Yes, you can stream PS5 games to a Steam Deck using Chiaki-ng, a community-made client for Sony’s PlayStation Remote Play service. The PS5 runs the game; the Deck receives the video stream and sends your controls back to the console. Chiaki-ng is not an official Sony app, and connection quality depends heavily on your network.
How PS5 streaming to Steam Deck works
PlayStation Remote Play lets a PS5 stream gameplay to a compatible client over a network. On Steam Deck, the practical route is Chiaki-ng, a Linux client maintained by a community project that grew out of Chiaki4Deck. Sony’s official Remote Play overview does not list Steam Deck as an official client, and the Chiaki4Deck project says it is not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
This is streaming, not installing PS5 games on the Deck: your console must be available and connected to the network. Remote Play can also be used away from home with a high-speed internet connection, but the sources do not establish a guaranteed bandwidth or latency threshold.

#1 Best Overall
- 1TB NVMe SSD
- 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
- Carrying case with removable liner
What you need before setting it up
- A Steam Deck and a PS4 or PS5 console. This guide focuses on PS5.
- A PlayStation Network account, Remote Play enabled on the console, and current PlayStation system software.
- Chiaki-ng, installed from a current distribution listed by the project. Its releases page lists Linux Flatpak (Flathub) and Linux AppImage options.
- About 200 MB of free storage, an estimate listed by the Chiaki4Deck project rather than an independently measured requirement.
- A stable network. The project recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and describes wired Ethernet for the console as ideal; these are recommendations, not guaranteed minimum specifications.
You do not need to buy a separate controller to try the basic setup: the Deck’s built-in controls can be used. A DualSense or DualShock 4 is optional.
Setup at a high level
Use the current Chiaki-ng release and maintained setup instructions for the exact install and console-registration steps. Available instructions and interface labels can change; the sources cited here do not establish a current menu-by-menu install, account, or PIN sequence, so do not rely on an older walkthrough for those details.
- Enable Remote Play on the PS5. Make sure the console is connected to the network and has current system software.
- Install Chiaki-ng on the Deck. Choose a current Linux distribution from the project’s releases and follow its maintained setup instructions.
- Register and connect to the console. Follow the project’s current instructions for finding or registering your PS5, then test the connection on your home network.
- Launch it from Steam Gaming Mode if desired. Use the project’s current guidance to add or launch the app there, then adjust stream quality or controls if needed.

Network choices and connection problems
For a more stable home stream
Keep the PS5 and Deck on a stable network. Prefer 5 GHz Wi-Fi where signal coverage is strong, and use wired Ethernet for the console if practical. The project does not say the Deck itself must be wired. No specific bandwidth or latency target is established, so a nominal internet speed alone cannot guarantee a smooth stream.

If the picture stutters or looks poor
- Lower the stream bitrate in Chiaki-ng.
- Check the console’s network signal and improve its connection if possible.
- Close other applications using substantial bandwidth.
These are project troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes.
If the PS5 is not discovered
- Confirm that both devices are on the same network for an in-home connection.
- Check the console’s IP address and confirm Remote Play is enabled.
- Try the project’s pairing-mode guidance if ordinary discovery does not work.
For away-from-home use, Chiaki4Deck mentions remote PSN connection mode and says port forwarding is not always needed in newer versions. That does not guarantee remote access will work without network configuration: router setups and software versions differ. Check current project release and setup notes rather than treating port forwarding as a default step.

Controls and optional DualSense features
The Deck’s integrated controls are enough for the basic streaming setup. Chiaki-ng documents Deck gyro support without extra setup, along with touchpad and touchscreen mappings and custom layouts. These options may need configuration to suit a game.
Controller extras vary by device and connection. The guide documents PS5 haptics on the Deck controller; DualSense haptics require a USB connection, while adaptive triggers can work with a DualSense over USB or Bluetooth. Some features require disabling Steam Input for the PlayStation controller, which can also remove access to certain Chiaki-ng shortcuts. Do not assume every extra works automatically in every game or configuration.

Sony warns that some games are incompatible with Remote Play. In particular, games requiring PS VR2, PS VR, or PlayStation Camera peripherals cannot be played this way. Sony also lists functions that cannot be used at the same time as Remote Play:

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
- Share Play
- Streaming games from PlayStation Plus Premium
- Blu-ray and DVD playback
- VR mode
- Music and video services
Wireless controller features may also be restricted. Available functions can depend on the content, console system software, and application version.
