When Mint Mobile stops working, begin with the least disruptive checks: note whether the status bar says “SOS,” “No Service” or “Searching,” determine whether calls, texts and data all fail or only one service does, then restart the phone, turn off airplane mode, install pending software updates and confirm that the Mint line is enabled. Check coverage at your location before changing network settings.

Next, use the branch that matches your situation: reseat a physical SIM or toggle an eSIM, verify activation and line selection, repair Android APN settings for data or picture messaging, check roaming settings when abroad, and verify VoLTE on older phones. Leave a network-settings reset and Mint support for the end because the reset removes saved Wi-Fi and other network information.

First, identify exactly what stopped working

The status-bar message and the services affected point to different fixes. Write down what you see before changing anything:

What you notice Most useful first branch
“SOS,” “No Service” or “Searching” Check coverage, airplane mode, software, SIM or eSIM state, selected line and activation status.
Calls, texts and mobile data all fail Treat it as a network-registration, SIM/eSIM, activation, coverage or device-compatibility problem.
Calls work but mobile data or picture messages fail Check mobile-data selection and Android APN settings; iPhones generally receive internet and MMS settings automatically.
The problem began after activation, a number port or a phone change Verify that the handset is unlocked, the transfer is complete and the Mint line is active and selected.
The problem occurs outside the United States Check the roaming pass, Data Roaming, Wi-Fi calling and APN settings, then retry cellular service.
Calls alone fail on an older phone Check VoLTE and the phone’s compatibility with Mint’s post-2G network requirements.

Also test in a second location. Mint notes that rural areas, thick-walled buildings and underground spaces can weaken or block service. Its coverage map is a useful way to distinguish a location-specific signal problem from a phone or account problem.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Run the safe, reversible checks

  1. Restart the phone. A restart can make the handset register with the network again.
  2. Turn airplane mode off. If it is already off, turn it on for about 10 seconds and turn it off again to force a fresh cellular search.
  3. Install phone software updates. Use the system update screen and complete any pending update before testing calls or data again.
  4. Confirm the Mint line is enabled. In the SIM, Mobile Network or Cellular settings, make sure the Mint line is switched on and selected for voice, text and mobile data. Menu names vary by phone.
  5. Check network selection. Leave network selection on automatic unless Mint Care has given you a specific manual choice. A manually selected network can prevent registration when you move locations.
  6. Inspect SIM profiles. If the phone has more than one physical SIM or eSIM, temporarily disable lines you are not testing. Multiple active profiles can make the wrong line handle calls or data, and some phones have a limit on how many profiles can be active.
  7. Handle the SIM according to its type. Power the phone down if the manufacturer recommends it, remove a physical Mint SIM, check that it is seated correctly, and reinsert it. Mint says reseating can trigger network registration. An eSIM cannot be reseated: switch the Mint eSIM off and back on instead. Do not delete the eSIM as though it were a removable card.
  8. Test cellular without Wi-Fi calling. Temporarily turn Wi-Fi calling off and place a call or load a webpage over cellular. Weak or unstable Wi-Fi can interfere with Wi-Fi calling, so this test separates a Wi-Fi path problem from a mobile-network problem.

After each change, test the specific service that failed. If only one location is affected while service works elsewhere, coverage or building conditions are more likely than an APN or SIM fault.

If service failed after activation, a port or a phone change

Confirm the phone is unlocked

A handset that is still locked to its previous carrier cannot use a Mint SIM. Ask the former carrier to complete its unlock process, then restart and test the Mint line.

Finish a number transfer before installing an eSIM

For a ported number, Mint’s activation guidance says to complete the transfer before installing the eSIM. Installing it too early can leave the line in an incomplete state.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Verify eSIM support and line assignment

Check that the handset model supports eSIM if that is the activation method. Confirm that the Mint eSIM is active and assigned to voice and mobile data. While diagnosing, deactivate other cellular lines so the phone cannot silently use a different profile.

When SOS remains after activation checks

Complete the unlock, transfer, eSIM and line-selection checks, then try registration again. Do not remove a functioning eSIM to “reseat” it. If the phone remains on SOS or No Service, contact Mint from another phone or another internet connection so Care can inspect activation and provisioning without disconnecting your only communication channel.

Fix Android mobile data and picture messaging with the Mint APN

When calls and ordinary texts work but Android data or MMS picture messages do not, the Access Point Name (APN) may be missing or incorrect. Mint supports texting SETUP to 6700 to send settings where that option is supported. You can also enter the values manually through the phone’s Mobile Network or Access Point Names screen.

