The right LEGO display frame is sized by its usable interior—not its outside measurements. Measure the tallest minifigure and accessory, allow clearance between the back and front cover, then match the frame’s holding method (studs, compartments, or a loose custom layout) to how you want to arrange the collection. Finally, verify whether it can stand on a shelf, hang on your wall, or do both, and check the maker’s installation instructions for your surface.
Start with usable interior space, not the advertised outside size
External width and height tell you how much wall or shelf area a frame occupies. They do not tell you whether a helmet, backpack, plume, weapon or other accessory will touch the cover. A frame can have an attractive square footprint and still be too shallow for the figures you actually own.
Measure the complete figure you intend to display
- Build the tallest or deepest combination you plan to display, including headgear, handheld items, capes and backpacks.
- Measure its height from the bottom of the feet (or the surface on which it will stand) to the highest point.
- Measure its front-to-back depth with the largest accessory fitted. Include any pose that leans forward or extends a tool beyond the torso.
- Measure the width needed for the pose and leave side clearance if figures will be placed in individual compartments.
- Compare those measurements with the seller’s internal width, height and depth. If only external dimensions are given, ask the seller for the usable opening before ordering.
Depth is especially easy to misread. A specialist small-frame design states a 4 cm internal depth and says it is intended to accommodate larger minifigures and accessories. That is a maker specification, not an independent fit test. A separate Minifigures Display Series 26 listing reports a 25 × 25 cm external size and 4.5 cm depth; the listing does not establish how much of that depth is usable inside. Treat both figures as product-specific examples rather than a universal LEGO sizing rule.

Allow room for the cover and future changes
Do not size a frame to a figure that barely clears the front. A tight fit makes rearranging difficult and can press an accessory against plexiglass or a door. Leave practical clearance for removing the front, opening a compartment, or replacing a figure with one that has a taller accessory. If the manufacturer does not publish an internal measurement, obtain it in writing or choose a design with a clearly removable front and a stated interior depth.

Choose how the figures will be held
Display frames use different retention systems, and those systems affect both compatibility and layout freedom.
Studded plates for a fixed LEGO-style arrangement
The LEGO 8-Minifigure Display Case – Red 5006151 uses studded plates. Figures attach to studs rather than simply standing on a shelf, which helps keep a planned row in position when the case is moved. Its two levels are divided into individual transparent compartments with doors. This format suits a defined number of standard minifigures and gives each figure a separate opening.
Stud spacing can limit unusual poses. Check whether a cape, large shoulder piece or extended weapon reaches the neighboring compartment, and confirm that the plate arrangement supports the orientation you want. A studded base is also different from a flat, open cavity: you cannot assume that every custom model, brick-built character or nonstandard base will fit.

The Minifigures Display Series 26 frame/case listing says it can hold 12 figures or be configured with a custom layout. Its front is described as removable plexiglass, so the interior can be accessed as one open display rather than through separate small doors. The listing also says figures are not included. Confirm what, if anything, is supplied inside the frame—stud strips, a plate, adhesive mounts or a plain backing—before assuming figures will attach securely.

Count capacity conservatively
“Holds” can mean a manufacturer’s intended arrangement, not a guarantee for every pose. Count the number of figures only after accounting for accessories, spacing and the way each figure is retained. A case specified for eight figures and a frame specified for 12 are different formats; neither capacity should be transferred to the other product or treated as a general standard.
Balance protection with access
A cover protects a collection from dust and accidental contact, but the opening method determines how easy it is to clean or rearrange.
Individual transparent doors
The LEGO case uses separate transparent compartments with doors. Each figure can be reached without exposing the entire interior, which is useful when one character needs to be changed. The design also supports stacking. LEGO describes the case as suitable for placement on a desk or shelf or mounting on a wall, but the exact mounting hardware and surface requirements still need to be checked for the unit and your installation.
Removable plexiglass front
The Series 26 listing describes a removable plexiglass front. Removing one panel gives broad access for a custom arrangement and makes it easier to reposition several figures at once. It also means the panel must be removed and refitted carefully during cleaning or changes. Confirm how it is retained, where the panel is stored while open, and whether the frame has a positive closure that prevents it from sliding out when the frame is moved.

