and pedal manuals. The available information does not establish universal dimensions, so do not assume that a stand advertised as “universal” will fit every base.
Footprint and storage
Measure the combined width and depth of the wheel base, pedal unit and any shifter. Leave room for your hands to turn the wheel and for the pedals to sit at a comfortable angle. If the setup must be stored after each session, check how quickly the clamps release and whether cables can remain connected without being sharply bent.
Decide whether you need a shifter or other add-ons

The G29 listing identifies an optional six-speed H-pattern shifter. It is an ecosystem accessory example, not proof that the same shifter works with another wheel family. Verify the intended wheel base, connector and supported games before adding a shifter to your order.
Pedal upgrades
A load-cell brake or replacement pedal set can be a sensible upgrade when the base is already compatible. Use the manufacturer’s pedal compatibility table and connection instructions; a pedal that works on PC by USB may require RJ12-to-base connection on a console.

Other accessories
Do not buy an accessory solely because its plug looks similar. Confirm mechanical fit, electrical connection and platform support for the complete combination. If the manufacturer lists a separate PlayStation and Xbox base, accessories may also be restricted to one variant.

Mistake: buying a stand without checking fit
Symptom: The wheel clamps do not align with the stand or the pedals cannot be secured. Fix: Compare the exact wheel and pedal mounting points with the stand or cockpit specifications before ordering.
