Before buying Destiny 2 content, identify the exact campaign, raid, dungeon, or Reward Pass you want, then check whether it is included in the current Destiny 2: The Collection listing or requires a separate add-on. The free game already includes the Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns, but many later campaigns and activities still require paid entitlements. Also check platform access and Cross Save details: ownership does not always transfer between platforms, and Dungeon Keys have specific restrictions.
There is an important change to the value calculation: Bungie says Destiny 2 will receive no planned live-service content updates after June 9, 2026, though it may still issue stability hotfixes. Treat a purchase as access to existing content, not as a promise of future planned releases. Bungie’s available-content guide and the live platform storefront are the best places to verify what an option includes and what it costs in your region.
Start with the content you want to play
Destiny 2’s purchase options are a mix of campaigns, expansion-specific activities, content packs, Reward Passes, and Dungeon Keys. A bundle can include several of these, but the name alone is not enough to tell whether it contains the particular entitlement you need. Check the itemized contents before paying, especially if you are buying only to access one dungeon or raid.

It lists The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, The Edge of Fate, and Renegades as paid campaigns; introductory missions are available to free players. Other activities tied to paid content can still have ownership requirements, so a free introductory mission does not mean the full campaign or every related activity is unlocked.

- Expansion I: Curse of Osiris
- Expansion II: Warmind
- Destiny 2: Forsaken
That free baseline is useful when comparing editions: do not pay for an item merely because its title sounds like the next step in the game’s story. First check whether the campaign or activity is already available to you. Conversely, access to an introductory mission should not be mistaken for ownership of the rest of a paid campaign. The distinction to verify is the entitlement for the particular content you plan to play.
Make a short wish list first
- Write down the campaign or expansion activities you want access to.
- For each dungeon, check whether access is included with the product you are considering or requires a Dungeon Key.
- For each raid, check the expansion or other entitlement Bungie specifies.
- Compare that list with content you already own on the platform you intend to use.
This keeps a large collection from looking like a better deal simply because it contains more items. If you want only one activity, the relevant question is whether the least expensive available option includes its required entitlement—not how many other items a bundle advertises. If you want several campaigns and activities, then the bundle may be worth comparing against separate purchases, but only after you subtract items you already own.
What Bungie lists in The Collection
Bungie’s Destiny 2: The Collection listing presents a broad set of expansions and add-ons. Its current itemization should be checked at the time of purchase because storefront contents and availability can change.
| Listing group | Items shown by Bungie |
|---|---|
| Expansions and Reward Passes | Renegades and two Reward Passes; The Edge of Fate and two Reward Passes; The Final Shape; Lightfall; The Witch Queen |
| Content packs | 30th Anniversary Pack; Beyond Light Pack; Shadowkeep Pack; Forsaken Pack |
| Dungeons listed | Shattered Throne; Pit of Heresy; Grasp of Avarice; Duality; Spire of the Watcher; Ghosts of the Deep; Warlord’s Ruin; Vesper’s Host; Sundered Doctrine; Equilibrium |
| Raids listed | Last Wish; Garden of Salvation; Deep Stone Crypt; Vow of the Disciple; Root of Nightmares; Salvation’s Edge; The Desert Perpetual |
The same listing notes that the Vault of Glass, Crota’s End, and King’s Fall raids, and the Prophecy dungeon, are available to all players. It also says Dungeon Keys provide access to specified dungeons. That distinction matters: a raid or dungeon appearing in a collection’s feature list should not be taken to mean every similar activity in the game has the same ownership rule.
The list is a useful inventory, not a substitute for reading the product description. A listed activity may be presented as part of the Collection, while access to a specific dungeon is tied to a Dungeon Key. Check which items the actual offer includes and whether it names the key or entitlement required for your target activity. The wording on a current storefront listing is more useful than relying on an old edition name or on what another player purchased in a previous release.
Bungie says the Collection’s components can also be acquired separately through a storefront of the player’s choice. The individual items and their prices can vary by storefront, and the Collection is not necessarily the cheapest route if you want only a subset. Compare the exact items and final checkout prices rather than assuming a bundle always saves money. If you already own one or more components, compare what remains useful to you, not the nominal size of the package.
How to choose between a standalone expansion, add-ons, and the Collection
- Choose the activities. Identify the campaign, dungeon, raid, pack, or Reward Pass you need. A campaign and its associated activity entitlements may not be interchangeable.
- Check the live product description. On the platform where you plan to play, open the product details and confirm each desired item is named as included. For a Dungeon Key, confirm the specific dungeon or key entitlement.
- Remove content you already own from the comparison. A bundle can contain duplicates from your perspective if you already have some of its expansions or packs. Compare the remaining items you would actually use.
- Compare standalone and bundle prices at checkout. Storefront, region, platform, and current availability affect the final price. No single universal price applies across them.
- Check account and platform behavior. Verify that the purchase is tied to the account and platform you expect, and read the Cross Save caveat below before buying a bundle that includes a Dungeon Key.
- Factor in the game’s update status. Since Bungie says there will be no planned live-service content updates after June 9, 2026, base the decision on the content available to you, not on anticipated future planned updates.
For a single campaign, compare the standalone expansion against any larger offer that explicitly includes it. For one dungeon, start with the dungeon’s access requirement and compare a separate key with any bundle that includes that key. For a mixed wish list—say, several campaigns plus specific dungeons—make a line-by-line list and compare the total checkout price for the matching items. There is no universal price or claim that one format is always best; the live listing and your own library determine the answer.

