If your Galaxy A04s says it is up to date but its security patch is older than Samsung’s latest release for your exact model code, first rule out a regional or carrier rollout difference. Find the phone’s model code and patch level, compare them with Samsung’s model-specific firmware history, and then decide whether the phone is suitable for the accounts and payments you use. Samsung’s general security-update list currently omits the Galaxy A04s, yet the SM-A047F history shows an Android 14 build released on August 27, 2026 with the August 5, 2026 security patch. That difference means you should not assume every A04s variant lost support on the same date.
Check your exact Galaxy A04s variant before concluding support has ended
“Galaxy A04s” is a product name, not a single worldwide firmware channel. Samsung distributes software by model code, country and network operator. Two phones sold under the same name can therefore show different build numbers or receive an update at different times.
Find the model code
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Record the full model code, such as
SM-A047For another regional variant.
Do not use a firmware page for a different suffix as proof that your phone is unsupported. Samsung maintains separate support pages for variants, including an SM-A047M page for Latin America: Samsung Galaxy A04s SM-A047M support.

Record the installed patch level
- Go to Settings > About phone > Software information.
- Note the Android version, Android security patch level, and Build number.
The security patch level is the important comparison point. A newer Android version does not automatically mean the device has the newest security fixes, and a security patch can arrive without a major Android upgrade.

What Samsung’s published records establish
Samsung’s current Mobile Security update-scope page groups selected devices into monthly, quarterly or biannual update schedules. The page checked on October 13, 2026 does not name the Galaxy A04s in its current monthly or quarterly lists. That omission shows Samsung is not placing the A04s in those listed groups; it does not prove that every regional A04s variant stopped receiving releases simultaneously.
A model-specific history gives a more precise result for one channel. Samsung’s SM-A047F software update history lists the following latest entry visible on October 13, 2026:
| Model record | Build | Android version | Release date | Security patch level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SM-A047F | A047FXXSGEZH2 | Android 14 | August 27, 2026 | August 5, 2026 |
Samsung warns on that history page that changes can vary by model, country and network operator. Treat the August 2026 entry as evidence for the SM-A047F channel shown, not as a universal last update for every A04s sold worldwide.
How Samsung’s broad policy statements fit
In a February 22, 2021 announcement, Samsung said Galaxy products launched since 2019 would receive at least four years of security updates after their initial release, delivered monthly, quarterly or biannually. The announcement is a general policy, not an exact A04s end date. Samsung’s current security page describes support of up to seven years for covered Galaxy devices, but that upper limit does not establish a seven-year commitment for the A04s.

Samsung executive Seungwon Shin explained the rationale in that 2021 announcement: “Mobile devices play such an important role in our lives, it’s only natural that we want to hold onto them longer.” You can read the policy announcement at Samsung Newsroom US.
Do not count Android version upgrades as security-support years. Samsung’s separate 2020 announcement promised three generations of Android OS upgrades for selected devices, with timing and availability dependent on the device and market. An OS-upgrade promise and a security-patch schedule are different commitments. The announcement is available at Samsung Global Newsroom.
Why your A04s may show no update
A rollout may not have reached your channel
Samsung can release firmware in stages. If your phone reports that it is current while its patch level trails the latest entry for the same model code, check again later. A carrier-controlled channel can receive the same release after an unlocked or different-country channel.
You may be comparing the wrong model or market
Confirm the complete model code, country of sale and network operator before comparing dates. A firmware page for SM-A047F cannot settle the status of SM-A047M or another suffix. Samsung’s own records explicitly caution that release details vary by model, country and operator.

