Mick Gordon is scheduled to perform the DOOM score live at RADAR Festival 2027 in Sheffield, UK, from 30 July to 1 August 2027. The announced production combines Gordon’s custom DOOM Machine with a full live band and orchestra. It is being promoted as the first full-score, full-ensemble DOOM concert—not the first time any DOOM music has been played live. Gordon previously performed a DOOM medley at The Game Awards in 2016.

What has been announced for Mick Gordon’s DOOM live concert?

RADAR Festival lists composer Mick Gordon among its 2027 artists and describes the DOOM performance as a world-first presentation of the game’s score. The announced lineup is Gordon, his customized DOOM Machine, a full live band and an orchestra.

That combination is important. This is not advertised as a producer appearing alone with playback tracks, a conventional DJ set or a tribute performance by another act. RADAR has described it as “the actual composer” performing “the actual score,” with the riffs played at concert volume. The production is therefore intended to present Gordon’s music as a large-scale live performance rather than as background music accompanying a game presentation.

RADAR says tickets are on sale. Prices, ticket tiers, availability and entry terms can change, so check the festival’s current official listing before purchasing or travelling.

The festival’s date banner and independent reporting identify the weekend as 30 July through 1 August 2027. An extracted RADAR page contains conflicting weekday labels, so use the numerical date range and confirm the organizer’s live schedule before booking transport, accommodation or time off work.

What has not been scheduled publicly

The available announcements do not specify which festival day Gordon will play, the stage, set length, doors time, running order or whether the performance will be recorded or streamed. They also do not publish a complete list of musicians, instruments or production credits. A ticket to the festival should not be treated as confirmation of a particular day or duration until RADAR publishes those details.

What will the DOOM concert sound and look like?

The DOOM Machine

Gordon developed a custom analog effects and audio-routing rig for the DOOM sound. The system helped him shape heavily processed guitars, percussion, electronics and other recorded sources into the abrasive, layered sound associated with the game. Bringing that customized DOOM Machine to the stage makes the performance more than a standard orchestral adaptation.

GameSpot has quoted Gordon describing his role as that of a “musical archeologist”: he investigates sounds, techniques and textures, then assembles them into a coherent musical language. In a concert setting, the machine can function as a live sound-design instrument alongside the players rather than merely reproducing a finished soundtrack file.

The rig also helps explain why descriptions of this event should not reduce it to “DOOM with an orchestra.” The score’s identity comes from the interaction of tuned instruments, distortion, routing and manipulation. Exactly how Gordon will operate the system onstage, and which pieces will receive the most electronic treatment, has not been announced.

Band and orchestra together

RADAR’s announcement specifically names a full live band and orchestra. The band supplies the physical attack and rhythmic weight expected from DOOM’s metal-influenced writing, while the orchestra can expand harmonic, textural and dramatic elements. The announcement does not identify every instrument or explain how each game cue will be arranged, so descriptions of a particular guitar solo, choir, visual sequence or stage effect would be speculation.

“Full” describes the announced scale of the ensemble, not a public roster. Until RADAR releases musician names or a concert program, it is safest to discuss the forces in broad terms: Gordon and the DOOM Machine, supported by a band and orchestra.

Was DOOM music performed live before 2027?

Yes. The phrase “first live performance” needs context. On 1 December 2016, Gordon performed a DOOM soundtrack medley at The Game Awards with Matt Halpern of Periphery and Sascha Dikiciyan. A verified Game Awards video and Gordon’s official-channel crowd-cam description document that appearance.

The 2027 claim refers to the first announced full concert or full-ensemble presentation of the score. It does not mean that no DOOM music has ever been played on a stage. The distinction is between a short awards-show medley and a dedicated festival production built around the score, a full band, an orchestra and Gordon’s live sound-design system.

2016 Game Awards medley versus RADAR 2027

Comparison The Game Awards, 2016 RADAR Festival, 2027
Scope A DOOM soundtrack medley Announced as a full-score, full-ensemble presentation
Date 1 December 2016 Festival weekend: 30 July–1 August 2027
Personnel publicly identified Mick Gordon, Matt Halpern and Sascha Dikiciyan Mick Gordon, a full live band and an orchestra
Production format One awards-show performance Festival concert featuring the DOOM Machine
Setlist and duration Medley documented by the broadcast Not announced

This comparison explains why both statements can be true: DOOM has already been heard live, while RADAR can still present the first large-scale concert devoted to the score.