Before pressing purchase, check four details together: the itemized content, the platform account making the purchase, whether the item is a platform-bound license or an account-travelling key, and the final amount charged in your region. These are separate questions. A low listed price does not help if the offer omits the activity you want or the entitlement is attached to a different platform account than the one you use.
Dungeon Keys: separate purchase and access rules
A Dungeon Key is an entitlement for specified dungeons, and it may be included with an expansion Deluxe Edition or sold separately. Bungie’s Purchased Destiny Add-Ons guide describes separate purchase through Eververse, Hawthorne in the Tower, or the dungeon’s node on the Destinations map. It gives a price of 2,000 Silver for the key described in that guide. Because the article’s examples and names may reflect older releases, check the current dungeon listing and your platform’s checkout price rather than treating that figure or route as guaranteed for every current key.
If you are asking whether you can buy only the keys on a particular console, the practical answer is to inspect the in-game purchase route and that console’s live storefront. Bungie’s guidance describes keys as separately purchasable, but the available route and exact current product should be confirmed in the account and platform you use.
Do not infer from a Deluxe Edition label alone that a key for the particular dungeon you want is included. Check the edition’s itemization for the key or the named dungeon, then compare it with the separate-key option available in your game. If you already own the expansion but not its dungeon entitlement, the relevant comparison is the separate key against any current offer that explicitly supplies that missing access—not the full expansion price by default.
- Bungie says Dungeon Keys cannot be game shared.
- Keys can travel with an account through Cross Save, subject to the bundle-related warning below.
- Specific raid and dungeon activities still require their corresponding expansion or Dungeon Key, even after planned live-service updates end.
The rule against game sharing is particularly important in a household where one person expects another account to inherit access. Do not assume a key works like a shared console license. Confirm which account purchased or acquired it, and plan to play on that account. For other platform licensing questions, consult the current Bungie add-on guidance and storefront terms rather than treating Cross Save as a purchase-sharing feature.
Cross Save and platform licenses: check before you log in
Cross Save lets you use a shared Destiny account across supported platforms, but it does not mean every DLC license transfers. Bungie specifically warns about Dungeon Keys purchased as part of expansion bundles. If you are moving between platforms, activate Cross Save fully before logging into Destiny 2 on the platform where that expansion-bundle key was purchased; Bungie warns that logging in first may cause the key to be lost. Review the current instructions in the add-ons support guide before changing your setup.
Keep these two questions separate: “Can I use my Destiny account on this platform?” and “Does this platform have the license for the content I bought elsewhere?” Cross Save addresses account access, not a blanket transfer of every platform purchase. Confirm each desired expansion or add-on’s platform ownership behavior before relying on it across devices.

