A tracking page that has not changed does not, by itself, prove that your parcel is lost or stationary. First verify the identifier, check the carrier’s own tracking page, record the last scan and status, then ask the sender to raise an enquiry. For India Post, you can also contact customer care or file a formally acknowledged complaint at the post office where the booking transaction occurred. Blue Dart publishes a 45-day tracking-availability window, but neither carrier’s official guidance establishes a universal interval between scans or a fixed number of silent days that means a shipment is lost.
What a tracking pause actually means
“Stops updating” describes the information visible to you, not necessarily the parcel’s physical movement. A shipment may be travelling between facilities, waiting for the next operational scan, affected by a network delay, or held while an address or delivery exception is resolved. The official material for Blue Dart and India Post does not promise a common scan frequency, so there is no reliable rule such as “no update for 24, 48, or 72 hours means the parcel is lost.”
Use the last recorded event as evidence, not as a diagnosis. Note its date, location and exact wording. A scan that names a hub tells you where the carrier last recorded the item; it does not establish that the item remains there. Similarly, a status that signals delay is useful information but is not a delivery-date guarantee.
Do these checks before contacting anyone
- Find the original identifier. Copy the number from the sender’s dispatch message, booking receipt or shipping label. Do not rely on a shortened order number unless the carrier specifically supports reference-number lookup.
- Use the carrier’s official tracker. Open Blue Dart’s TrackDart page for a Blue Dart shipment, or India Post’s Track Consignment page for an India Post item. India Post’s form requires the consignment number and the security code shown on the page.
- Try the supported alternative. Blue Dart says a shipment may be found with a waybill number or, when the shipment was set up for it, a reference or order number. A Blue Dart waybill can be eight to 11 digits according to its tracking instructions.
- Check every character. Re-enter the identifier manually if copying introduced a space, punctuation mark or missing digit. Confirm that you are using the shipping identifier rather than an invoice, marketplace or internal order number.
- Capture the evidence. Save a screenshot showing the latest event, date, location and status text. Keep the dispatch date, destination postcode, receipt and sender’s details with it.
Checking an unrelated tracking aggregator cannot create a new carrier scan. If the official page is quiet, the useful next step is to contact the sender or carrier, not to assume that a third-party page has fresher data.

Blue Dart: how to handle a stale status
Confirm the waybill or reference
Blue Dart’s “How to Track” instructions cover domestic shipments in India and international shipments. Enter the waybill on TrackDart, or use the reference number if the shipper configured one for the booking. Check the sender’s receipt because a merchant’s order ID may not be a valid Blue Dart reference.
Understand the 45-day tracking rule
Blue Dart states: “Shipments can be tracked for a period of 45 days from the date of despatch.” This is the period for which tracking is available; it is not a promised transit time, delivery estimate or deadline by which every scan must appear. If an older shipment no longer returns a result, verify the dispatch date and ask the sender for the booking record.
Read the exact event wording
Blue Dart tracking examples show dated hub events and can display the phrase “Network Delay, Will Impact Delivery.” Treat that phrase as an operational status for the shipment shown. It indicates that the network expects an effect on delivery, but it does not specify how long the delay will last or establish a universal update schedule.

Send the screenshot and identifier to the merchant or person who booked the shipment. The sender often has the payment, booking receipt and account access needed to open a carrier enquiry. Blue Dart’s retrieved tracking material does not establish a dedicated stale-status phone number, a guaranteed response time or a mandatory waiting period. Use the current official Blue Dart Contact Us or support page for contact details, or ask the sender to contact the booking channel. Verify any number or form on the live Blue Dart site before using it.