Enter, save and test the APN

  1. Open Settings and search for Access Point Names, APNs or Mobile network.
  2. Create a new APN or edit the Mint profile.
  3. Enter the published values exactly, including capitalization, commas and the complete MMSC address.
  4. Save the profile and select it as the active APN. On some phones, you must tap a menu button before the Save option appears.
  5. Turn Wi-Fi off, restart the phone, then test a webpage and send a picture message.

If the APN menu is absent or the settings will not save, the manufacturer’s software may restrict carrier editing. Use the SETUP text option where supported or ask Mint Care for device-specific instructions. iPhones are described by Mint as likely to receive internet and MMS setup automatically; check that the Mint line is selected for cellular data before pursuing manual changes.

When you are traveling outside the United States

International service requires an active roaming pass and different phone settings. Check the pass before changing the APN.

  1. Open the Mint app or account and confirm that the international roaming pass is active and has not expired. Mint also provides GOROAM as a text option to 6700.
  2. Enable Data Roaming for the Mint line in Cellular or Mobile Network settings.
  3. Turn airplane mode on for 10 seconds, turn it off, and allow the phone to search for a partner network.
  4. Temporarily disable Wi-Fi calling and test a call or webpage over cellular. If Wi-Fi is unreliable, it can obscure whether roaming registration succeeded.
  5. Verify the APN, especially if data works domestically but not abroad.

If the phone still cannot connect, contact Mint Care from a different device or line. Keep the roaming-pass status, country, error message and the time of the failed attempt available for the representative.

Use Wi-Fi calling deliberately

Wi-Fi calling can provide calling and texting when indoor cellular signal is weak, but it depends on a stable Wi-Fi connection and correct account setup. Enable the feature in your Mint account if required, enter the requested emergency address, and then turn on Wi-Fi calling in the phone’s Cellular or Mobile Network settings. The exact menu varies by iOS and Android version; searching Settings for “Wi-Fi calling” is usually fastest.

Use Wi-Fi calling as a controlled test, not as a cure for every cellular problem. If cellular service is the issue, disable Wi-Fi calling temporarily and test the mobile network. If Wi-Fi calling itself fails, try a different Wi-Fi network and verify that the emergency address and Mint account setup are complete.

Older phones, VoLTE and calls that stopped working

Mint warned that 2G and 3G phones, plus some older 4G phones without Voice over LTE (VoLTE), can lose service when legacy networks are retired. Mint’s stated 2G shutdown deadline was August 3, 2026; that date has passed. The impact can include emergency calling, not just ordinary voice calls.

Check the exact phone model with Mint’s compatibility tool and look for a VoLTE or “4G Calling” switch in the phone’s cellular settings. Turn VoLTE on when the handset supports it, then restart and test an outgoing call. A phone that cannot meet Mint’s compatibility requirements may need replacement with an unlocked VoLTE-compatible 4G LTE or 5G phone. Before buying, verify the exact model, unlocked status, physical-SIM or eSIM requirement, and compatibility with Mint rather than relying on a broad family name.

Reset network settings only as the final self-service step

A network-settings reset can clear a corrupted cellular or Wi-Fi configuration, but it is disruptive. Mint describes it as the final step because it removes saved network information, including Wi-Fi passwords and saved networks. It does not replace an activation, unlock or compatibility fix.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Make sure you know the passwords for the Wi-Fi networks you use.
  2. Open Settings and search for Reset network settings, Reset Wi-Fi, mobile and Bluetooth or the equivalent label.
  3. Confirm the reset, allow the phone to restart if requested, reconnect to Wi-Fi and recheck the Mint line and APN.
  4. Test calls, texts and mobile data before restoring additional SIM profiles or custom network selections.

When to contact Mint Care

Escalate after completing the checks that match your symptom: coverage and basic settings for SOS, activation and line selection after a port, APN configuration for Android data or MMS, roaming-pass checks abroad, and VoLTE compatibility for an older handset. Do not keep deleting and reinstalling an eSIM or repeatedly resetting the network when the underlying issue is account provisioning or an incompatible phone.

Mint lists phone support at (800) 683-7392 and also offers chat. If your Mint phone cannot make calls or connect to data, use another phone or an available Wi-Fi connection. Tell Care the status-bar message, which services fail, your location or travel country, whether the line was recently activated or ported, the SIM type, phone model, and the troubleshooting steps already completed. That information helps the representative separate a coverage event from an account, SIM/eSIM or device problem.