The order of operations matters for the particular bundle-key warning. If the key came with an expansion bundle, follow Bungie’s setup guidance and finish activating Cross Save before logging in on the platform where you bought that bundle. Do not treat the warning as a general statement that every key is lost whenever a player changes platforms; it is a specific caveat tied to keys acquired as part of expansion bundles. Check the support article for the current conditions and instructions.

For a purchase made on one platform and play on another, verify access for each desired item before checkout. A shared character/account does not by itself prove that a second platform owns the same expansion or pack. Likewise, a key that Bungie says can travel with an account is not the same thing as a guarantee that every add-on license is portable. When in doubt, confirm the distinction in Bungie’s support documentation before changing platforms or buying a second copy.
Silver: what it buys and what does not transfer
Silver is Destiny 2 currency purchased with real money through platform marketplaces or Eververse and used for Eververse items. Bungie’s Silver Purchases Guide lists marketplace support for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store. Silver balances do not transfer between Destiny 1 and Destiny 2, which are separate releases.
Do not use a Silver amount as a universal cash price: the marketplace, region, and current platform listing determine what you pay. For a Dungeon Key or other item offered for Silver, verify the final amount and purchase availability in the game or storefront you will use.
Silver is not itself a content bundle or a substitute for checking an expansion’s contents. If an entitlement is offered through an in-game Silver route, look at the specific current item and amount before purchasing currency. The 2,000 Silver figure in Bungie’s add-on support guidance applies to the key described there; the guide’s examples may be older, so it should not be presented as a guaranteed current price for every key. Check the live purchase screen.

Also distinguish Silver balances between Destiny releases. Bungie says Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 balances do not transfer between releases. If you play both, do not assume currency bought for one game is available in the other. For Destiny 2, use one of the marketplace options Bungie lists and review the platform’s purchase details, since prices and availability are not universal across region and storefront.
What the June 9, 2026 update announcement means for a purchase
In its Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph and Update 9.7.0 Support Guide, Bungie says: “Following the release of Update 9.7.0 on June 9, 2026, Destiny 2 will no longer receive planned live-service content updates.” Bungie says it may still release hotfixes for game health and stability. Its guide also says content available as of Update 9.5.6.3 and content added in Update 9.7.0 will be available on and after June 9, 2026.

This announcement changes what a buyer should expect from a purchase: evaluate the existing campaign and activity access, rather than assuming a purchase is a ticket to future planned live-service content. It does not mean paid activities automatically become free or that ownership checks disappear. Bungie states that access to specific raids and dungeons continues to require the corresponding expansion or Dungeon Key.
In practical terms, a buyer can still evaluate whether the currently listed campaigns, packs, raids, and dungeons are worth the asking price. But the purchase decision should not depend on a planned stream of new live-service content after the stated date. Bungie’s allowance for possible stability hotfixes is narrower: a possible hotfix is not the same as a promise of future planned content. Check Bungie’s support guide for the exact status language and the live listing for what remains available.

Bungie’s guide says specific raid and dungeon access continues to require the corresponding expansion or Dungeon Key. So do not assume that all content becomes free because planned updates ended, or that buying a collection removes an ownership check for an activity not included in it. Match the required entitlement to the activity first.
If purchased content does not appear
Start by confirming you are signed into the correct platform account and that the purchase completed in that platform’s store. Then use Bungie’s Accessing and Restoring Licenses to Destiny Content guide for the platform-specific license restoration steps and support route. Restoring a license can address a missing entitlement, but it cannot make a license transfer to a platform where it was not purchased.
- Check the storefront transaction history for the purchasing account.
- Confirm the item is available for the platform and edition you bought.
- Use the platform’s license-restoration path in Bungie’s guide if the transaction is complete but the game does not recognize the entitlement.
- If the issue concerns an expansion-bundle Dungeon Key and Cross Save, consult Bungie’s add-on instructions before further platform logins.
Keep the receipt or transaction record handy while troubleshooting, and compare its product name with the content you expected. A bundle title may not tell you whether a separate key or pass was part of that specific offer, so check the receipt and the listing rather than assuming the activity was included. Bungie’s license guide is the source for platform-specific restoration steps; use its directions for the platform on which the purchase was made.

