Chewy Autoship is a recurring-order service for eligible pet products in the United States. You select the items and delivery interval, the first enrolled order is processed immediately, and later orders are created automatically until you cancel. The important distinction is that canceling the Autoship schedule stops future orders; it does not automatically cancel an order that has already reached its processing deadline.
This guide reflects Chewy’s US terms and help information available October 13, 2026. Promotions, prices, product eligibility and shipping terms can change, so check the current item label and the pre-shipment email before every order.
How Chewy Autoship works
Autoship attaches a repeat schedule to products that Chewy identifies as eligible. During enrollment, you choose how often the products should arrive. Chewy processes the initial enrolled order right away; after that, the account creates another order on each scheduled date unless you change the schedule, skip or remove items, or cancel the Autoship.

What you choose at enrollment
- The product or products to repeat.
- A delivery frequency, such as the interval offered for that item.
- Your shipping address and payment method.
You can later change the schedule, address, payment method or products included. The program stays active until you cancel it; skipping one shipment is not the same as ending the subscription.
When an item cannot recur
On some product pages, an item that cannot be sent repeatedly may offer “Ship Once With Next Autoship.” That sends the item with the next scheduled order without making it a permanent recurring item. Items already in an Autoship can be removed from the Manage Autoship area.
Which products qualify
Only products marked as eligible receive an Autoship & Save discount. Eligibility is item-specific, and Chewy’s terms contain exclusions. A product can remain available for purchase while not qualifying for the advertised discount, so inspect the current product-page label and the checkout line item rather than assuming every item in a recurring order is discounted.

There is no universally correct frequency: a feeding schedule, package size, number of pets and usage rate all affect whether the selected interval is practical. If a shipment arrives too early, use Skip Shipment or move the next date instead of allowing supplies to accumulate.

Prescription and veterinary-diet items
Prescription medication can be scheduled when Chewy has a valid prescription or remaining refills on file. Veterinary diet products require veterinary authorization before shipment. If authorization or prescription information is missing or nearing expiration, Chewy says its team may contact the veterinarian and may ask you for additional information. Autoship does not replace veterinary advice; do not start, stop or change a treatment solely to fit a delivery schedule.
What the current discounts mean
Chewy’s US program page accessed October 13, 2026 advertised the following figures:

The first two figures are Chewy-published promotional terms, not an independent estimate of typical annual savings. The standard offer is separate from the pharmacy promotion. The pharmacy offer has its own restrictions and should be verified on the live promotion page before relying on it.

How to set and change delivery timing
Chewy’s FAQ says, “Choose how often you want to receive these items. You can change your schedule anytime.” In practice, the schedule has two separate controls: the underlying frequency and the date of the next order.

Open your account’s Manage Autoship page to use these controls. A frequency change affects orders after the next order date; it does not retroactively rewrite an order that is already being prepared.
The reminder, edit window and charge sequence
Each upcoming shipment has its own deadline. Chewy’s US terms say it sends a pre-shipment email up to 72 hours before the selected ship date. The message identifies the items, prices, scheduled ship date and the period in which changes are allowed.
- Reminder: You receive the pre-shipment email, potentially as early as 72 hours before the selected ship date.
- Edit period: From receipt of that notice until 12:00 AM on the day before the designated ship date, you can edit or cancel that individual order.
- Authorization: If you do not cancel by the stated cutoff, Chewy authorizes the order while preparing it for shipment.
- Payment: A payment-authorization hold may temporarily reduce available credit. Chewy says the selected method is billed when the order is processed or shipped.
A pending authorization is not necessarily a second completed charge. If the selected payment method fails, Chewy says it may use another valid payment method associated with the account.

Because the reminder may arrive only shortly before shipment, keep your email address current and review the message rather than relying on memory of the recurring date.
How to sign up safely
- Open the product page for the food, litter, medication or accessory you want to repeat.
- Confirm that the page displays an Autoship-eligible label and review any frequency choices.
- Select Add to Autoship and choose the delivery interval offered for that item.
- Review the cart for the first-order price, discount, shipping charge, tax and the next scheduled date.
- Confirm the shipping address and payment method, then place the order.
- After enrollment, open Manage Autoship and verify the item list, frequency and next order date.
For medication or veterinary diets, complete the prescription or authorization process before expecting the item to ship. An item’s inclusion in an Autoship does not guarantee that a required prescription approval has been completed.
How to skip, edit or cancel
Skip or move one shipment
- Sign in and open Manage Autoship.
- Choose the relevant Autoship.
- Select Skip Shipment to bypass the next order, or edit Next Order to choose another date.
- Save the change and check the displayed next-order date.
Chewy’s help page says the next order date can be changed up to 48 hours before the scheduled order. Nearer to shipment, use the individual order’s reminder and cutoff information.

Cancel future Autoship orders
- Open Manage Autoship in your account.
- Select the Autoship you want to end.
- Choose Cancel This Autoship and complete the confirmation prompts.
- Check that the Autoship no longer appears as active and keep the cancellation confirmation.
Chewy’s terms also list customer service at 1-800-672-4399 as a cancellation route. Chewy says customers may cancel at any time, but cancellation of the recurring schedule is different from canceling an order already inside its edit window. If a reminder has arrived, check that order’s status and deadline immediately; an order already authorized or being prepared may continue under its order-specific terms.

Why your Autoship total can change
Do not treat the enrollment price as a permanent quote. Chewy’s terms say the product price charged is the amount in the pre-shipment email or a lower site price available at authorization. The final total can also include applicable shipping and sales tax and subtract applicable discounts.
The same terms identify product price, availability, shipping charges, taxes and program benefits as details that may change over time. The pre-shipment email is the practical checkpoint: compare the listed items and prices with your budget before the edit deadline.
Common causes of a different total
- A promotional discount no longer applies to the item or account.
- The product’s current price has changed since enrollment.
- A lower site price is used at authorization.
- Shipping charges or sales tax differ for the current order.
- An item is unavailable or has been removed from the shipment.
If the amount looks wrong, open the order details from the reminder, verify the item-level discount and contact Chewy before the cutoff. A pending authorization hold should be compared with the final processed charge rather than assumed to be a duplicate payment.
Autoship versus buying the same item manually
There is no second named program established by the available official material, but comparing Autoship with ordinary one-time purchases clarifies the trade-off.

When Autoship is a sensible fit
- You buy the same eligible product repeatedly and can estimate consumption reliably.
- You want automatic replenishment but are willing to review each reminder.
- The displayed discount remains worthwhile after shipping, tax and any exclusions.
- You can maintain valid prescription or veterinary authorization when required.
When to avoid enrolling or use it cautiously
- Your pet’s quantity needs change often, making a fixed interval hard to predict.
- You cannot reliably monitor email reminders or account notifications.
- The item’s price, availability or discount changes enough to undermine the convenience.
- You are enrolling only because of a first-order promotion and do not want later recurring orders.
US availability and governing terms
This guide is for Chewy’s United States program. The Autoship terms state that program products are available for shipping within the 48 contiguous US states. Selecting Autoship on an eligible item means accepting the Autoship-specific terms, while Chewy’s broader Terms of Use also apply. Do not assume that Canadian or other regional offers, discount amounts or deadlines apply to a US account.
Before enrolling, read the live Autoship & Save page, confirm the item’s eligibility and inspect the first-order total. Before every later shipment, use the reminder email and account page to decide whether to keep, edit, skip or cancel that specific order.
