A run of painful rolls does not, by itself, show that an online backgammon service is cheating or malfunctioning. Treat it as a question to investigate: preserve the complete match record, read the service’s explanation of its random-number generator, check any independently issued certification, separate move quality from luck, and report specific evidence through the platform’s support channel.
The steps below help you investigate without mistaking a memorable streak for proof. They also show what a fairness claim can—and cannot—establish.
Start with the evidence limit
Backgammon dice are random outcomes, so unusual sequences can occur without a biased generator. Backgammon.com’s Fair Dice explanation notes that random results can cluster and that painful, memorable outcomes may make a run feel targeted. That is the platform’s explanation, not an independent study of every service or a guarantee about a particular match.

A streak of doubles, repeated hits, or several missed escapes is a reason to preserve and review the record—not a diagnosis.

Preserve the complete match before doing anything else
Online games may retain server-side records for a limited period, and screenshots of a few turns can omit context. Save what the service makes available while the match is easy to identify.
Use this evidence checklist
- Match or game ID: Copy the identifier exactly as displayed.
- Date and time: Include your time zone if the service displays one, and note whether the timestamp is local or UTC.
- Player identities: Record usernames, account IDs or guest identifiers for both sides.
- Full roll history: Export the log if there is a download option. Otherwise capture every roll from the beginning of the game or match, not only the surprising turns.
- Board and move context: Save screenshots or a replay showing the position before each disputed roll. A roll can look suspicious when the preceding legal move is misunderstood.
- Software context: Note the app or browser, version if shown, device and connection problems such as reconnects or delayed updates.
Do not edit a sequence, reorder rolls, or report only the most dramatic examples. Preserve an untouched copy and, if needed, make a separate document that marks the turns you want support to examine.
Read what the platform actually claims about its dice
Fairness pages differ in detail. Look for a description of where rolls are generated, the random-number generator (RNG) identified, any test or certification, and the dates and systems covered. A marketing summary is not the same as the certifier’s original record, and a statement about one service says nothing about another.

Backgammon.com and the reported GLI evaluation
Backgammon.com says on its Gaming Labs Certification page that Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) evaluated its RNG in July 2026. The page describes testing for unpredictability, uniform distribution and statistical randomness. Attribute those details to Backgammon.com unless you have opened the underlying GLI certificate yourself.

If you investigate that claim, check the certificate or issuing record for the exact product or RNG, software version, test scope, evaluation date, validity period and any conditions. A certificate for a particular system does not automatically audit every game, later software change or unrelated platform. The platform’s summary is useful documentation of what it says; it is not independent proof on its own.
Other services’ explanations are service-specific
Backgammon Live (through Come2Play Support) answers “Are your dice real?” at its support article. Backgammon Galaxy explains its dice rolls at its support article. Each page describes that operator’s own service. Neither establishes how another game generates or checks rolls.
Separate luck from the quality of your decisions
A bad result can come from a sound move followed by unlucky rolls, or from a poor move that made later rolls look especially damaging. Analyze those questions separately.

Use the platform’s move analysis or a trusted backgammon analysis tool to examine each decision before looking at the result. Ask whether an alternative move improved your position, reduced exposure to a hit, or increased your winning chances under the same roll. Record the decision quality independently from whether the next roll helped.

Backgammon.com says its match analysis can review decisions move by move. That can identify strategic errors, but it does not validate or invalidate the RNG. A match with excellent moves can still be lost to variance; a match with unfair rolls would not make weak moves correct.
Interpret roll statistics cautiously
Backgammon Galaxy says users can view dice statistics on their profile. Statistics can describe the rolls that were recorded, but the available material does not establish that the feature alone detects manipulation. Before drawing a conclusion, determine:
- How many rolls are included and over what date range?
- Are the counts per player, per match, per game or across an entire account?
- Are doubles counted as a separate category, and how are combined dice represented?
- Can you export the underlying sequence, or do you see only aggregate totals?
- Does the service explain its expected baseline and statistical method?
A small sample can produce visibly uneven totals by chance. Even a large deviation is a prompt for technical review, not proof of intent, unless the method, sample and independent verification support that conclusion.

Check certification without overstating what it proves
When a service cites an outside laboratory, use a verification checklist rather than treating the logo or name as a blanket guarantee.

Do not generalize a July 2026 statement about Backgammon.com to Backgammon Live, Backgammon Galaxy or any other service. Compare each service’s own documentation and the inspectable evidence behind it.
Report a concrete concern through the correct route
Support teams can investigate a server-side record only when they can locate it. Send a concise report with the preserved evidence rather than an accusation based on a feeling.
- Identify the game: Provide the match ID, date and time, player names or IDs, and the app or website used.
- Describe the observation: List the exact roll numbers or turns that seemed inconsistent and explain why, without labeling the cause as proven.
- Attach the full record: Include the complete roll history, replay or unedited screenshots when available.
- Ask a specific question: Request review of the server-side roll log and confirmation of which RNG and software version generated those rolls.
- Keep the correspondence: Save your ticket number, reply dates and any explanation or correction supplied by support.
Backgammon Live directs players to support for suspected opponent cheating. Backgammon Galaxy describes an in-game Fair Play reporting path in its fair-play rules article. These are platform-specific routes, not a universal reporting standard, and neither source promises a particular outcome.

If support cannot answer your technical questions or the available records are too limited for you to evaluate, you can choose whether to continue playing. Compare services using the same questions rather than ranking them on anecdotes.

The available sources do not provide a uniform, independent audit across platforms, so this checklist is for informed questions—not a league table or proof that one service is fairer than another.
Offline dice can change the setting, not audit an online game
Playing with a physical set is a reasonable alternative if you no longer trust an online service. It removes the online generator from that game, but it cannot prove that a previous online RNG was biased or reconstruct missing server records.
The World Backgammon Federation’s Tournament Rules, August 2023 edition, states in the section “(i) RANDOM DICE”: “The use of dice is a means of obtaining random numbers ranging from 1 to 6. Any other use of the dice is a breach of the rules and the spirit of backgammon.” This describes the role of dice in play; it is not an online-RNG audit. Check the federation’s site for a newer rules edition before relying on the 2023 wording for tournament procedures.

- Using a streak as the entire argument: Clusters occur in random sequences, so identify the full record and method instead.
- Showing only selected turns: Selective screenshots prevent support or another player from checking context.
- Confusing a lost game with a bad RNG: Review legal moves and position changes separately from the roll outcome.
- Treating an aggregate chart as a verdict: Ask about sample size, definitions and the underlying sequence.
- Assuming certification is continuous surveillance: Check the tested system, date, scope and validity.
- Generalizing one operator’s statement: Every service must be assessed from its own documentation.
- Waiting to save the match: Preserve the identifier and log before reporting or uninstalling an app.
A practical decision path
Use this order when you are unsure what to do next:
