When two travel apps show different flight times or booking information, do not choose one screen at random. Compare the underlying itinerary, then verify the reservation and live operation through the airline’s official channel and confirm ticketing or changes with the company that sold the ticket. The airline can usually confirm what it currently plans to operate; the seller or travel agency controls many ticketing, exchange and refund actions.
Act promptly, keep a written record, and avoid links or phone numbers from unexpected messages. A discrepancy can be a harmless code-share display or an older saved itinerary, but it can also signal a schedule change, an unissued ticket or a booking that needs correction.
Why flight apps can disagree
Travel bookings can involve several records rather than one universal itinerary. An airline may operate a flight marketed under another airline’s flight number. A travel agency or online booking service may issue the ticket while the airline stores the operational reservation. Your phone may also retain an earlier confirmation after a schedule change.

These records answer different questions:

A current app screen is not automatically conclusive when the airline and seller records still conflict. Treat the display as a lead to investigate, not as proof that a ticket was changed or cancelled.

First, compare every itinerary detail
Put the original booking confirmation, any later schedule-change notice, the seller’s app and the airline’s app side by side. Check each traveler and each segment rather than comparing only the headline departure time.
Passenger identity
Compare every passenger’s name with the passport or other travel document that will be used at check-in. A typo, missing middle name or swapped surname can create a check-in problem even when the route and date look correct. Ask the seller about corrections immediately; do not wait until the airport.
Flight number, date and airports
Record the flight number and travel date exactly as shown. Verify the origin and destination airport codes, not just the city name. Cities with more than one airport can produce a serious mistake if an app displays a city label while another record shows a different airport.

Times are local to each airport. Check whether the difference reflects a time-zone conversion, a genuine schedule change or an old cached itinerary. Also compare the arrival date, especially for overnight or international flights.
Stops and connections
Count every stop, connection and airport change. A new connection can alter your required visa, minimum connection time or refund rights. Compare the length of each connection instead of relying on a total journey duration.

Marketing versus operating airline
A code-share flight is sold under one airline’s flight number but operated by another carrier. Look for wording such as “operated by” or an operating-carrier code. The logo in an app does not by itself identify the airline flying the aircraft.
Verify the reservation through official channels
After comparing the details, use contact information obtained independently from the airline’s official website or its installed official app. Do not rely on a phone number, QR code or link in an unexpected text or email until you have verified it elsewhere.

Open the airline’s official booking-management page or app and enter the airline booking reference and the passenger details it requests. If a seller supplied a separate agency reference, keep it available; the airline may use a different code.
- Check the stored itinerary. Confirm that every segment is present, the ticket or reservation shows the correct passenger, and the date, airports, times and operating carrier match your documents.
- Check live flight status separately. A reservation record says what is booked; a flight-status page says what the carrier currently expects to operate. Check both because a confirmed reservation can still face a delay or cancellation.
- Contact the airline if its record is missing or different. Ask what its operational record shows and request the current flight number, local times, airports and operating carrier for each segment. Give the airline a current email address and phone number so it can send schedule updates.
- Contact the seller for ticketing actions. If the ticket was bought through an agency or online travel seller, ask that seller to confirm ticket issuance and reconcile any agency record. The airline may have limited ability to exchange, refund or reissue a ticket it did not sell directly.
Department of Transportation guidance directs customers with agency-booked ticket problems to contact the agency first. That does not prevent you from checking the airline’s operational record; it clarifies who is normally responsible for ticketing work.
Ask a question that produces an actionable answer
Generic replies such as “your itinerary is updated” do not resolve a conflict. Send the same precise questions to the airline or seller and ask for the answer in writing:
- Is each segment confirmed, and has a ticket actually been issued for every passenger?
- What date, local departure time, local arrival time and airport currently apply?
- Which carrier is marketing the segment, and which carrier is operating it?
- Is the newer message a schedule change, a cancellation, a duplicate booking or a separate reservation?
- Does any action have a deadline, and who controls rebooking, exchange or refund processing?
- What booking reference, ticket number or case number should be used in the next contact?
Ask the representative to identify the record’s timestamp. If two records have different times, the newer confirmed notice is generally more relevant, but it still must match the ticketing record and the operating airline’s system.

