During Disney Dreamlight Valley’s 2026 Trick-or-Treat event, leftover red, green and purple candy has three useful destinations: finish candy-related Event Duties, gift it to villagers for gifting objectives, or spend it on Halloween decorations. The event runs from October 14 through October 31, 2026. The official announcement confirms that “Candy can be eaten or gifted to complete Event Duties,” and it also lists four craftable Halloween Town decorations plus Mickey’s Halloween Candy Bowl. See the official 2026 Trick-or-Treat announcement for the event notice.

Quick answer: the best order for using extra candy

Do not spend every piece immediately. First check whether a candy-eating or candy-gifting objective is still open, then reserve balanced quantities of all three colors for furniture. This order prevents a common problem: completing a duty with one color and later discovering that a decoration needs the same color.

  1. Open the Village/Event Duties menu. Complete any objective that specifically asks you to eat candy.
  2. Gift candy to villagers if a gifting duty remains. The event also includes daily trick-or-treat interactions at lit Jack-o’-lanterns outside selected villagers’ homes.
  3. Keep red, green and purple supplies balanced for crafting. Every listed Halloween Town recipe requires equal amounts of each color.
  4. Craft the decorations you want before October 31 ends. Halloween Town Mausoleum is the largest candy sink, while Halloween Town Fence is the cheapest recipe.
  5. Check your mailbox for Mickey’s Halloween Candy Bowl. The announcement says players without its recipe will receive it through in-game mail.

There is no confirmed post-event rule saying whether unused candy disappears, converts, can be sold or remains in storage. Treat October 31 as the safe deadline for duties and crafting rather than assuming leftover pieces will have a later use.

When the 2026 event supplies candy

The 2026 event is scheduled for October 14–31, 2026. Three Candy Bowl colors appear in the Plaza: red, purple and green. Each bowl gives two candies of its matching color.

Dates Spawn pattern What one complete color cycle provides
October 14–30 Two bowls of each color appear every 24 hours Four red, four green and four purple candies per daily appearance, assuming you collect both bowls of every color
October 31 Two bowls of each color appear every hour Four candies of each color per hourly appearance, assuming you collect all six bowls

A maximum of five bowls of each color can be present in the Valley at one time. Because each bowl contains two candies, five visible bowls represent up to 10 available candies of that color before you collect them. That is a storage limit for spawned bowls, not a promise that your character’s inventory has unlimited capacity.

The faster October 31 schedule is useful if you are short on one color, but it is also the final event day. If you plan to craft a large item, start saving well before the last day instead of relying entirely on hourly appearances.

Use Event Duties before consuming candy for anything else

Eating candy for an eating objective

Open the Event Duties area from the Village menu and read the remaining requirements. If a duty asks you to eat candy, consume the requested pieces from your inventory first. The official wording covers candy generally, so the announcement does not require a particular color for the eating objective unless your in-game duty text adds that condition.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Eating is the most direct choice when the duty is nearly complete and you have more candy than the decorations you intend to craft. Count the pieces you still need, set that amount aside, and only then decide whether the remainder should be gifted or crafted. This avoids spending a color that is needed for a recipe.

Gifting candy for a gifting objective

If the Event Duties menu asks you to gift candy, give the required pieces to villagers rather than eating them. Use the normal character interaction and gift flow, selecting the red, green or purple candy from your inventory. The event announcement explicitly confirms that gifting candy counts toward Event Duties.

Gifting is a sensible choice when you are already planning a villager interaction or want to combine the event requirement with your regular friendship routine. Do not assume that every villager has a special candy dialogue; the guaranteed event requirement is that the candy is gifted and the duty registers it.

Daily trick-or-treat house interactions

The 2026 event adds daily trick-or-treat interactions at lit Jack-o’-Lanterns outside the homes of Mickey Mouse, WALL•E, Daisy, Stitch, Mike Wazowski and Jack Skellington. Visit those lit pumpkins when they are available and use the interaction prompt. These encounters are separate from deciding whether to eat, gift or craft candy, so check the duty wording to see which activity your remaining objective requires.

Crafting recipes that use leftover candy

The candy decorations are permanent furniture choices, making crafting the clearest long-term use for pieces that are not needed for duties. Every listed Halloween Town recipe consumes equal quantities of red, green and purple candy.

Decoration Red candy Green candy Purple candy Total candy Planning note
Halloween Town Fence 1 1 1 3 Cheapest recipe; useful for spending one balanced set
Halloween Town Gravestone 2 2 2 6 Requires two of every color
Halloween Town Graveyard Statue 3 3 3 9 Requires three of every color
Halloween Town Mausoleum 5 5 5 15 Most expensive listed recipe

Use the smallest color pile as your limit. For example, if you have 7 red, 5 green and 9 purple candies, you can craft one Mausoleum (5 of each) and have 2 red, 0 green and 4 purple left; you cannot craft a second balanced recipe until you collect more green candy. If you have 3 of each color, you can choose one Graveyard Statue or three Fences, depending on the look you want.

How to choose between recipes

  • Choose the Fence when you want to use a single set of three candies or are unsure how much candy you will collect before the event ends.
  • Choose the Gravestone when you have at least two of every color and want a larger object without committing five sets.
  • Choose the Graveyard Statue when your inventory supports three of each color and you prefer a centerpiece.
  • Choose the Mausoleum only after reserving candy for open Event Duties, because it consumes five of every color at once.

Crafting consumes the candy immediately. Verify the recipe and quantity on the crafting screen before confirming, especially if you are saving for a larger decoration.

Mickey’s Halloween Candy Bowl recipe

Mickey’s Halloween Candy Bowl is also craftable during the event. If its recipe is not visible in your crafting collection, check in-game mail: the official 2026 announcement says the recipe will be provided there for players who do not already have it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The announcement identifies the item as craftable but does not provide a candy cost in the supplied event details. Do not estimate a quantity from the four Halloween Town recipes; open the in-game recipe itself and use the displayed requirements. If the recipe mail has not appeared, check the mailbox again after relogging and confirm that the event is active on the current game version before treating the recipe as unavailable.

A practical inventory plan for leftover candy

Reserve candy for duties first

Read every remaining candy-related duty and record whether it asks you to eat or gift. Keep that amount untouched. If a duty does not specify a color, reserve a mixed selection rather than spending only one color, because the game may let you choose which candy to use.

Maintain equal color counts for furniture

Because every listed Halloween Town decoration has a 1:1:1 color ratio, the color with the lowest count determines how many balanced recipes you can craft. A simple inventory check is:

  • Write down your red, green and purple totals.
  • Subtract the candy reserved for eating or gifting duties.
  • Use the smallest remaining total as your maximum recipe tier: 1 supports a Fence, 2 supports a Gravestone, 3 supports a Graveyard Statue, and 5 supports a Mausoleum.
  • Collect the next bowl spawn when one color falls behind.

Plan around the calendar

From October 14 through October 30, the normal cycle is every 24 hours, so a missed collection delays that color’s supply. On October 31, bowls appear hourly, which creates more opportunities but leaves no confirmed post-event grace period. Craft anything you definitely want before the event closes on October 31.

What happens to candy after October 31?

There is no confirmed universal outcome for unused red, green or purple candy after the 2026 event. The 2026 announcement and the 2025 event announcement do not state that candy is deleted, converted, sold or retained. The earlier 2023 update describes the candy activity as limited-time and connected to Dreamlight Duties, but it does not establish a permanent expiration rule. You can review the historical notices here: 2025 Trick-or-Treat announcement and 2023 Enchanted Adventure update.

Accordingly, do not hold candy because you expect a future sale value or automatic conversion. If a duty remains, complete it; if you want event furniture, craft it while the recipe and event are available. Any later inventory behavior should be treated as version-specific and confirmed by an official update rather than assumed.

Troubleshooting common leftover-candy problems

A color is missing from the Plaza

Check whether you have reached the five-bowl-per-color presence limit. Collect existing bowls first, then revisit the Plaza after the next scheduled spawn window. During October 14–30, the stated refresh is every 24 hours; on October 31, it is every hour.

The candy duty did not complete

Reopen the Event Duties menu and read the exact verb. Eating candy will not satisfy a gifting requirement, and gifting will not satisfy an eating requirement. For a trick-or-treat objective, use the lit Jack-o’-Lantern interaction outside the listed homes rather than assuming an inventory action is enough.

A decoration is unavailable

Confirm that you are using the event crafting category and that all three color requirements are met. The recipes are balanced, so having enough total candy is not sufficient if one color is short. For Mickey’s Halloween Candy Bowl, check in-game mail for the recipe delivery described in the official announcement.

You are unsure whether to spend the last few pieces

Keep a reserve until every Event Duty is checked. After that, compare your three color counts with the recipe table. A single candy of each color can become a Fence; uneven leftovers that cannot form a recipe are the pieces for which the post-event outcome is unconfirmed.

Decision examples

You still need an eating duty

Reserve the exact number of pieces shown by the duty, eat them, and then recalculate your red, green and purple totals before crafting. Do not spend five of each color on a Mausoleum first if doing so could leave you unable to complete the duty.

You still need a gifting duty and have surplus candy

Gift the required pieces to villagers, then preserve equal color quantities for furniture. If your counts are uneven, collect the next bowl cycle before choosing a recipe rather than breaking a balanced set.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

All duties are complete and you want a permanent reward

Craft the decoration that matches your inventory and decorating plan. Select a Fence for a small commitment, or save five of each color for the Mausoleum if you have enough time before October 31 to complete the set.

You are playing on October 31

Use the hourly bowl schedule to fill the weakest color, visit the six listed trick-or-treat homes for any daily interaction objectives, and craft before the event closes. Do not rely on an unconfirmed ability to use the candy afterward.
