The right gaming PC for Fortnite, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, or Apex Legends is the one that matches your games, resolution, graphics settings, and frame-rate target—not a machine advertised simply as a “gaming PC.” Start with each publisher’s current requirements, treat minimum specifications as a compatibility floor, and then verify the exact CPU, graphics card, RAM, storage, operating system, and upgrade options in the listing.
The published requirement pages do not predict the frame rate of a particular modern computer. Use them to eliminate unsuitable systems, then consult benchmarks for the exact CPU-and-GPU combination before paying for a performance target.
Set your performance target before comparing PCs
Shopping is much easier when you decide what “good enough” means first. Write down three choices:
- Resolution: 1080p, 1440p, or another display resolution.
- Graphics quality: low or competitive settings, medium, high, or a game-specific quality tier.
- Frame-rate target: a stable target appropriate to your monitor and the type of play you want.
A requirement page can tell you whether a computer is supported, but it cannot tell you that a particular system will hold a chosen frame rate at a chosen resolution. The same graphics card can behave differently depending on the processor, cooling, memory configuration, drivers, game updates, and settings. Treat any seller’s unverified FPS promise cautiously and look for an independent test of the exact hardware combination.

Check every game you intend to play
Fortnite, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, and Apex Legends publish different requirements. A computer that clears one game’s minimum may fail another game’s recommended tier. Open the live requirement page for every title you plan to install and compare the candidate system line by line.
| Game | Published memory figures | Published graphics figures | Storage or quality notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortnite | 8 GB minimum; 16 GB or higher recommended and for Epic Quality Presets | Epic Quality Presets: NVIDIA RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or equivalent, with 8 GB VRAM or higher | Recommended and Epic Quality Presets specify an NVMe SSD. See the current Fortnite PC system requirements page for the complete CPU, operating-system, and other details. |
| PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS | 8 GB minimum; 16 GB recommended | Minimum: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2 GB or AMD Radeon R7 370 2 GB. Recommended: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 4 GB | Compare the listing with the current PUBG requirements page for processor, operating-system, and storage details. |
| Apex Legends | 6 GB minimum; 8 GB recommended | Recommended: AMD Radeon R9 290 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 | The detailed figures here come from the Apex Legends Epic Games Store page. Check the live page for the complete CPU, operating-system, and storage requirements. |
The figures above are publisher or store specifications, not benchmark results. Requirements can change, so revisit the linked pages immediately before buying. The Electronic Arts page is another official reference for Apex Legends requirements: Requisitos de Apex Legends para PC.
Understand what minimum and recommended mean
Minimum specifications are a compatibility floor. They generally mean the game is expected to launch under the publisher’s stated conditions; they do not promise high settings, a steady frame rate, or a smooth experience in every match.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsEpic Games states on its Fortnite support page: “If you just meet the minimum system requirements, Fortnite will run on your machine, but probably not on the highest settings.” That is the practical distinction buyers often miss. A minimum-tier GPU may be acceptable for testing whether a game starts, while a recommended-tier or higher component gives you more room for visual quality and future updates.
PUBG separates minimum and recommended hardware, and Fortnite adds an Epic Quality Presets tier above its ordinary recommended specification. Do not describe the lowest GPU in a game’s table as a high-settings recommendation. If you want Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets, compare the entire machine against that tier, including the stated 8 GB-or-higher VRAM and 16 GB-or-higher system memory.

How much RAM do you need for battle royale games?
Use the game with the highest requirement among your intended titles as the starting point, then leave room for Windows, launchers, voice chat, browser tabs, and background tools. The published game figures are:
| Game | Minimum RAM | Recommended RAM | Higher quality tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortnite | 8 GB | 16 GB or higher | Epic Quality Presets: 16 GB or higher |
| PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS | 8 GB | 16 GB | No separate higher-memory figure stated in the cited table |
| Apex Legends | 6 GB | 8 GB | No separate higher-memory figure stated in the cited table |
These numbers are game-specific, not a universal rule. For a new desktop intended to cover all three games, 16 GB is the clearest published recommended level because it matches Fortnite’s recommended figure and PUBG’s recommended figure. Check whether the advertised capacity is installed as one module or a matched pair, and whether the motherboard has free slots for expansion. Do not confuse system RAM with graphics-card VRAM: Fortnite’s Epic tier separately calls for a GPU with 8 GB VRAM or higher.

