Bokeh Game Studio is the Japanese developer founded on August 13, 2020, by Keiichiro Toyama, Kazunobu Sato, and Junya Okura. Its debut release, Slitterhead, became available worldwide on November 8, 2024. Bokeh has described ambitions for a broader, more diverse slate and for helping younger creators, but its official material does not name a second game. The clearest current activity is continued Slitterhead promotion, including a limited AVATARIUM experience at participating locations in Japan in 2026.

Who founded Bokeh Game Studio?

Bokeh Game Studio was established on August 13, 2020, by three industry veterans: Keiichiro Toyama, Kazunobu Sato, and Junya Okura. The date appears in Bokeh’s fifth-anniversary notice, while the studio’s English website presents the company as a developer founded by Toyama.

Toyama is identified by the studio as Bokeh’s founder, CEO, and Creative Director. Bokeh’s biography associates him with Silent Hill, the Siren series, and the Gravity Rush series. Those credits explain why the new studio attracted attention, but Bokeh is a separate company rather than a continuation of any earlier publisher or team.

Sato and Okura are listed alongside Toyama as co-founders. Bokeh’s official archive credits Okura as Game Director on Slitterhead, with responsibility for the game’s overall design and technical direction. That distinction matters: Toyama leads the studio creatively, while Okura is specifically credited with directing the debut game.

  • Thrilling Combat Using the Power of Blood
  • An Original New Offering from Two Industry Titans
  • Day 1 Edition contains a soundtrack CD, 100pg+ artbook, and sticker sheet with the game in a custom box

The founding date also gives useful context for the studio’s output. Bokeh was formed in August 2020, announced its first project publicly with a teaser at The Game Awards in 2021, and did not release that project until November 2024. A small, young studio should therefore not be judged by the number of releases it has produced in the same way as a long-established publisher with multiple teams.

What does the name “Bokeh” mean?

The studio says its name comes from the photographic expression bokeh and Toyama’s interest in the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. In photography, bokeh describes the way out-of-focus areas are rendered, often as soft shapes or light. Bokeh’s explanation emphasizes that the effect was once treated as a flaw but later became an intentional artistic technique recognized internationally.

This is the company’s explanation for choosing the name, not a claim that Bokeh Game Studio invented the photographic term. The idea fits the studio’s stated interest in distinctive design and world-building: an imperfection can become part of an artistic language when it is used deliberately.

Bokeh’s public statements also describe a desire for greater creative freedom, a more varied range of future projects, and opportunities for younger creators. These are statements about the studio’s direction and values, not a list of announced games. They also should not be read as proof that a particular unannounced project exists.

What games has Bokeh Game Studio made?

Slitterhead is Bokeh’s debut game

Slitterhead is the first released title from Bokeh Game Studio. The project was first announced with a teaser at The Game Awards in 2021, according to Bokeh’s About material. Bokeh later announced a worldwide release date of November 8, 2024; the studio repeated that date in its anniversary notice.

Because it is the company’s debut, there is not yet a multi-game Bokeh catalog to compare. References to “Bokeh games” currently mean Slitterhead and related products or experiences rather than several separate releases. A trailer, demo, soundtrack, physical bundle, or promotional event should not be counted as another game.

The official archive identifies Junya Okura as Slitterhead’s Game Director. His credited remit covers the game’s overall design and technical direction, while Toyama’s studio role is Founder, CEO, and Creative Director. This is the clearest division of credited responsibilities in Bokeh’s official team and archive information.

The worldwide date is a release date, not a claim about every local storefront having identical timing, language support, or physical stock. Buyers should still check the platform and territory on the store page they intend to use.

The December 2024 demo

Bokeh announced a Slitterhead demo in December 2024. The demo includes the first chapter, including the tutorial, and the announcement says save data can carry over to the full version. That makes it useful for testing the opening before committing to the complete game, while preserving progress if the feature remains supported on the relevant storefront.

The announcement is historical evidence of what Bokeh offered at the time. Storefront policies and regional listings can change, so the notice should not be read as a guarantee that the demo remains downloadable everywhere today. Availability can also differ between platforms and territories.

What is in the Japanese PS5 Slitterhead Maniac Edition?

Bokeh’s official Slitterhead product page documents a Japan-specific PlayStation 5 physical bundle called the Maniac Edition. Its contents are:

Item What Bokeh documents
Game The PlayStation 5 version of Slitterhead
Art book The Art of Slitterhead, a setting-art book with commentary by Keiichiro Toyama
Soundtrack CD An original soundtrack CD containing 10 tracks
Packaging A special box
Stickers Sticker sheets included in the bundle

For collectors, the appeal is that the bundle combines the game with physical setting material, music, presentation packaging, and stickers. The art book is specifically described as a setting-art book with Toyama’s commentary, rather than simply a generic manual. The CD is also a physical item in the bundle, so it should not automatically be treated as a download code or as the complete soundtrack.

The edition is documented for Japan and PlayStation 5. Bokeh’s page does not establish that the same contents were sold in other countries, on other platforms, or through every retailer. If you are buying a listing outside Japan, verify the territory, language or region information, physical format, and the exact contents shown by the seller rather than assuming “Maniac Edition” means an identical package worldwide.

