Most Wyze cameras need a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network using WPA/WPA2 security. During setup, connect your phone or tablet to that same 2.4 GHz network, then enter its exact network name and password in the Wyze app. Some Wyze products support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, so check the setup guide for your specific model before relying on the general rule.

Which Wi-Fi network works with a Wyze camera?

Wyze’s general guidance is that most of its devices work only on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with WPA/WPA2 security. A few named products support 5 GHz as well, including Wyze Battery Cam Pro, Wyze Cam Floodlight Pro, and Wyze Video Doorbell Pro. Wyze’s connectivity tips also list Wyze Mesh Router and Mesh Router Pro as 5 GHz-capable. Capabilities vary by product, so use the current setup guide for your exact camera model.

Wyze cameras are not suited to enterprise Wi-Fi that requires a landing page, browser sign-in, or account-based portal, as is common on some hotel and public networks. See Wyze’s Wi-Fi and router requirements.

Set up the camera on 2.4 GHz

  1. Connect your phone or tablet. In your device’s Wi-Fi settings, join the 2.4 GHz network you intend to use for the camera. Wyze’s app guidance requires a 2.4 GHz connection during setup.
  2. Power the camera and open the Wyze app. Follow the instructions for your model, then add that camera in the app.
  3. Put the camera in setup mode. Use the model-specific SETUP button and indicator instructions. For example, the Cam v3 guide says to press SETUP until the camera announces it is ready to connect. Cam v4 has a model-specific button location behind the lens and may announce readiness without a button press.
  4. Enter the network details. Select the 2.4 GHz network and enter its password carefully. The Cam v4 guide specifies using the same 2.4 GHz network as the phone.

The steps above reflect Wyze’s Cam v3 setup guide, Cam v4 setup guide, and Wyze app setup guide. Button placement and setup prompts are not identical across models.

When a combined 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network causes trouble

Some routers combine both bands under one network name or automatically steer devices between them. Wyze says Band Steering, Smart Connect, or a Single SSID can interfere with a camera finding or pairing to the intended 2.4 GHz band. These are possible causes, not proof that every gateway or mesh system will have a problem.

If setup fails after checking the phone’s connection and credentials, try one of these temporary router changes if available:

  • Give the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands separate network names, connect the phone to the 2.4 GHz name, and retry setup.
  • Temporarily disable 5 GHz, complete setup, then turn 5 GHz back on.

Router controls and menus differ by model, so consult the router maker or internet provider for the right setting. Wyze says its Mesh Router and Mesh Router Pro merge the bands and cannot be split, but a Wyze Cam can still connect to those systems. See Wyze’s dual-band router troubleshooting guidance.

  • Confirm the phone is on 2.4 GHz. If the router shows separate names, the one without “5G,” “5g,” “5GHz,” or “5” is generally the 2.4 GHz network. Router owners can choose custom names, so verify in the router settings if the label is unclear.
  • Recheck the SSID and password. Make sure you selected the intended network. Passwords are case-sensitive; check for accidental spaces at the beginning or end.
  • Confirm power and setup mode. Check the camera’s power connection and follow the indicator and SETUP instructions for that exact model.
  • Retry the app and device. Restart the phone and camera, force-close and reopen the app, then try setup again. Wyze’s general connection guidance also suggests forgetting and reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network if necessary; the steps for doing that depend on your phone’s operating system.
  • Review router security and band controls. Confirm WPA/WPA2 security and check whether band steering or a combined network name is affecting setup.

Wyze’s general checklist is in “My camera is not connecting to the network”; Cam v4 has additional model-specific setup troubleshooting.

If a connected camera goes offline

A camera that connected successfully but later drops offline may have a different problem from a failed initial pairing. Check the app’s permissions and the camera’s power, confirm it is using the intended Wi-Fi network, and try moving it closer to the router. Wyze also recommends rebooting the router and power-cycling the camera. Some faults and recovery steps depend on the model and firmware; consult the relevant device support page.

Check upload capacity, not just download speed

Video streaming depends on the connection’s upload capacity. Wyze recommends a minimum upload speed of 1–2 Mbps for SD video and 4–7 Mbps for HD. These are Wyze’s stated guidance, not independent test results; the page does not state a publication year. Run a speed test near the camera at different times of day, since available upload bandwidth can vary.

Do you need different Wi-Fi equipment?

Not necessarily. Wyze’s troubleshooting guidance starts with the network band, security, credentials, signal, app, and camera power. It does not establish that a new router, extender, camera, or power adapter is generally required. Consider equipment changes only after identifying a specific limitation—for example, a router that cannot provide a suitable network, weak coverage where the camera is installed, or faulty power hardware.
