There is no universally best first Soulslike on PS5. What “Soulslike” means when you are shopping
“Soulslike” is a useful store and community label, not a precise technical standard. It usually signals action combat in which opponents can punish careless timing, progress is earned through learning patterns, and death or failure is part of the intended loop. How to think about its challenge
PlayStation’s official Demon’s Souls FAQ says players will find conquering its “dark, hostile world” a challenge, while describing the combat and landscape as rewarding. That is promotional copy from the platform holder, not an independent difficulty test. It does establish the intended tone: this is not marketed as a relaxed action game.

Choose Demon’s Souls when you are willing to learn enemy behavior, accept failed attempts and treat progress as the result of observation and practice. Do not choose it solely because someone labels it the easiest or hardest option; the available evidence does not support that comparison.

The description does not provide a reliable cross-game difficulty score, frame-rate comparison or complete map-structure analysis, so do not infer those from the toolkit alone.

Some players group Black Myth: Wukong with Soulslikes; others regard it as an adjacent action RPG. The distinction is unsettled. For a purchase decision, ask a more useful question: do you want this game’s Journey to the West setting and flexible combat options? If yes, the label becomes secondary. The quotation does not establish that Elden Ring is easier or harder than Demon’s Souls or Black Myth: Wukong. Difficulty is affected by your familiarity with timing-based combat, the way you approach exploration and the choices you make during play. Treat forum anecdotes as personal experiences rather than a universal rating.
