A successful send request does not prove that a Solana transaction reached the cluster. Save the transaction signature, query its status, read any execution error, and only then decide whether to wait, correct the transaction, rebuild it with a fresh blockhash, or investigate your RPC endpoint. Never blindly resend a payment just because a wallet or API returned quickly.
This sequence separates a genuinely pending transaction from an expired blockhash, an application error, an insufficient balance, and an unhealthy endpoint. The remedy is different for each case.
Start with the transaction signature
The signature is the identifier you need for every later check. Copy it from the wallet or application immediately and keep the exact string, along with the network (usually mainnet-beta or devnet), approximate submission time, recipient, amount, and the sending account.
Solana’s sendTransaction RPC method verifies the signed packet and relays it to the cluster. A successful RPC response means that the endpoint accepted the submission; it does not mean the transaction was processed or confirmed. Treat the signature as a receipt for submission, not proof of settlement.

Check status with the RPC API
Query the signature through a healthy endpoint with getSignatureStatuses. A minimal JSON-RPC request is:

}The result can include a confirmation state such as processed, confirmed, or finalized, a slot, and an err value. An err of null means execution succeeded at the reported commitment. A non-null error means the transaction executed unsuccessfully. A null status means that this endpoint has no status for the signature yet; it can indicate that the transaction has not landed, that the endpoint is behind, or that the record is outside the node’s search range.
Cross-check in an explorer
Paste the signature into Solana Explorer on the same cluster you used to submit it. Confirm the slot, instruction list, fee payer, balances, and program logs. An explorer is a useful second view, but it is still querying a node; a temporary explorer or RPC outage can make a valid transaction appear missing.

Do not infer a wait time from the send response. There is no guaranteed landing time: congestion, compute demand, fee bidding, leader scheduling, and endpoint health all vary.

When a Solana transaction is pending or stuck
Repeat the status check, not the payment
For a wallet transfer, poll the same signature for a short, bounded period. Use a healthy endpoint and request a meaningful commitment, such as confirmed or finalized, according to the risk of the action. A second submission can create a duplicate transfer if the first transaction lands later.
Check the validity window
Recent blockhashes are intentionally short-lived. Solana documentation specifies a maximum processing age of 150 slots for a recent blockhash. If the transaction has not been processed before that window closes, the cluster will reject it as stale. The exact wall-clock duration changes with slot timing, so do not convert 150 slots into a fixed number of seconds.
Use a second endpoint carefully
Querying another endpoint can distinguish a delayed node from an unprocessed transaction. Keep the original signature and compare the returned slot, commitment, and error. If one endpoint is stale, it may report null even though another node already sees the transaction. Do not create a new signed payment until you have checked the original signature on more than one healthy source or otherwise established that it cannot land.
When a Solana transaction failed
Solana transactions are atomic: every instruction must succeed. If one instruction fails, all state changes from the transaction are reverted. The fee is not reverted, however. A failed transaction can therefore leave balances unchanged while still charging the fee payer.

Read the actual error
Inspect the err object and, when available, simulation or program logs. The instruction index, program name, custom error code, and log message usually identify the failing input. Repeating the identical signed bytes will normally reproduce the same failure and charge another fee.
Common error-specific fixes
- Expired or unknown blockhash: Fetch a new blockhash, rebuild every message instruction, and sign again. Verify the old signature before doing this so an eventual late landing cannot duplicate the action.
- Insufficient SOL for fees: The fee payer needs enough SOL for the base fee and any prioritization fee. A sufficient token balance does not pay a SOL-denominated transaction fee.
- Insufficient token balance: Recalculate the amount using the token’s decimal precision and account for rent or other instructions in the same transaction. A higher priority fee cannot make an underfunded transfer succeed.
- Missing associated token account: Create or correctly address the recipient’s token account when the program and transfer flow require one. Confirm that the mint and owner are the intended accounts.
- Program or simulation error: Check instruction ordering, account ownership, signer requirements, writable flags, and program-specific arguments. Fix the faulty instruction rather than merely resubmitting.
Fees, priority fees, and congestion
Know what the base fee covers
Every Solana transaction requires payment in SOL. The documented base fee is 5,000 lamports per signature. The fee is charged even when execution fails, because signature verification and transaction processing still consume network resources.
Understand the optional priority fee
A prioritization fee can raise scheduling priority during contention. It is optional, variable with current demand, and not a guarantee that a transaction will land. The useful fee depends on recent network conditions and the transaction’s compute-unit settings.

