If you want the original Nintendo 64 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the relevant subscription is Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Nintendo’s current US service overview places classic Nintendo 64 games in that tier, while the standard Nintendo Switch Online plan is not described as including the N64 library. Nintendo’s earlier Expansion Pack announcement named Ocarina of Time in its Nintendo 64 lineup, but that announcement is historical. Check the live catalog shown for your own Nintendo Account and region before paying.
US pricing listed by Nintendo is $49.99 per year for an individual Expansion Pack membership or $79.99 per year for a family membership covering up to eight Nintendo Accounts. A different product is also coming: Nintendo has announced a rebuilt Ocarina of Time edition for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. It is a separate game purchase, not the N64 version supplied through the membership library.

The short answer
There are two distinct ways to think about “buying Ocarina of Time” on a modern Nintendo system:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Original N64 version: access is tied to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, Nintendo’s higher membership tier for classic Nintendo 64 games. The US annual prices currently listed are $49.99 for one account or $79.99 for a family membership of up to eight accounts. Nintendo’s historical lineup announcement named Ocarina of Time, but you should confirm that it remains in the catalog available to your region and account.
- Rebuilt Switch 2 edition: Nintendo lists a separate release for November 5, 2026. It has overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, enhanced controls and modern camera movements. It requires Nintendo Switch 2 and is not included merely because you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online.
Start by deciding which version you actually want. If your priority is playing the original game through a subscription, verify the N64 listing first and then select Expansion Pack. If you want the rebuilt presentation and controls, wait for the separately sold Switch 2 edition and review its final store details when it launches.

- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a masterful improvement on one of the landmark releases in video game history.

For Nintendo’s current US description of the service, see the Nintendo Switch Online overview. The historical announcement that named the game is available in Nintendo’s Expansion Pack lineup announcement.
Which membership tier is relevant?
Expansion Pack is the N64 tier
Nintendo’s overview says “Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack” includes access to a selection of classic Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and SEGA Genesis games. That makes Expansion Pack the tier to investigate for the original N64 Ocarina of Time. The overview does not describe the base Nintendo Switch Online plan as providing the N64 library, so subscribing only to the base plan should not be treated as a way to obtain this game.
Catalog membership is not permanent ownership
With the N64 route, you are paying for membership access rather than purchasing a standalone copy of the game. Access therefore depends on an active eligible membership and on the title remaining available in the catalog for your region. Nintendo’s game-specific evidence for Ocarina of Time comes from the original Expansion Pack announcement, not a dated, region-by-region catalog confirmation. Treat the announcement as evidence that the game was part of the planned lineup, then use the current catalog displayed for your account as the final check.
Why the region check matters
Nintendo states that membership prices and game catalogs can vary by region and change over time. A title shown in a US announcement may not be offered identically in every country, and a catalog can be revised after an announcement. Before starting a recurring membership, search the current Nintendo Switch Online game library on your console or Nintendo Account and confirm that the N64 version is listed for your location.
Current US prices and what each option provides
The following prices are Nintendo-published US annual figures. They are a snapshot, not a guarantee of the price shown in another country or at a later date.
| Option | What you receive | Published US price or timing | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, individual | Expansion Pack benefits, including access to a selection of classic Nintendo 64 games | $49.99 USD per year | Confirm that Ocarina of Time is in the live catalog for your region before subscribing. |
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, family | Expansion Pack benefits for up to eight Nintendo Accounts | $79.99 USD per year | Confirm the current price, account eligibility and local catalog. |
| Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 | A separately sold rebuilt edition with announced presentation and control upgrades | Announced for November 5, 2026 | Requires Nintendo Switch 2; final details and retailer availability may change. |
The individual membership works out to about $4.17 per month when its $49.99 annual price is divided across 12 months. The family price is about $6.67 per month for the group as a whole; if eight eligible accounts use it, the arithmetic is about $10 per account for the year. Those are simple comparisons of the published annual prices, not separate monthly billing plans or a guarantee that every household will use all eight slots.
How to confirm the N64 game before you pay
Because the game-specific announcement is historical, confirmation should be part of your purchase process rather than an assumption.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Identify your Nintendo Account region. Catalogs and prices are regional, so check the account and console region you will actually use.
- Open the current Nintendo Switch Online catalog or membership information. Use the catalog presented on your console or Nintendo Account, not only an old article or launch announcement.
- Search for the Nintendo 64 version of Ocarina of Time. Make sure the listing refers to the classic N64 game, rather than the separately announced Switch 2 edition.
- Check the membership tier attached to the listing. The relevant tier is Expansion Pack. If the title is not shown as available to your account, do not purchase the membership solely for this game.
- Review the renewal price and account type. Select individual if one account needs access, or family if multiple eligible Nintendo Accounts will use the membership. Confirm the amount in your local currency at checkout.
- Subscribe only after the title and price are visible. Keep a record of the catalog listing and purchase date if you are making the decision close to a catalog or pricing change.
This process protects against the two most common mistakes: buying the base plan while expecting N64 access, and paying for Expansion Pack without checking whether the game is currently offered in your market.
Original N64 version versus the Switch 2 edition
The two products solve different needs. One is subscription access to a classic game; the other is a future, separately sold rebuild for new hardware.
| Question | N64 version through Expansion Pack | Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 |
|---|---|---|
| How do you get it? | Use an eligible Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, subject to the live catalog. | Buy the separate Switch 2 game. |
| Hardware | Access through Nintendo’s Nintendo 64 classic-game service on compatible Nintendo Switch systems. | Nintendo lists it as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. |
| Presentation | The classic N64 release as supplied in the service library; the cited materials do not promise the rebuilt presentation. | Overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue and symphonic orchestral music are announced. |
| Controls and camera | Use the controls and camera behavior provided by the classic-game version and service. | Enhanced controls and modern camera movements are announced. |
| Release status | Catalog availability must be checked for your account and region. | Announced for November 5, 2026; that date is after the October 2026 information used here. |
| Cloud-save note | Do not assume the classic service and the separate product have identical save features. | Nintendo lists Save Data Cloud support and says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for that cloud feature. |
Nintendo’s official Switch 2 product page describes the rebuilt edition as offering “completely overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, and symphonic orchestral music.” Read the official Switch 2 product page for the announced feature list, platform designation and release date. Nintendo also notes that some product details may not be finalized, so treat those details as announced specifications until launch.
Choose the right path for your situation
You want the original game at the lowest upfront commitment
Expansion Pack is the path to evaluate. Its individual US annual price is $49.99, and it gives you access to the broader Expansion Pack benefits rather than only one game. The trade-off is that your access is tied to an active membership and the title’s continued regional availability. Confirm the live listing first.
You share Nintendo Accounts in a household
The $79.99 US family membership covers up to eight Nintendo Accounts, so it can be less expensive per person than several individual memberships when all of the accounts are eligible and actually need access. Do not choose it solely because the headline price is lower than eight separate plans; compare it with the number of people who will use it and verify the account requirements shown at purchase.
You want modern audiovisual changes
The Switch 2 edition is the relevant product if rebuilt graphics, voiced scenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, enhanced controls and a modern camera are the deciding factors. It is not a substitute for an Expansion Pack subscription if you specifically want the N64 version, and subscribing does not turn into ownership of the Switch 2 release.
You do not yet own Nintendo Switch 2
Do not buy the announced edition expecting it to run as the N64 service game on an older system. Nintendo lists the rebuilt release as Switch 2 exclusive. For an existing Nintendo Switch system, investigate the Expansion Pack catalog instead and verify the title before paying.
What the subscription price does—and does not—tell you
- It is an annual figure. Nintendo’s cited US prices are $49.99 per year for individual and $79.99 per year for family, not monthly prices.
- It is not a universal price. Currency, taxes, promotions and regional pricing can differ. Confirm the amount displayed for your account.
- It covers a service tier, not a single entitlement. Expansion Pack includes a selection of classic systems and other benefits described by Nintendo; the price should be judged against the overall service you will use.
- It does not prove current game availability. The historical announcement confirms that Nintendo named Ocarina of Time in the N64 lineup at that time. Only the current catalog for your account can confirm present access.
- It does not set the Switch 2 game’s price. The supplied Nintendo product information establishes the announced release and features, but not a final purchase price in the cited material.
Save data and membership considerations
The announced Switch 2 product page lists Save Data Cloud support and says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for that cloud feature. This is a specific statement about the Switch 2 product page; it should not be expanded into a claim that every save behavior of the classic N64 service is identical. If cloud backup is important to you, read the save-data information attached to the exact version and account you plan to use.