Why the graphics card deserves the closest inspection
All three requirement sets name graphics hardware, and Fortnite’s tiers show how dramatically the target can change with image quality. A system that only clears a basic minimum may have little headroom for higher textures, effects, or future patches.
Compare the exact GPU model and memory
Read the complete model name, not just a family label. “RTX,” “Radeon,” or “GTX” by itself is insufficient: different generations and memory sizes can perform very differently. For PUBG, the cited minimum examples are a GTX 960 with 2 GB or Radeon R7 370 with 2 GB, while the recommended examples rise to a GTX 1060 with 3 GB or Radeon RX 580 with 4 GB. For Fortnite Epic Quality Presets, the published examples are RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT, equivalent hardware, and at least 8 GB of VRAM.
Separate compatibility from visual quality
Do not infer that a minimum card delivers a particular FPS or that a recommended card guarantees a specific monitor refresh rate. The official pages do not provide comparable tests on current retail PCs. Use the requirement tier to decide whether a listing is worth benchmarking, then verify the exact card in current, independent tests at your planned resolution and settings.

Storage: capacity, type, and what an SSD can—and cannot—do
Fortnite lists an NVMe SSD for its recommended and Epic Quality Presets specifications. An NVMe drive can also make Windows and game loading feel faster than an older mechanical drive, but storage type is not a substitute for a capable CPU or GPU.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Epic’s Performance Mode guidance says an SSD can help older machines reduce hitches and stutters. The article does not establish a universal average-FPS increase, so do not buy a drive on the assumption that it will create a fixed frame-rate gain. Confirm the drive’s capacity, interface, and whether the advertised capacity is usable after the operating system and recovery files. Leave free space for game updates rather than filling the drive completely.
CPU, operating system, and platform checks
The game pages publish processor and operating-system requirements alongside memory and graphics requirements. Because those exact CPU figures can change, open the current page and compare the candidate’s full processor model, architecture, and operating-system edition rather than relying on a generic “modern CPU” description.
- Processor: record the exact model and compare it with the game’s minimum and recommended CPU lines. A fast graphics card paired with an inadequate processor can still limit frame-time consistency, especially in busy matches.
- Operating system: verify the installed edition and 64-bit status where the game page specifies them. Confirm that the seller supplies a legitimate, activated installation and that required updates can be installed.
- Drivers and firmware: plan to install current graphics drivers and motherboard firmware from the hardware vendors after setup. Driver support is part of practical compatibility even when a listing only advertises the component names.
- Cooling and power: inspect the power-supply capacity, connectors, case airflow, and cooler. The requirement pages do not certify a particular prebuilt’s thermal design, so these details must be checked on the actual listing.
A step-by-step method for comparing a candidate PC
- List your games. Write Fortnite, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, Apex Legends, and any other titles you expect to play during the computer’s useful life.
- Open each official requirement page. Use the Fortnite support page, the PUBG Epic Games Store page, and the Apex Legends Epic Games Store page linked above. Record minimum and recommended CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and operating-system entries.
- Choose your target tier. Decide whether you are checking basic compatibility, recommended settings, or Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets. Do not mix a minimum GPU with a recommended-memory claim and call the resulting machine “recommended.”
- Copy the candidate’s exact specifications. Capture the full CPU and GPU model, VRAM, installed RAM and module layout, drive type and capacity, operating system, power supply, and available expansion slots.
- Build a fit matrix. Mark each component as below minimum, at minimum, at recommended, or above the relevant game tier. A single below-minimum component can invalidate the comparison.
- Check the display target. Verify that independent benchmarks test the exact hardware at your chosen resolution, quality preset, and frame-rate target. The requirement pages alone cannot supply this result.
- Verify the physical configuration. Ask for photos or a manufacturer specification sheet when the listing omits the power supply, motherboard, cooling, RAM channels, or drive interface.
- Review upgrade options. Confirm free memory slots, supported processor generations, graphics-card clearance, power-supply headroom, and spare storage connectors. An upgrade path is useful only if the case and board can actually accept the parts.
- Recheck the live requirements before checkout. Publishers can update requirements and quality tiers after the date shown on a listing.
Fortnite Performance Mode: a setting, not a hardware guarantee
Fortnite’s Performance Mode is selectable through the in-game settings menu. Epic describes it as trading visual quality for lower memory use and a lighter CPU and GPU load, and says it may help older machines. The official article calls the mode an alpha feature in its historical description and does not promise that every under-spec computer becomes suitable.
Use Performance Mode as a controlled settings choice after checking the requirements, not as a reason to ignore them. If you need clearer visuals, higher texture quality, or Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets, compare against the higher hardware tier instead. Epic’s historical explanation is available in FORTNITE PERFORMANCE MODE BOOSTS PC FPS. Fortnite’s PC visual-tier discussion also changed over time; the 2021 visual-upgrade announcement is archived at Fortnite on PC to Get Upgraded Visuals in v17.00, so do not treat that announcement as a current benchmark.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying from a single generic label
“Gaming PC” does not identify the GPU, VRAM, processor, or memory configuration. Require a complete parts list and compare it with every game’s table.
Using a minimum requirement as a performance promise
Minimum means the game is expected to run under stated conditions, not that it will run at high settings or a particular FPS. Treat minimum hardware as a fallback tier.
Ignoring VRAM
System RAM and VRAM are separate. Fortnite’s Epic Quality Presets call for at least 8 GB of VRAM, so a machine with 16 GB system RAM can still miss that graphics requirement.
Assuming an SSD fixes weak hardware
An SSD can reduce loading delays and may reduce hitches on older systems, but the cited guidance does not establish a universal average-FPS improvement. Do not trade away the required GPU or CPU to obtain a faster drive.
Comparing prices before defining the target
There is no meaningful “best value” comparison until you know whether you are targeting basic compatibility, recommended settings, or Epic Quality Presets at a specified resolution. Current prices and configurations vary by region and seller; verify them on the actual listing.