Why paying more can still fail
Fees do not override account permissions, program constraints, blockhash validity, packet-size limits, or an unavailable RPC service. A fee adjustment is a scheduling choice, not a retry strategy.
Rebuild a transaction safely after blockhash expiry
- Query the original signature. Check a healthy endpoint and an explorer. Proceed only when you have reasonable evidence that it did not succeed.
- Fetch a fresh blockhash. Request
getLatestBlockhashand retain bothblockhashandlastValidBlockHeight. - Recreate the message. Use the same intended accounts and amount, but replace the old recent blockhash. Recompute any instruction data that may have changed.
- Simulate before signing when appropriate. Simulation can expose account, program, and compute errors without committing state, although simulation cannot guarantee that the later block will be identical.
- Sign again. Every signer must sign the newly built message; an old signature is invalid after the message changes.
- Send and confirm the new signature. Store it separately from the original and monitor it through the same status workflow.
A standard Solana transaction is limited to 1,232 bytes. If rebuilding adds instructions, account addresses, or signatures that exceed this limit, split the operation or use an address-lookup-table design supported by your transaction format.
Individual wallet troubleshooting
For a transfer that appears stuck
- Copy the signature and record the recipient, amount, token mint, and network.
- Look up the signature in an explorer and with
getSignatureStatuses. - If it is confirmed or finalized successfully, stop; the wallet display is stale.
- If it is pending, wait briefly and recheck through a second endpoint. Avoid pressing Send again.
- If it failed, follow the displayed error. Check SOL for fees separately from the token balance.
- If the blockhash expired and the signature never landed, start a fresh transaction from the wallet after verifying the recipient and amount.
For a balance that looks wrong
Check the commitment level used by the wallet and the explorer. A wallet reading a lagging endpoint can show an old balance, while a recently submitted transaction at processed may not yet be visible at finalized. Refreshing the interface is useful only after checking the chain status; it does not change the transaction.

Keep submission and confirmation stateful
Persist the signature, message parameters, fee payer, blockhash, and validity information before returning success to a caller. Expose a transaction state such as submitted, confirmed, finalized, or failed instead of treating an HTTP 200 response as completion.

Use bounded polling with a deadline tied to lastValidBlockHeight. On each poll, record the endpoint, slot, commitment, latency, and error. Once the validity window closes, query the original signature again before deciding to rebuild.
Use simulation and compute limits deliberately
The documented maximum compute budget is 1.4 million compute units per transaction. A transaction that approaches its limit may need fewer instructions, better account preparation, or an explicit compute-unit limit and price. Simulation errors should be routed to application diagnostics, not hidden behind automatic retries.
Design retries to be idempotent
Retries are safe only when your business operation is safe to repeat. Store an application-level idempotency key, map it to the original signature, and require an operator or reconciliation step before creating a second payment. For swaps, mints, and other stateful instructions, inspect on-chain state rather than assuming that a missing status means no effect.

When the RPC endpoint is the real problem
Shared public endpoints are rate-limited and can return stale state. A fast response can therefore coexist with high slot lag, dropped submissions, or delayed confirmation. Solana advises against relying on shared public endpoints for production payment flows.
Health checks to add
- Measure request latency and tail latency from the application’s actual region.
- Track timeout, HTTP error, JSON-RPC error, and transaction-delivery rates at normal and peak load.
- Compare the endpoint’s returned slot with a current reference to detect stale reads.
- Verify consistent support for the commitment levels your application uses.
- Monitor request, bandwidth, WebSocket, and concurrency limits before they are exhausted.
- Test transaction routing, retry, and status features rather than assuming that every provider forwards packets identically.
- Maintain a tested fallback and document how to switch reads and sends without mixing conflicting state.
Use bounded retries and backoff
Retry transient network failures with a finite attempt count and increasing delay. Do not retry a deterministic program error, an insufficient balance, or an expired blockhash with unchanged bytes. Keep blockhash retrieval, simulation, sending, and confirmation on a responsive endpoint when possible; mixing a fresh send with a lagging confirmation service can produce misleading results.
How to compare production RPC options

| Portability | Can you fail over without changing application semantics, credentials, or data assumptions? |
Select a dedicated service only when measurements show that endpoint latency, freshness, rate limiting, or availability is contributing to the incidents. A different provider cannot repair invalid instructions or underfunded accounts.
A compact decision checklist
- Have you saved the exact signature and network?
- Did you query
getSignatureStatusesinstead of relying on the send response? - Did you inspect the error and logs before retrying?
- Could the blockhash still be valid, and did you check the original signature before rebuilding?
- Does the fee payer have enough SOL, independently of the token balance?
- Does the recipient have the required token account?
- Is the endpoint fresh, responsive, and within its rate limits?
- Would a retry duplicate an already successful business action?
What to remember
The safest Solana troubleshooting order is signature, status, error, validity window, then remedy. Wait when the original transaction is still viable; correct inputs when execution failed; rebuild only after an expired blockhash and a verified non-landing; and investigate endpoint health when the same symptoms recur across valid transactions. Priority fees are a conditional scheduling tool, not a cure-all, and no send response substitutes for confirmation.
