If Quordle will not open, shows a blank page, or appears to have erased an unfinished game, start with reversible checks: verify the address, reload, test another website, restart or update the browser, and try a private window or a second browser. Do not clear cookies or site data until you know which Quordle version you are using and have accepted the risk of losing locally stored progress.

First, identify which Quordle you are playing

“Quordle” can refer to more than one website or app. The troubleshooting guidance for quordle.uk is not automatically applicable to the official Quordle experience published by Merriam-Webster. Storage, sign-in, support and recovery behavior may differ between them.

Look at the address bar, bookmark, app icon or browser history entry before changing anything. Record the exact site or app name. The steps below label claims that are specific to quordle.uk; they should not be treated as confirmed behavior for the Merriam-Webster version.

When the game will not load: a safe order of checks

Work from the least destructive test to the most disruptive. A blank page can be caused by your connection, device, browser, an extension, security software or the website itself; it is not proof of a Quordle outage.

  1. Check the address and reload. Confirm that the spelling and domain are correct, then use the browser’s reload button. If the page partially loaded, wait briefly and reload once rather than repeatedly opening new tabs.
  2. Open another website. If several unrelated sites also fail, investigate your network or device first. If other sites work normally, the problem is more likely to be limited to the Quordle page, its scripts or your browser’s saved state.
  3. Restart the browser. Close all browser windows, reopen the browser and visit the same address. A restart can release a stalled tab or free memory without deleting saved data.
  4. Update the browser. Install any pending browser update, restart when prompted and try again. Browser support guidance for Chrome and Edge treats updates and restarts as standard loading checks.
  5. Reduce the load on the device. Close unused tabs and demanding apps, especially on a phone or an older computer. Low available memory can prevent a game page or its scripts from finishing.
  6. Use a private window or a different browser. Open an Incognito window in Chrome, an InPrivate window in Edge, or a Private Window in Firefox. Alternatively, test the same site in another installed browser.

Do not clear cookies yet. A private-window or second-browser test does not alter your normal profile, so it is a safer way to isolate the cause.

Use the private-window result to isolate the cause

Test result What it suggests Next action
Loads in a private window but not the normal window An extension, stale cache, cookie or saved site setting may be interfering. Return to the normal window and disable extensions temporarily. Re-enable them one at a time, testing Quordle after each change.
Fails in the normal and private windows but works in another browser The first browser’s profile, settings or installation is implicated. Check browser updates, extensions and site settings in the affected browser before considering a profile reset.
Fails in every browser on one device A network, firewall, antivirus, device or site-specific problem is possible. Try another network or device and compare the result. Do not label it a server outage until those comparisons are made.
Fails on several devices and networks A website-side problem becomes more plausible, although the test still does not prove an outage. Note the time, exact address and screen message, then check the site’s own status or support information if available.

Chrome’s game troubleshooting guidance recommends the isolate-and-test approach: if the game works in Incognito, pause extensions and turn them back on individually to find a conflict. An extension that blocks scripts, modifies pages or filters content can affect one site while leaving others usable.

Check the connection, network and security software

If the page fails outside your normal browser profile, compare networks. Switch from Wi‑Fi to mobile data, or connect to a different trusted Wi‑Fi network. A result that changes with the network points toward routing, DNS filtering, a captive portal or a security policy rather than a damaged Quordle save.

VPNs, antivirus products, firewalls and script-blocking extensions are diagnostic possibilities, not confirmed Quordle causes. If you temporarily pause one of these controls, do so only long enough to test, use a trusted network, and restore protection immediately afterward. On a work, school or public network, an administrator may intentionally block game scripts; use an approved connection rather than bypassing policy.

Also check the device clock, available storage and operating-system updates. These checks are useful when many sites behave strangely, but they do not establish that Quordle itself is unavailable.

Browser-specific troubleshooting

Chrome

  • Open an Incognito window from the three-dot menu and load the same Quordle address.
  • If it works there, open Extensions, switch extensions off temporarily and test the normal window. Turn them on one at a time to identify the conflict.
  • Install any Chrome update, restart Chrome and close excess tabs.
  • Use clearing of cached files or cookies only after protecting any progress that may be stored locally. Clearing browsing data can remove website settings and saved game state.

