If your computer works well and memory use stays comfortably within its available RAM, you can wait rather than buy at a high price. If memory pressure is causing slowdowns, choose a compatible kit that meets the needs of the applications you actually use. Check current local stock, prices, and return terms: market forecasts do not tell you what a specific desktop RAM kit costs today.
First, decide whether you need more RAM
Check memory use while running the games or applications that matter to you, especially when the slowdowns occur. Operating-system memory monitors can help show whether RAM is consistently near capacity. High use alone does not prove that an upgrade will fix every slowdown, but sustained memory pressure alongside sluggish performance is a reason to investigate.
- If the upgrade is optional: Keep using your current system if it performs adequately. Set a price and capacity that would make an upgrade worthwhile, then monitor listings in your region.
- If your workload is constrained: Identify which applications cause the pressure, then select enough memory for that workload within your budget. MSI’s examples of 16 GB and 32 GB are vendor guidance, not universal capacity standards. MSI’s RAM selection guide advises buying the capacity needed rather than stretching for an aspirational target.
Do not buy solely because a forecast says prices may rise, and do not assume waiting will guarantee a lower price. Neither outcome predicts the price or availability of a particular kit at a local retailer.

Memory-market reports describe specific segments and contract transactions; they are not live retail quotes for consumer desktop RAM.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Source and date | Reported outlook | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| TrendForce, July 9, 2026 | Forecast a 13–18% quarter-over-quarter increase in 3Q26 and further quarterly rises from 2H26 through 2H27, likely at a slower pace. | Server DRAM contract prices, not consumer desktop kit prices. TrendForce described continued server-market undersupply while noting that long-term supply agreements can limit increases for some large cloud providers. |
| TrendForce, February 2, 2026 | Forecast a 90–95% quarter-over-quarter increase in conventional DRAM contract prices for 1Q26, and a projected increase above 100% for PC DRAM contracts. | Dated contract-price forecasts for a period that has passed—not measured retail inflation or a current price estimate for an individual kit. |
| Counterpoint Research, 2026 | The insight title says memory prices surged up to 90% from Q4 2025. | The inspected page exposed the title, date, and analyst author, but not the detailed text. It does not establish a more specific segment or methodology here. |
| MSI, 2026 | Claims DDR5 prices rose by more than 300% in the preceding six months. | A vendor’s claim, not an independently verified universal retail statistic. MSI attributes market pressure to AI and data-center demand, production allocation, adoption, and constrained fabrication capacity. |
For shoppers, the practical takeaway is limited: these reports describe pressure in parts of the memory market, but they cannot establish whether a compatible kit is in stock or fairly priced where you live. Compare actual listings rather than treating a contract forecast as a retail price.
If your preferred RAM kit is out of stock
Look for another kit supported by your computer or motherboard rather than buying a substitute based only on its brand or advertised speed. Check the system or board documentation and, where available, use a compatibility configurator. MSI’s guide links to Kingston’s memory configurator as a selection aid; confirm that the tool covers your device and region.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Match the supported DDR generation, such as DDR4 or DDR5; these generations are not interchangeable.
- Match the physical form factor required by the device, such as desktop DIMM or laptop SO-DIMM.
- Check supported capacity, module configuration, and memory speed in the system or motherboard documentation.
- Compare the total price, seller reliability, delivery terms, and return window—not just the advertised kit price.
- Avoid mixing modules based only on similar branding or headline speed. Mixed memory may not operate at the advertised profile or may not be supported by the platform.
When a faster-profile kit is worth considering
A kit advertised with an XMP or EXPO profile may initially run at standard JEDEC settings. Using the advertised faster profile depends on support from the CPU, motherboard, and BIOS, and the advertised overclock speed is not guaranteed on every system. Check platform documentation before paying extra for speed; compatibility and sufficient capacity come first. MSI’s guide also explains that profile use depends on compatible hardware and BIOS configuration.

- Wait when performance is acceptable and memory use is not causing a meaningful problem.
- Buy a smaller compatible kit when you need relief from memory pressure but the full target capacity is unaffordable. Make sure the smaller amount still addresses the workload.
- Buy the full upgrade when measured use and application needs justify it, the platform supports it, and the local offer meets your budget and return requirements.
Before choosing, weigh urgency, measured memory use, the system’s upgrade ceiling, the capacity and speed your workload needs, and the opportunity cost of spending on RAM instead of another component. No current price or stock for a specific kit or market is established by the market reports above, so base the purchase on current local listings.