Failing to check the power supply and upgrade path
A named graphics card is not enough if the power supply lacks the required connectors or the case cannot provide airflow and clearance. Treat omitted power-supply and motherboard information as a reason to ask questions or choose a better-documented system.
Decision examples without inventing FPS claims
You mainly play Apex Legends
Start with Apex’s 6 GB minimum and 8 GB recommended memory figures, then compare the listed recommended GPU—Radeon R9 290 or GTX 970—with the exact card in the candidate system. Check the current CPU and operating-system lines before deciding that the machine is suitable. If you also plan to play Fortnite or PUBG, use those games’ higher requirements instead of stopping at Apex’s table.
You want one PC for all three games
Use the strictest relevant tier across the three games. The published memory figures point to 16 GB as the practical recommended baseline for Fortnite and PUBG, while the graphics target depends on your chosen settings. For Fortnite Epic Quality Presets, compare against an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT equivalent with at least 8 GB VRAM, not against a PUBG minimum card.
You have an older desktop and want to extend its life
First check whether its CPU, GPU, RAM, operating system, and storage meet the current minimums. Fortnite Performance Mode may lower memory use and CPU/GPU load, and an SSD may reduce hitches or stutters on an older machine, but neither changes an unmet hardware requirement. Upgrade only after confirming the motherboard, power supply, case, and cooling can support the replacement parts.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Every intended game has been checked against its current official requirements page.
- Your resolution, graphics-quality level, and frame-rate target are written down.
- The candidate’s exact CPU and GPU models are documented.
- GPU VRAM is recorded separately from system RAM.
- Installed RAM meets the chosen tier and can be expanded if needed.
- The storage drive’s type and capacity are stated; Fortnite’s recommended tier calls for NVMe SSD.
- The operating-system edition and activation status are clear.
- The power supply, cooling, motherboard, case clearance, and upgrade slots are identified.
- Independent benchmarks exist for the exact hardware at your target settings, or you have accepted that performance is unverified.
- You will recheck the publisher pages immediately before purchase because requirements can change.
Bottom line
Buy against a written, game-by-game checklist. Minimum requirements answer “will it launch?”; recommended and higher quality tiers are better starting points for a comfortable experience, but they still do not guarantee a named FPS. For a multi-game desktop, verify the strictest GPU, VRAM, RAM, CPU, storage, and operating-system requirements among your titles, then confirm real-world performance with current tests of the exact hardware and settings you plan to use.