Microsoft Edge

  • Try an InPrivate window and then a second browser.
  • Review active tabs, installed extensions and recently added apps. Close unnecessary tabs and restart Edge.
  • Check for an Edge update and test whether security software is blocking the page.
  • Clear cached data only as a later step, because site data can include settings or game information.

Firefox

  • Restart Firefox and test a Private Window.
  • Use Firefox’s Troubleshoot Mode to disable extensions, themes and hardware acceleration temporarily. If Quordle works there, restore items one at a time.
  • Clear cookies or cache only when the safer tests have failed and you understand what data the site may lose.

Browser menus change, so the wording on your version may differ slightly. Use the current help instructions built into your browser for the exact menu path.

Why an unfinished game, streak or stats can appear to vanish

quordle.uk

The quordle.uk troubleshooting guide says its in-progress game and statistics are tied to the same browser and device. It also says the site has no account or sign-in system and stores this information in that browser on that device. Under that model, opening a new browser, switching devices, using a private window or clearing browser data can make a familiar game look like a new session.

Return to the exact browser and device you used originally. Exit any private window, use the same normal profile and confirm that you have not cleared cookies or site storage. If the device was reset, the browser profile was replaced or its site data was deleted, the guide does not promise a restoration path.

The Merriam-Webster version and other Quordle-branded experiences

Do not transfer the quordle.uk storage explanation to the official Merriam-Webster game or another Quordle-branded app. The available information does not establish how those versions save unfinished games, streaks or statistics, nor whether they can restore them after data loss. Check that product’s own account and support documentation before deleting data or assuming that a browser sign-in will recover a game.

Before clearing cookies, cache or site data

Clearing data is sometimes useful for a corrupted page, but it is the step most likely to remove local settings and progress. Treat it as a last resort when a game history matters.

  1. Identify the exact Quordle site or app.
  2. Record the browser, device and normal/private status of the session.
  3. Try reload, restart, update, a private window, another browser and another network first.
  4. For quordle.uk, return to the original browser and device and check whether the game reappears before deleting anything.
  5. If you still choose to clear data, use the browser’s site-specific controls where available rather than deleting all browsing history. Read the confirmation screen carefully and understand that locally stored game state may not be recoverable.

Signing into a browser account, reinstalling the browser or using a cleanup utility should not be presented as a guaranteed recovery method. No confirmed recovery procedure is established here for lost Quordle progress.

What to record if the problem continues

Good diagnostic details make a site-specific report more useful and prevent support from having to guess which product you used.

  • The exact Quordle address or app name.
  • Device type and operating-system version.
  • Browser name and version, or the app version.
  • Whether the page is blank, stuck loading, showing an error message or starting a new game.
  • The date and approximate time the problem began.
  • Whether other websites load.
  • Results from a private window, another browser, another device and another network.
  • Whether cookies, cache, extensions, VPN or security software were changed.
  • A screenshot, provided it does not expose private information.

The quordle.uk guide requests this kind of information, including a screenshot when possible, for reports about that site. Do not assume that process is official Merriam-Webster support; use the support route belonging to the exact version you identified.

A compact decision path

Symptom Best next step Avoid for now
Blank page or endless loading Reload, test another site, restart or update the browser, then try private mode. Repeatedly clearing all browsing data.
Works privately but not normally Disable extensions and re-enable them individually; inspect cached site settings. Assuming the Quordle server is down.
Works on another network Investigate Wi‑Fi, DNS, VPN, firewall or network filtering. Deleting the browser profile.
Unfinished game missing on quordle.uk Return to the original browser and device and leave local data intact. Clearing cookies or using a private window as a substitute.
Stats missing on an unspecified Quordle version Identify the product first and consult that product’s support information. Assuming quordle.uk’s storage rules apply everywhere.

How to reduce the chance of losing a session

  • Keep the same normal browser profile and device for quordle.uk games.
  • Do not use a private window for a session whose progress you need to revisit.
  • Before clearing browser data, check whether the site stores games or statistics locally.
  • Keep the browser reasonably current and close tabs when the device is short on memory.
  • When troubleshooting, change one variable at a time and write down the result. This makes it possible to reverse a change and identify the actual cause.

The safest general rule is simple: isolate the problem before you reset anything. Reloading, comparing sites and networks, and testing a private window can reveal whether the failure belongs to the connection, browser or website while preserving the data that may contain your game.