What is the DOOM soundtrack?

DOOM (2016) uses Gordon’s music as a core part of its combat identity. Bethesda’s behind-the-music material, published on 26 October 2019, identifies Gordon’s creative role and points readers toward the original game soundtrack. Gordon’s own DOOM page also provides game and composer context with an embedded music player.

The score is built around aggressive low-end, distorted timbres, dense rhythmic patterns and sound-design techniques that blur the line between riff, percussion and electronic texture. Those characteristics make it unusually suited to a live ensemble, but they also mean that an orchestral concert alone would not represent the entire production. The announced DOOM Machine is the clearest indication that the show intends to preserve the processed, engineered side of the music as well as its playable parts.

For listeners preparing at home, the original soundtrack is useful for recognizing recurring textures and themes, not for predicting the festival program. The game’s interactive context also matters: music can intensify with combat and exploration, whereas a concert must shape those ideas into a planned sequence. No published RADAR announcement says which game cues will be selected or how interactive transitions will be handled.

How to plan a visit to RADAR Festival 2027

  1. Confirm the dates. Plan around 30 July–1 August 2027, then recheck RADAR’s current event page for any correction to weekday labels or festival scheduling.
  2. Buy the appropriate festival ticket. RADAR says tickets are on sale, but ticket type, price, allocation and refund conditions can change. Read the live terms rather than relying on an older announcement.
  3. Check the performance day. The festival weekend is confirmed, but an individual Mick Gordon slot has not been published in the available information.
  4. Verify access details. Confirm entry times, age rules, accessibility arrangements, bag policies and the route to Magna before departure. These operational details are controlled by the organizer and venue.
  5. Allow for a festival timetable. Until a running order is released, do not assume the DOOM set will be the opening, closing or only performance you attend.
  6. Budget for the whole visit. Festival admission is separate from travel, accommodation, food and any local transport. No verified ticket price or attendance figure is available, so calculate those costs from current listings rather than estimates.
  7. Recheck shortly before travel. Look for timetable changes, venue instructions, transport advice and any announcement about recording or streaming.

What fans should not assume yet

  • There is no confirmed setlist. Individual DOOM tracks, medleys and game versions have not been listed.
  • There is no confirmed duration. The length of the performance remains unannounced.
  • There is no confirmed stream or recording. Do not plan to watch remotely unless RADAR or the production team announces one.
  • There is no complete personnel list. “Full live band and orchestra” describes the format, not a published roster.
  • There is no guaranteed day or time. A festival ticket covering the weekend does not identify Gordon’s individual slot.
  • There is no confirmed physical soundtrack release tied to this event. Do not assume a vinyl or CD edition, exclusive merchandise or a concert recording exists unless an official announcement says so.

These gaps are normal for an event announced well before its festival timetable. They are also reasons to avoid relying on fan-made setlists, guessed running times or claims that a particular arrangement will definitely be played.

Why this performance matters

Game-music concerts often reinterpret a score through an orchestra or replay recognizable themes with a separate touring ensemble. The RADAR announcement describes a different ambition: Gordon’s authorship, the original score and the custom machinery used to create its sound are all part of the event’s identity.

The 2016 medley proved that DOOM material could work in a high-profile live setting. The 2027 production is designed to test the music at a much larger scale, combining the impact of a live band with orchestral forces and real-time electronic processing. That makes it relevant both to players who know the soundtrack from the game and to listeners interested in how extreme game audio is constructed for a stage.

It also creates a useful bridge between soundtrack listening and concert performance. Fans can hear familiar musical ideas in a new arrangement while watching the composer operate the tools that helped define the original sound. That is the artistic distinction RADAR is emphasizing, even though the eventual staging and program remain unknown.

Where to hear the music before the festival

Bethesda’s official DOOM material provides background on Gordon’s work and points to the DOOM (2016) soundtrack. Gordon’s official DOOM page includes a music section with an embedded player. Listening to the original release can help you recognize the score’s recurring textures, but it cannot reveal the eventual RADAR setlist or live arrangements.

The original DOOM (2016) game is another way to experience the music in its intended interactive context. Buying or playing it is optional and does not provide admission to the Sheffield concert; physical availability and current pricing vary by platform and region.