Retail listings can use shortened names or reuse stock images. Before paying a premium, compare the seller’s photographs and item list with the official description, confirm that the game disc and collector items are included, and check whether the box is new, complete, or previously opened. Price, inventory, and shipping are separate retail questions that Bokeh’s product page does not settle.

Do the 10-track CD and 67-track soundtrack refer to the same release?

No direct relationship is established in Bokeh’s announcements. The Maniac Edition page specifies a 10-track CD inside the Japanese bundle. Separately, Bokeh announced an official Slitterhead soundtrack described as containing 67 tracks, including in-game background music, vocal songs, and bonus tracks.

The official material does not explain whether the 67-track soundtrack is a separate physical product, a digital release, a larger edition, or a collection that includes the 10 tracks. Treat the numbers as descriptions of two different listings until Bokeh or a retailer provides a format and track-selection explanation. Do not infer that the Maniac Edition CD contains all 67 tracks.

This distinction matters when comparing collector packages. A listing that says “soundtrack included” may refer only to the 10-track CD documented for the Japanese PS5 bundle, while a listing for the 67-track soundtrack may describe a different product entirely. Confirm the format, territory, and track count in the specific listing.

What is Bokeh doing in 2026?

Limited AVATARIUM experience in Japan

Bokeh’s 2026 news archive lists a limited Slitterhead avatar experience using AVATARIUM at participating locations in Japan from September 16, 2026. The announced price is ¥800 per person. The notice also says the experience is not available at the AVATARIUM booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

AVATARIUM activity is a fan-facing experience built around creating or using an avatar; the announcement does not present it as a new game release or as downloadable Slitterhead content. Its ¥800 price is per person, and the notice does not establish that the same price, dates, or participating venues apply outside the listed Japanese sites.

What is Bokeh Game Studio working on next?

Bokeh has not officially identified a specific follow-up game in the material available from its website and news archive. The strongest statement about the future comes from Toyama’s careers message:

“While our first game “Slitterhead” was produced by the studio as a whole, my desire is for us to evolve into a studio that can produce a variety of titles with even more diversity.”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same statement describes supporting young creators with fresher creative minds as an important mission. That tells you what Toyama wants the studio to become, but it does not provide a title, genre, platform, release window, production status, or announcement date for a second project.

What is confirmed

  • Slitterhead is Bokeh’s first released game.
  • Toyama wants a more diverse range of titles over time.
  • The studio says supporting younger creators is part of its mission.
  • Bokeh continues to publish Slitterhead-related news and activities.

What is not confirmed

  • The name or existence of a second Bokeh game.
  • A release date, platform list, genre, or development stage for a follow-up.
  • Whether future work will be a direct sequel to Slitterhead.
  • Whether Toyama will personally direct the next project.

Statements about creative direction should therefore be read as plans and values, not as evidence that a particular game has entered production or been formally revealed. The absence of an announced title also means there is no responsible release-window speculation to report.

How to check reliable Bokeh information

Bokeh’s own pages are the best reference for dates, package contents, and announcements because the studio controls the underlying details. For the company overview, founder information, and archived notices, use the official English website and archive. The studio’s product information for Slitterhead, including the Japanese Maniac Edition contents, is on the official Slitterhead page.

For future announcements and event changes, consult the English news archive. Toyama’s statement about careers, creative variety, and younger developers appears on the official careers page. When using a retailer listing, compare its territory and contents with the official page, especially for the Japan-only bundle.

A practical verification checklist is short: confirm the date and platform, distinguish a news item from a product listing, read the territory information, and compare every included item rather than relying on a product name. For the 2026 AVATARIUM event, check the participating location and operating date. For the Maniac Edition, check that the listing explicitly names the PS5 game, art book, 10-track CD, special box, and stickers.

Which facts about Slitterhead are still unknown?

The official material covered here does not provide sales totals, revenue, development budget, profitability, or a measured commercial outcome for Slitterhead. It also does not establish a definitive review score or a complete cross-region inventory of every edition. Those figures should not be filled with estimates or unattributed aggregator data.

This limits what can responsibly be said about the game’s performance. You can state when it launched, that it was Bokeh’s debut, what the Japanese Maniac Edition contains, and what the studio has announced about its soundtrack, demo, and 2026 fan activity. You cannot use those facts to claim that the game was a commercial success, a failure, or evidence of a particular sequel plan.

Those are separate questions from the confirmed worldwide release date and should be checked against current store or retailer information.

Bottom line for readers following Bokeh

Bokeh Game Studio is a young Japanese developer led by Keiichiro Toyama, with Kazunobu Sato and Junya Okura as co-founders. Its only released game established so far is Slitterhead, released worldwide on November 8, 2024. The Japanese PS5 Maniac Edition is the notable collector package, and its 10-track CD should not be confused with the separately announced 67-track soundtrack. Bokeh’s next game remains unannounced: the studio has expressed a desire for more varied projects and stronger support for new creators, but no named follow-up is confirmed.