India Post: tracking, customer care and formal complaints
Check Track Consignment correctly
Open India Post’s official Track Consignment page, enter the consignment number exactly as printed on the receipt or supplied by the sender, and complete the displayed security code. Save the last event and its date. If the page rejects the number, ask the sender to confirm whether a digit was omitted or whether the item was booked under a different service or receipt.
Call the published customer-care line
India Post lists customer care at 1800 266 6868. The published contact information lists live call-centre agents from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and an IVRS service 24 hours a day, including Sundays, except on gazetted holidays. Contact details can change, so confirm the current hours on India Post’s Contact Us page. Have the consignment number, booking date, origin and destination postcodes, latest scan and sender information ready before calling.
Register a complaint at the transaction post office
For a service complaint, India Post’s complaint guidance says: “Register your complaint in the Post Office where transaction has taken place and get acknowledgement.” In practical terms, start with the post office where the booking transaction occurred and ask the Postmaster or person in charge to register the complaint. The guidance also identifies the Senior Superintendent or Superintendent of Post Offices as a supervisory route.

Request a written or otherwise identifiable acknowledgement and keep it with your receipt and screenshots. An acknowledgement gives you a reference for follow-up; it does not itself establish that the item is lost or guarantee a particular resolution date.

Escalate through the published chain
If the complaint is not resolved in a reasonable time, approach the next higher authority using the current India Post complaint guidance and directory. If you remain dissatisfied with the department’s action, the guidance describes the Directorate of Public Grievances as a further route. For delayed or non-delivered Speed Post, Express Parcel, Business Parcel, Logistics Post and other premium products, India Post lists additional Postal Directorate contacts by product category. Confirm the responsible office and current contact details in the live directory before sending a follow-up.

What to send the seller, sender or carrier
A complete enquiry is easier to investigate than a message saying only “tracking is stuck.” Include:
- the full waybill or consignment number, copied exactly;
- the dispatch or booking date and the origin and destination postcodes;
- the last scan date, facility or city and exact status text;
- a screenshot of the official tracking page;
- the receipt, invoice or dispatch notification;
- the recipient’s name, address and a reliable contact number; and
- any complaint or call reference already issued.
Ask the sender to confirm whether the label was accepted, whether the address is complete and whether an enquiry has been opened. If the sender purchased the label, ask for the enquiry reference and the next action rather than an unsupported delivery prediction.
When a delay may need urgent attention
Escalate promptly when the status explicitly reports a network delay, address problem, delivery exception or attempted delivery that does not match what happened. Also act quickly if the seller’s promised dispatch or delivery commitment has expired, if the parcel contains time-sensitive documents or medication, or if the tracking number is suddenly invalid after previously working. These circumstances justify contacting the sender and carrier; they still do not prove that the parcel is lost.

For an ordinary pause with no exception message, continue with the verification and enquiry sequence. Do not invent a waiting threshold from the absence of a scan. The carriers’ published material does not define one common interval between events.

Using an order number as the tracking number
Marketplace order IDs often look like shipment references but may not be recognized by the carrier. Compare the number with the dispatch receipt and request the carrier identifier from the sender.
Assuming the 45-day Blue Dart window is a delivery deadline
The 45-day statement concerns access to tracking from dispatch. It does not say that delivery will occur within 45 days or that a parcel is lost after a shorter period.

Leaving an India Post complaint without proof
Ask for the acknowledgement described in India Post’s complaint guidance. Record the office, date, complaint subject and reference, then retain copies of every document.
Repeating the same complaint without the latest evidence
When following up, attach the original acknowledgement and add the newest scan or failed delivery attempt. A dated chronology helps the next authority understand what has already been done.
A concise action plan
- Verify the identifier against the sender’s receipt or dispatch notice.
- Run it on the correct official carrier tracker; complete India Post’s security code.
- Record the latest scan, date, location and exact status, and save a screenshot.
- Send those details to the sender and ask them to open an enquiry if they arranged the shipment.
- For India Post, call customer care or register at the transaction post office and retain the acknowledgement.
- If an India Post complaint remains unresolved in a reasonable time, follow the published supervisory chain and current Directorate of Public Grievances route.
- For Blue Dart, use the current official support page or the sender’s booking channel because the retrieved guidance does not publish a universal stale-status deadline.
The practical conclusion is simple: a quiet tracking page is a reason to verify and enquire, not a diagnosis of loss. Keep the original records, use official channels and let the carrier investigation—not an invented scan timetable—determine what happened.
