As of October 13, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI is officially announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The announced launch date is November 19, 2026. Rockstar, Sony and Xbox have not published model-specific minimum specifications, storage requirements, frame-rate targets or a performance comparison between PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. You therefore do not have an official basis for saying that a PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X is required.
If you already own a PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, your console family is among the confirmed platforms. If you do not own one, choose between the supported families based on availability, price, your existing game library and platform preferences—not on an unverified claim that only the most expensive model will run the game.
What console do you need to play GTA 6?
Rockstar Games’ current support information lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the supported console platforms. The Xbox listing also identifies Xbox Series X|S, while Sony’s PlayStation announcement describes a PS5 launch. Those are the confirmed compatibility statements.
The announced release date is November 19, 2026. That is a current announced date, not a guarantee that cannot change. Check Rockstar’s support page and the relevant console storefront close to launch for any revision.

What “console requirements” are—and are not—confirmed
For a PC game, requirements normally include a processor, graphics card, memory, operating-system version and storage target. The official GTA VI console announcements do not provide an equivalent minimum-specification sheet. They do not state:
- Required system memory or graphics hardware
- Installation size or free-storage minimum
- Resolution, frame-rate or graphics-mode targets
- Whether one console model receives a higher frame rate than another
- A minimum or recommended model within the PS5 or Xbox Series families
Do not turn trailer quality, the age of a console, or performance in another game into a GTA VI requirement. Until Rockstar publishes technical details, the defensible answer is family-level compatibility only: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Will GTA 6 run on PS5 or Xbox Series S?
PlayStation 5
Yes. PS5 is explicitly listed as a launch platform. Sony’s PlayStation Blog says the game will use PS5 capabilities including DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and the PS5 SSD. Sony presents those features as part of the PS5 experience; the blog does not publish a neutral benchmark against Xbox consoles or a separate minimum specification.

Xbox Series S
Yes, Xbox Series S is included in the official Xbox Series X|S platform listing. The available announcements do not say what resolution, frame rate, visual settings or loading behavior the Series S version will use. A Series S owner should not promise a particular mode based on speculation, and a buyer should not treat the absence of published numbers as evidence that the console is unsupported.
Xbox Series X
Yes, Xbox Series X is also confirmed. No cited official source ranks it against PS5, PS5 Pro or Series S for GTA VI, and none says Series X is mandatory for a particular visual setting.
Do you need a PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X?
No official source currently says that you do. Rockstar’s platform information confirms the PS5 family and Xbox Series X|S family without naming a required model. It also does not publish a comparison showing that PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X is the only way to reach a specified resolution or frame rate.
Buy a premium model only for reasons you can verify independently, such as its broader capabilities for your other games, a discount you have found locally, or a preference for that hardware. Do not pay extra solely because an online article claims GTA VI requires it. Recheck Rockstar’s support information if a later technical announcement adds model-specific modes.

Launch date, editions and announced US prices
Take-Two Interactive Software’s June 24, 2026 announcement gave a US launch price of $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. These are announcement prices for the United States, not a worldwide price list; taxes, currency conversion and regional storefront pricing can differ.
| Edition | Announced US price | Details stated by the official announcements |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $79.99 | Base console edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | Includes an upgrade with additional vehicles, weapons, apparel and other content, as described by Take-Two. |
| Ultimate Edition Upgrade | Price not stated in the cited material | Rockstar says Standard Edition owners can purchase the upgrade digitally after redeeming the game code. |
Because prices and contents can change, verify the live listing in your country before paying. The announced date and prices should be read as the information available in the June 24, 2026 announcement, not as a promise that every storefront will show identical terms.
Is there a disc version of GTA 6?
Rockstar’s support page describes the “physical” boxed version as a download code in a box, with no disc included. That distinction matters if you expect to install from optical media, lend a disc to someone else or resell a disc after finishing the game.
Rockstar says the boxed version is expected to be available for shipping and pickup beginning November 12, 2026, so buyers can redeem the code and preload before the November 19 launch. Confirm the retailer’s current listing and the code’s platform before ordering; a box does not automatically mean a disc or a transferable physical license.

Rockstar says digital pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+. Take-Two’s announcement describes the same Vintage Vice City Pack and one free month of GTA+ for digital pre-orders.
These are time-sensitive offers and may vary by storefront or region. Read the terms shown at checkout rather than assuming that a boxed download code, a purchase after launch or a different country’s store carries the same bonus.
How PS5 features are described
Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President of Marketing Mary Yee wrote that, through its partnership with Rockstar, “Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features.” The statement is Sony’s platform-holder marketing characterization, not an independent test or a cross-console ranking.

Sony specifically identifies:

- Tempest 3D AudioTech
- The PS5 SSD
Those features may matter to someone choosing a platform, but the cited material does not establish that they make PS5 faster, sharper or otherwise superior to Xbox for every player. Compare supported consoles using factors you can verify: the hardware you already own, local price and stock, your account and game-library ecosystem, and whether Sony’s described controller and audio features appeal to you.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
The official support and announcement pages cited for this article list PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. They do not announce a PC version, PC system requirements or a PC release date. The accurate wording is therefore that the currently announced platforms are those two console families. Do not predict a PC launch date, and do not state that a PC version will never exist; neither claim is established by these announcements.
Buy the correct edition and code for your region
Code-region rules can create a problem even when the console itself is compatible. Rockstar says redemption restrictions depend on the country or region associated with the platform account and recommends buying from a retailer in the country of that account.
- Check your account country. Look at the country or region attached to your PlayStation Network or Xbox account.
- Match the retailer to that country. Prefer a retailer selling a code intended for the same region.
- Confirm the platform. A PS5 code and an Xbox code are not interchangeable.
- Read the code terms. Rockstar lists PlayStation regional groupings and says Xbox codes are not region-locked, but local restrictions can still apply to redemption and content.
- Check Japan-specific timing. Rockstar notes that, because of regional regulations, a Japan-specific code expires 170 days after issuance.
- Keep your receipt and code record. Do not redeem until you have confirmed that the account and platform match the package.
If a code fails, stop retrying random storefront accounts. Check the country mismatch first, then contact the retailer or platform support with the purchase record and the exact error message.
Practical buying checklist
- You own, or plan to buy, a PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.
- The console has current system software and enough free storage for the final installation; Rockstar has not yet published a storage number.
- You selected the correct platform and edition.
- Your account country matches the code’s intended region.
- You understand that the boxed “physical” version is a download code rather than a disc.
- You checked whether the Vintage Vice City Pack and GTA+ offer still appears for your storefront and purchase date.
- You treated the November 19, 2026 date and the US prices as current announcements that should be rechecked before purchase.
What to recheck before launch
Official information can become more specific as release approaches. Before downloading or buying, look for updates to Rockstar’s platform-and-editions support page and the live PlayStation or Xbox store listing. The most useful future additions would be installation size, preload timing, resolution and frame-rate modes, patch requirements, online-service requirements and any differences between Series S, Series X, PS5 and PS5 Pro.