Keep a complete evidence trail
Save the original confirmation before making changes. Keep schedule-change notices, revised itineraries, screenshots showing dates and times, payment receipts, case numbers and chat or email transcripts. Include the date and time of each call and the name or identifier of the representative when available.
Store the information privately. Never post a booking code, ticket number, passport details, payment information or an uncensored screenshot in a public forum. Those details can allow another person to access or alter a reservation.
Ryanair’s Help Centre explains why verification matters: “Verifying your booking also ensures that we have the correct contact information for you so that we can contact you with important itinerary information, including in the event of schedule changes, delays or other service disruptions.” That is a carrier-specific example; other airlines may use different verification steps.
What to do when the conflict is urgent
Your departure is more than a few days away
Resolve the discrepancy through the seller and airline while there is time for a correction. Recheck the itinerary a few days before departure because airline schedules can change after the original confirmation.
Your departure is imminent
Contact both parties promptly. Ask the airline to state what its operational record shows and ask the seller to reconcile its ticketing record while you remain available on the same call or chat. Write down any promised action and its deadline. If an agent says the airline must act, ask the agent to explain whether the ticket has been placed in a queue, reissued or merely noted.

One app shows a different flight number
Check whether one number is the marketing flight and the other is the operating flight. A genuine code-share can have two numbers for one aircraft. If the dates, airports or times also differ, ask both parties to identify whether the records describe the same segment.
The reservation cannot be found
Verify that you are using the correct airline reference and passenger name format. Then contact the seller that charged your card or issued the confirmation. Ask for the airline record locator and electronic ticket number, and ask whether payment was accepted but ticketing remains incomplete.
You are considering buying another ticket
Do not purchase a replacement solely because one app has an anomalous display. First obtain the airline’s and seller’s written position. A second ticket can create duplicate reservations, forfeited funds or a difficult refund claim. If safety or an imminent departure requires a new purchase, preserve the evidence and ask both parties in advance what happens to the original ticket.

- A domestic departure at least three hours earlier than originally scheduled.
- An international departure at least six hours earlier.
- A domestic arrival at least three hours later.
- An international arrival at least six hours later.
- A change to a different origin or destination airport.
- An additional connection.
These thresholds describe the cited U.S. DOT framework; do not apply them automatically to a non-U.S. itinerary or assume that every app discrepancy meets a legal threshold. A changed display is not necessarily a cancellation or significant change.
Identify the merchant of record
For an agency purchase, inspect the card or bank statement to see which company charged you. DOT says a ticket agent that is the merchant of record must provide the proper airfare refund when one is due for a covered cancellation or significant change. Contact that merchant with the ticket number, original payment evidence and the relevant change notice.
Ancillary purchases such as seat assignments, bags or other add-ons can follow different refund channels. Ask who collected each charge and request a separate written answer for each item.
If you accept a new itinerary
Before accepting a rebooking or credit, ask what rights or restrictions apply and whether accepting it ends the option of a cash refund. Save the original schedule and the proposed replacement so you can compare the change accurately.
When and how to escalate
Exact escalation routes vary by airline and seller, so there is no single universal sequence. Use this order:
- Ask the first representative to document the discrepancy and provide a case number.
- Request a supervisor or written escalation if the answer does not address ticket issuance, the current segment or the responsible party.
- Send the seller the airline’s written information and send the airline the seller’s ticketing response. Ask each to state specifically what it needs from the other.
- If a covered U.S. cancellation or significant change is not handled, preserve the records needed for a complaint to the U.S. Department of Transportation. For travel outside that scope, contact the relevant national aviation regulator and the seller’s dispute process.
Keep communications factual: list the two conflicting values, identify the dates and times shown, attach unredacted information only through secure channels, and state the outcome you need.
A reusable pre-departure checklist
- Passenger names match travel documents.
- Flight numbers and dates match across the latest confirmation.
- Origin and destination airport codes are correct.
- Departure and arrival times are local and include the correct arrival date.
- Stops, connections and airport changes are understood.
- Marketing and operating airlines are identified.
- The airline’s official reservation record is visible or its absence is explained.
- Each segment is confirmed and ticketed.
- Airline and seller have your current contact details.
- Original and revised confirmations, notices and case numbers are saved.
- Any refund or rebooking deadline is recorded before you accept an option.
Bottom line
Resolve conflicting app information by separating operational status from ticketing responsibility. Verify the current itinerary with the operating airline, confirm issuance and changes with the seller or merchant of record, and obtain a timestamped written answer. Check the details again near departure, protect your booking information, and review applicable refund rules before accepting a changed flight or credit.
