Windows “God Mode” is an informal name for a folder-naming shortcut that opens the Windows shell’s All Tasks view. It collects links to many existing Control Panel tasks in one Explorer window, making older settings easier to find.
It does not create an administrator account, unlock secret powers, bypass security checks, or add new settings. The shortcut changes navigation only; Windows permissions still decide whether you can perform an operation.
What Windows God Mode actually is
The feature commonly called God Mode is a special shell namespace selected by a class identifier, or CLSID. When a folder is renamed with a particular label followed by that identifier, Explorer treats the folder as a link to Windows’ All Tasks namespace instead of as an ordinary storage folder.
Use this exact name:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
The text before the period is only the display label. You could replace GodMode with another label, such as All Tasks, and the same CLSID would still select the same namespace. The braces and every character in the CLSID matter.

Opening the renamed folder shows a long, standard Explorer list of links to Windows tasks. Depending on your Windows version, edition, installed components and configuration, entries can include mouse-pointer options, disk-partition tools and other Control Panel functions.
This is best understood as a convenience shortcut to existing interfaces, not as a separate settings engine. It does not manufacture a second set of controls or expose a privileged operating mode.
How to enable God Mode in Windows 11
You do not install software or change a registry value. Creating the folder is reversible and normally takes less than a minute.
- Go to the desktop or another location where you want the shortcut. The desktop is easiest to find, but any writable folder can work.
- Right-click an empty area and choose New, then Folder.
- Right-click the new folder and choose Rename.
- Replace the folder name with
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}, then press Enter. Do not add a space between the label, period and opening brace. - Open the renamed folder. Its normal folder icon and name should change to an Explorer-style Control Panel icon or a similar shell icon, and the All Tasks list should appear.
If Windows keeps the name as a normal folder, check for a typing error. The CLSID must be exactly ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C, including the hyphens and braces. File-name extensions do not need to be enabled or disabled for this method.
Choosing a different label
GodMode has no technical effect. It is simply the text Explorer displays. Names such as Windows Tasks or All Control Panel Tasks work when followed by the same period and CLSID. A descriptive label can help other people understand that the item is a shortcut rather than a place to store documents.

Removing the shortcut
Because the item is a namespace link rather than a normal folder containing files, deleting it removes the shortcut and not a collection of settings. Close any task windows first, then select the item and press Delete. You can recreate it later with the same name.
What you see inside the All Tasks list
The view is a broad, alphabetized list of links to tasks that Windows already exposes through Control Panel and related shell components. Selecting an entry opens the corresponding configuration page or tool. The list can be useful when you know roughly what you want to change but do not remember which Control Panel category contains it.

- Storage administration: entries can include disk or partition-related tasks.
- System and account configuration: other links may open familiar Control Panel applets, depending on the installation.
The exact inventory is not fixed. Windows editions, optional features, hardware, policy settings and future updates can change which entries appear. There is no authoritative universal count of items, so claims that every installation contains a specific number should be treated skeptically.
All Tasks is also not a custom-designed dashboard. The original technical explanation describes it as a plain Explorer list, while Control Panel supplies a custom category and icon view intended to be easier to navigate. You may therefore find the shortcut comprehensive but visually cumbersome.
What God Mode does not do
It does not grant administrator access
Opening the list does not elevate your account. A standard user remains a standard user, and an administrator is still subject to User Account Control and other authorization checks. If a task requires elevation, Windows will request administrator credentials or confirmation when you start that task.

Microsoft’s Windows documentation identifies permissions and user rights—not the name of a folder—as the mechanisms that determine what a user can do. God Mode cannot bypass file permissions, security policies, application restrictions or enterprise management controls.

The shortcut gathers links to existing tasks. It does not add undocumented administrator panels, enable unsupported features or reveal a secret “full control” mode. If a setting is unavailable to your account or edition, placing its link in this list does not change that limitation.
It does not contain every Windows setting
Microsoft describes the Settings app as the main place to customize and manage Windows. Many controls are moving from Control Panel to Settings, while Control Panel remains available for compatibility and for settings that have not yet migrated. Since All Tasks is tied to the shell’s Control Panel task namespace, it cannot be a guaranteed inventory of every modern Windows option.
For current Windows 11 features, open Settings with Windows+I and search there first. To reach the traditional Control Panel, search for Control Panel from Start, or press Windows+R, type control, and press Enter.
It does not replace Settings or Control Panel in every situation
The list can shorten the path to legacy applets, but it does not offer the organization, explanations or search behavior of the modern Settings app. Some entries may open older dialogs, redirect to Settings, or do nothing useful if a component is missing or restricted.

Neither view changes authorization. The practical difference is navigation: All Tasks puts many links in one place, while Control Panel provides more structure.
Why people still use it
Windows has accumulated settings across several generations of interfaces. A task may be available in Control Panel but difficult to locate because its category name is not obvious, or because Microsoft has moved related controls into Settings without removing the older applet. The shortcut can serve as a personal index of those legacy entry points.
It is especially useful when following older technical instructions that refer to a Control Panel applet, when managing a machine that still relies on classic dialogs, or when you prefer scanning a complete list instead of guessing search terms. It is less useful if all of the settings you need are already easy to find in Settings.

Creating the shortcut does not install a third-party program, modify system files or change account privileges. The main risk is misunderstanding what an entry does: some links open consequential tools, such as storage or system-management dialogs, so read each window before applying a change.

Brandon Paddock, who documented the technique in a 2010 personal blog post, warned: “The existence of this folder and its CLSID are implementation details and should not be relied upon by anybody for any purpose*.” His footnote distinguished software depending on the behavior from personal use of the shortcut. In other words, it can be handy, but it is not a Microsoft-supported contract that must remain unchanged.

A future Windows update could alter the namespace, rename entries, redirect tasks or stop the shortcut from working. Do not build an application, deployment process or support guarantee around this CLSID. For durable administration, use documented Settings, Control Panel, command-line tools or management policies appropriate to your Windows edition.
Troubleshooting common problems
The folder remains an ordinary folder
- Rename it again and compare every character with
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. - Make sure the period appears immediately before the opening brace.
- Confirm that the final character is a closing brace and that no extra characters follow it.
- Try creating the folder on the desktop or in another location where you have write permission.
The list opens but an item is missing
Entries vary with Windows version, edition, optional components, hardware and policy. The absence of an item does not indicate a failed shortcut. Look in Settings or search Control Panel directly for a newer or relocated replacement.
An item asks for credentials or refuses a change
That is normal for a protected operation. The shortcut only launches the task; Windows still enforces User Account Control, account permissions and organizational policy. Use an authorized administrator account when appropriate rather than attempting to bypass the prompt.

The shortcut stops working after an update
Because the namespace is an internal shell detail, an update can change its behavior. Delete the old shortcut and test the exact name again. If it still fails, use Settings or the normal Control Panel entry point instead of treating the shortcut as a guaranteed feature.
When to use Settings, Control Panel or the shortcut
- Choose Settings for current Windows 11 configuration, personalization, accounts, privacy and features Microsoft has migrated to the modern interface.
- Choose Control Panel when documentation or a device requires a classic applet, or when the setting has not yet moved.
- Choose All Tasks when you want a quick, searchable-feeling list of legacy tasks and accept that its organization and availability may change.
The shortcut is therefore optional convenience, not a maintenance requirement. Removing it has no effect on Windows configuration; it only removes your shortcut to the list.