- Content: Have you identified the exact campaign, pack, Reward Pass, raid, or dungeon you want?
- Free access: Have you checked whether the Shadowkeep or Beyond Light campaign, or one of the named free raids or Prophecy, already covers what you plan to play?
- Entitlement: Does the live listing explicitly include the desired item, and does the dungeon require a separate key?
- Price: Have you compared the current standalone, add-on, or Collection prices at checkout in your platform and region?
- Existing ownership: Have you removed expansions and packs you already own from your value comparison?
- Account setup: If you use Cross Save and the product includes a Dungeon Key, have you followed Bungie’s activation warning before logging in on the purchase platform?
- Expectations: Are you buying for content already available, rather than expecting planned live-service updates after June 9, 2026?
These checks are more reliable than choosing by bundle size or by a remembered price. Product contents, separate purchase routes, and storefront prices are all details to verify in the current official listing and your platform’s checkout flow.

Which Destiny 2 campaigns are free to play?
Bungie’s June 2026 available-content guide says the Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaign stories are available to all players. Introductory missions for The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, The Edge of Fate, and Renegades are also available to free players, but that does not unlock those full paid campaigns or every related activity.

Can I buy just a Dungeon Key, including on Xbox?
Bungie’s add-on guide describes separate Dungeon Key purchases through Eververse, Hawthorne in the Tower, or a dungeon node on the Destinations map, and gives 2,000 Silver for the key described there. Since examples and prices may be older, check the current in-game route and your platform’s live listing to confirm the available option and final price.
Does Cross Save transfer all my Destiny 2 expansions and add-ons?
No. Cross Save lets you use a shared Destiny account across supported platforms, but Bungie warns that not every DLC license transfers. Check the ownership behavior for each add-on and platform before relying on Cross Save to provide access.
What should I do before logging in if my expansion bundle includes a Dungeon Key?
Bungie warns that Cross Save should be fully activated before logging into Destiny 2 on the platform where an expansion-bundle Dungeon Key was purchased; logging in first may cause the key to be lost. Follow Bungie’s current Purchased Destiny Add-Ons instructions before switching platforms.
Can another account use my Dungeon Key through game sharing?
Bungie says Dungeon Keys cannot be game shared. Do not assume another account on the same platform inherits the key; check that you are using the account that owns the entitlement.
Is The Collection always the cheapest way to buy Destiny 2 content?
No. Bungie says Collection components can also be acquired separately, and storefront prices and contents can vary. Compare the live price of the exact items you want, account for items you already own, and use the checkout total for your platform and region.
Does the end of planned updates make raids and dungeons free?
No. Bungie says Destiny 2 will receive no planned live-service content updates after June 9, 2026, though stability hotfixes may still be issued. Bungie also says access to specific raids and dungeons continues to require the corresponding expansion or Dungeon Key.
What can I do if I bought content but Destiny 2 does not show it?
Confirm you are on the purchasing platform account and that the transaction completed. Then follow Bungie’s platform-specific license restoration steps in its Accessing and Restoring Licenses to Destiny Content guide. If the issue involves a bundle Dungeon Key and Cross Save, check Bungie’s add-on instructions before logging in again on other platforms.
Does Silver transfer between Destiny 1 and Destiny 2?
No. Bungie says Silver balances do not transfer between Destiny 1 and Destiny 2. Silver is bought through supported platform marketplaces or Eververse for use on the relevant Destiny release.
The Bottom Line
Buy for the specific content you want, not the biggest bundle name. Check the current itemized listing, whether a dungeon needs its own key, what you already own, and the final platform-specific price. Bungie’s Cross Save warning for expansion-bundle Dungeon Keys is worth following before logging in on another platform. And since Bungie says planned live-service updates ended after June 9, 2026, judge the purchase by the content and access available now—not by expected future updates.