For the N64 route, plan around continued membership access. If you allow the eligible membership to lapse, you should not assume that the service library remains playable as if you had bought a permanent standalone copy. Check Nintendo’s current account and service terms for the renewal, cancellation and access rules that apply in your region.

- Or the Master Quest edition with many bonus features
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistake: selecting the base Nintendo Switch Online plan
Fix: Look specifically for the “+ Expansion Pack” tier and its Nintendo 64 benefits. The current overview places classic N64 games in Expansion Pack, not in the base-plan description.
Mistake: treating an old lineup announcement as a live catalog
Fix: Search the current catalog attached to your console or Nintendo Account immediately before checkout. Catalogs can change and can differ by region.
Mistake: confusing the Switch 2 remake-style release with the N64 game
Fix: Check the platform label and product description. The announced Switch 2 edition is a separate game, exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, with rebuilt presentation and a November 5, 2026 release date.

A practical decision checklist
- Do you want the original N64 game or the rebuilt Switch 2 edition?
- Is your Nintendo Account set to the region whose catalog and price you checked?
- Does the current catalog show Ocarina of Time for your account?
- Are you selecting Expansion Pack rather than the base Nintendo Switch Online plan?
- Would an individual membership ($49.99 US per year) or a family membership ($79.99 US per year for up to eight accounts) match your actual users?
- If you are considering the Switch 2 edition, do you own Nintendo Switch 2 and can you wait for the announced November 5, 2026 release?
- Have you checked the current checkout price, renewal terms and any regional restrictions?
- If cloud saves matter, have you confirmed the save-data support for the exact version you intend to play?
Bottom line for buyers
For the original Ocarina of Time, verify the game in your local Nintendo Switch Online catalog and choose Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack—not the base plan. Nintendo’s US price snapshot is $49.99 per year for an individual or $79.99 per year for a family membership covering up to eight accounts. Because the game-specific listing comes from a historical announcement, catalog confirmation is the essential final step.
If what you want is Nintendo’s rebuilt presentation, wait for the separately sold Nintendo Switch 2 edition announced for November 5, 2026. It is a different product, requires Nintendo Switch 2 and is not included in the N64 membership library.
