Apple has not announced how many major iOS upgrades the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone Duo will receive, or when support for either model will end. The clearest published duration is a minimum five-year guarantee for security, corrective, and functionality updates in the EU product information sheet linked from Apple’s Ireland iPhone Duo page. That guarantee is not a promise of five major iOS upgrades.
What Apple has confirmed so far
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro with iOS 27, and its current iOS 27 compatibility guide lists the model. Apple also announced iPhone Duo with iOS 27; availability is scheduled to begin October 23, 2026. These facts confirm the phones’ launch software and current compatibility, not how long either will support later iOS releases.
Apple’s compatibility guide currently lists iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max; iPhone 12 through iPhone 18 families shown on the page; iPhone Air; and iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). The EU product information sheet linked from Apple’s Ireland iPhone Duo page states: “Minimum guaranteed availability of operating system security updates, corrective updates and functionality updates: 5 years.” This is the clearest stated minimum, but it applies to those update categories. The sheet does not say how many major iOS versions are included, give a calendar end date, or specify the point from which the five-year period is counted. Apple’s launch announcements do not provide a model-specific major-iOS upgrade count or end date for either phone. Software updates and repair service are different
Apple separately says service and parts are generally available for a minimum of five years after it last distributed a product. Longer periods may apply under law, or service may be available for up to seven years, subject to parts availability. This policy concerns hardware service and parts; it does not set the length of iOS upgrade or security-update support. Security patches may not track major iOS compatibility
Apple’s security-release records include updates for older iPhone generations. That history shows that security fixes can sometimes continue beyond a device’s place in the newest major iOS lineup, but it does not establish when updates for iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone Duo will stop. What this means if you are choosing between the phones
Both models were announced with iOS 27, but the available official information does not establish that they will have the same support end date. If you are in the EU, the product information sheet’s five-year minimum is a concrete update commitment for the categories it names. For major iOS upgrades, neither model has a published count or end date. iPhone Duo’s announced availability begins October 23, 2026, so its availability at any later time should be checked with Apple.

Apple CEO John Ternus called Duo “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original” in the September 9, 2026 announcement. That describes the product, not its software-support duration.