The A04s may no longer be in Samsung’s listed update groups
The absence of the A04s from the current monthly and quarterly scope lists is a meaningful warning that Samsung is no longer listing it in those active groups. It is not, by itself, a dated universal end-of-support notice. Use the model-specific history as the deciding evidence for your phone.
“Up to date” does not mean “fully patched”
The updater can correctly report that no release is available to your device even when a newer build exists for another region or operator. It can also report current status when the manufacturer has not published a later build for your channel. Compare the patch level and build number, rather than relying only on the message.
Use the built-in updater and verify the result
- Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network and charge the phone sufficiently.
- Open Settings > Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- If an update appears, review the build and security-patch information, install it, and allow the phone to restart.
- After restarting, return to Settings > About phone > Software information and confirm the new patch level.
If the phone says it is current but remains behind the latest entry for the identical model and channel, wait and check again rather than forcing firmware from an unrelated region. Contact Samsung support or your network operator with the model code, build number, country and current patch level; those details let them distinguish a delayed rollout from a channel with no newer release.

Keep software components current if firmware patches stop
Even when Samsung no longer publishes device firmware, some components can continue to update. Install available updates for:
- Apps from the Galaxy Store and Google Play.
- Google Play system components, when Android exposes an update in Settings > Security and privacy > Updates or a similarly named menu on your build.
- Samsung services and preinstalled apps offered through their normal stores.
These updates can fix defects in the individual app or component, but they cannot replace missing security fixes in the Android operating system, Samsung framework or device firmware. Treat them as maintenance, not as proof that an unsupported phone is fully patched.
Reduce avoidable exposure while you decide
Risk-reduction steps are worthwhile, but none turns an out-of-support A04s into a fully supported device.
- Use trusted app sources only. Avoid APK files and stores you cannot verify. Sideloaded software bypasses the normal screening and update path.
- Remove software you no longer need. Fewer installed apps mean fewer permissions and fewer components that can become vulnerable.
- Keep a screen lock enabled. Use a strong PIN or password rather than leaving the phone accessible.
- Protect important accounts with multifactor authentication. Enable it for email, banking, work and other services that support it.
- Maintain a current backup. Back up photos, contacts, messages and authentication-recovery information before the phone develops a fault or you migrate to another device.
- Limit sensitive activity if the patch gap grows. A phone used for casual calls presents a different exposure than one used for banking, password management or work administration.
Should you keep using the Galaxy A04s or replace it?
There is no single cutoff date that applies to every A04s. Base the decision on your exact firmware record and what the phone does for you.
| Situation | Reasonable action | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Your exact model has a recent published build, and your patch is only temporarily behind. | Continue using it and check the updater again after the rollout window. | Matching model code, country/operator channel and a later patch level in Samsung’s history. |
| No later build exists for your exact variant, but use is limited to low-sensitivity tasks. | Continue cautiously while applying app, Google Play and account-security updates. | That the phone is backed up and you are avoiding untrusted apps and high-value account activity. |
| No later build exists and the phone handles banking, payments, work administration or password access. | Move those activities to a device that Samsung currently lists for security updates. | The replacement’s exact regional variant, published update cadence and remaining support period. |
Samsung’s current quarterly list includes the Galaxy A16 5G, but that listing is an example of current list membership, not a universal recommendation or guarantee for every market. Before buying any replacement, check the precise model code sold in your country, its current place on Samsung’s security page and local availability. No price or replacement-cost figure is established here, so compare the total cost with the sensitivity of the work you need the phone to perform.
A practical decision checklist
- Have you written down the complete model code from Settings > About phone?
- Have you recorded the Android security patch level and build number?
- Did you compare those details with the Samsung history for the same model and market?
- Did you account for a possible country or carrier delay before calling the phone unsupported?
- Are apps, Galaxy Store software and Google Play components updated?
- Do you avoid unknown APK sources, use a screen lock, enable multifactor authentication and keep backups?
- Does the phone handle sensitive accounts that should move to a currently supported device?
The evidence supports a careful conclusion rather than a blanket one: Samsung does not currently list the Galaxy A04s in its general monthly or quarterly update groups, while the SM-A047F record shows a security build released on August 27, 2026. Verify your own variant first. If Samsung has no later firmware for it and your risk tolerance is low, replacing the phone is the safer course; if a rollout is merely delayed, install the official update when it reaches your channel.