Neither description is a laboratory dust, impact or UV test. Treat the cover material and access method as design features, not as proof of a particular protection rating.

Match the mounting format to your location
Wall display
A listing that says “wall mountable” does not, by itself, prove that a frame is suitable for every wall. Identify the supplied hanging points, fasteners and maximum supported load, then match them to the wall material. Masonry, timber studs, plasterboard and tiled surfaces require different anchors or fixing methods. Keep the frame clear of doors, radiators and areas where a passing shoulder can strike it.

Use a level, check the fixing spacing, and confirm that the front can be opened without the frame colliding with the wall. If the product supplies no hardware specification, contact the seller instead of guessing an anchor size.

Shelf or desk placement
For a shelf, measure the available depth and check that the frame’s base or rear support is designed to stand independently. Keep the center of mass over the shelf and leave enough room to open doors or remove a plexiglass front. A freestanding frame can still be knocked over; do not treat “stands freely” as a statement that it is tip-proof.
Stacking
LEGO states that its display cases can be stacked to create customized storage. Stacking changes the load on the lowest case and raises the center of mass, so follow the manufacturer’s stacking guidance and keep the stack on a stable, level surface. Do not infer that another frame can be stacked merely because it has a similar shape.

LEGO’s Picture Frame 5006215 is described for common photo formats and may also display a minifigure collection. The regional Norway page consulted for this specification showed variants marked retired, sold out or out of stock. That status is time- and region-sensitive: verify the page for your country and the exact variant before planning a purchase. Do not assume that a product shown in LEGO’s catalog is currently sold everywhere.
Because the frame’s minifigure capacity and retention method are not stated in the available description, treat it as a photo-frame format that may be adaptable, not as a direct substitute for a purpose-built studded case.

A buying checklist that prevents the usual mistakes
- Define the collection. List standard figures, oversized characters, brick-built figures and accessories you intend to display together.
- Measure the worst case. Use the tallest, widest and deepest assembled figure, not the average minifigure.
- Separate external from internal measurements. Record both, but make the purchase decision from usable interior space.
- Confirm the retention system. Determine whether figures attach to studs, sit in separate compartments or require your own supports.
- Check access. Decide whether individual doors or a fully removable front better suits your cleaning and rearrangement routine.
- Choose the location first. Measure shelf depth or wall area and identify the wall material before selecting a hanging format.
- Request missing details. Ask for interior width, height, depth, cover clearance, hardware, supported load and the exact contents of the box.
- Verify current regional status. Stock, retirement labels and prices can change by country and over time.
Common fit and installation problems
The accessory touches the front
Re-measure with the accessory installed and compare the result with the usable depth, not the frame’s outside depth. Choose a deeper model, remove the accessory only if that matches your display goal, or use an open layout with more clearance.
The advertised capacity does not work for your poses
Individual compartments may be too narrow for broad shoulder pieces or angled weapons. Test one complete figure in the compartment dimensions before committing to the full collection. A custom-layout frame can solve spacing problems, but only if its backing provides a reliable way to keep figures in place.
The frame wobbles on a shelf
Check that the support is fully engaged, the shelf is level and the frame is not overhanging. Move it away from the shelf edge and reduce the height of a stacked arrangement. If the maker does not specify stability or anti-tip hardware, add an appropriate restraint rather than assuming the frame is secure.

The wall fixing does not match the wall
Stop installation and identify the substrate and the manufacturer’s required fastener. Replace an unsuitable plug or screw with one rated for that wall type and the loaded frame. When the product gives no load or hardware information, obtain it from the seller or use a different model with documented installation requirements.
Which format fits which display plan?
- Choose a studded compartment case when you want a defined number of standard figures, individual access and a LEGO-specific attachment method.
- Choose a removable-front custom frame when you need a flexible arrangement or want to rearrange several figures at once, provided the backing and retention method are suitable.
- Choose a shallow small frame only after confirming that the manufacturer’s stated internal depth clears your tallest accessory.
- Choose a photo-frame format when its dimensions and intended use suit your collection, but verify minifigure capacity, supports and current regional availability first.
The reliable purchase decision comes from a complete measurement, a known holding method and a mounting plan—not from a frame’s outside dimensions or a generic claim that it fits LEGO minifigures.
