A dot on an LG OLED screen is not automatically a dead pixel. First determine whether it appears on the television’s own menus and on more than one input, then check HDMI connections and the source device. If the mark remains, run LG’s built-in Pixel Cleaning (also called Pixel Refresher) using the menu path for your model year. That maintenance cycle is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed repair. A persistent mark should be documented and referred to LG support or an authorized technician for a model- and warranty-specific decision.
Do not press the panel, apply a cleaner, or rely on a “pixel fixer” video. Those actions cannot restore a physically inactive OLED pixel and can create additional damage.
Confirm that the mark belongs to the TV
A true panel defect remains in the same physical location while the picture changes. A source or signal problem can look similar but will usually be limited to a particular channel, streaming service, HDMI input, or connected device. LG’s own troubleshooting guidance says to check external devices, HDMI connections, broadcast signals, and internet or service issues before treating a spot as a panel fault.

- Pause the external source and open the LG home screen or Settings menu.
- Look at a plain, light area of a built-in screen. You can also switch among several internal menus so the background changes.
- Note whether the mark stays in exactly the same location. A panel pixel stays fixed relative to the screen; an artifact generated by a video source may disappear when that source is removed.
If you cannot see the mark on any built-in screen, do not declare the panel defective yet. Continue with the input and source checks below.

Change inputs and content
- Switch between the TV’s built-in apps, live broadcast, and each HDMI input.
- Try more than one channel or streaming title. A spot that appears on only one channel or service is more likely to be a broadcast, network, or app problem.
- If the mark follows one set-top box, game console, or media player, test that device on another display if possible.
- Reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends, then power-cycle the external device and the TV. Use the remote to turn the TV off normally rather than cutting power at a wall switch.
A mark visible on every input and on the LG interface is much more consistent with a panel issue, but only LG or a qualified technician can determine whether it meets the applicable service terms.
Run LG Pixel Cleaning for your model
LG calls the built-in maintenance feature Pixel Cleaning on newer sets and Pixel Refresher on some earlier webOS versions. It is part of the television; you do not install software or connect an accessory. Menu labels can differ by exact model, region, and software revision, so use the owner’s manual if your screen does not match one of these routes.

How to start the cycle safely
- Save or stop anything you are watching and open the appropriate menu path above.
- Choose Pixel Cleaning or Pixel Refresher and follow the on-screen confirmation.
- When the television finishes or asks to turn off, use the remote’s power button. Leave the set connected to mains power.
- Do not unplug the television during the maintenance operation. Let it complete before judging the result.
LG says the TV can run Pixel Cleaning automatically after it is turned off. That automatic maintenance requires the television to remain plugged in and to be switched off with the remote, not disconnected from power. The cited LG guidance tells owners to run the feature as directed; it does not promise that repeated manual cycles will revive a dead pixel. Running the procedure over and over is therefore not a substitute for service.

What the result means
The mark disappears
If the dot is gone after the cycle, continue using the TV normally and keep the set’s automatic maintenance enabled. Record what you observed in case the symptom returns. A disappearing mark does not prove that the original cause was a permanently inactive pixel; source, processing, or temporary panel behavior can produce similar symptoms.
The mark remains in every source
A persistent dot after source checks and the model-appropriate Pixel Cleaning cycle should be treated as a suspected panel defect. Do not promise yourself a panel exchange based on one spot. Contact LG support or request a technician so the symptom can be assessed against the exact model’s service policy.
The mark changes color or location
Changing behavior points away from a single fixed inactive pixel and toward the source, cable, processing, or another display issue. Repeat the input isolation steps, test built-in content, and capture photographs that show the symptom and the screen used to produce it.

Prepare an effective LG support request
Support can make a warranty decision only after matching the symptom to the product and the applicable market terms. Gather this information before you contact LG:

- The original purchase or delivery date and the seller’s invoice. LG’s U.S. limited-warranty language calls for the original sales invoice for warranty service.
- Your country or market and confirmation that you are the original purchaser, where those conditions apply.
- A sharp photograph of the mark on a plain, bright image, plus a second photograph showing the TV’s model label.
- Which built-in menus, apps, broadcast channels, and HDMI inputs show the mark, and which do not.
- The HDMI cable and external device used during testing, along with the result of reconnecting and power-cycling them.
- The Pixel Cleaning or Pixel Refresher menu path you used and whether the mark changed afterward.
Describe the location in screen terms, such as “three centimetres from the right edge and near the vertical centre,” rather than relying on a temporary on-screen pointer. Keep the original image files; compressed messaging screenshots may hide a single-pixel defect.
How LG warranty language applies
There is no universal answer to “Is one dead pixel covered?” Coverage depends on the exact model, purchase date, country, original-purchaser status, and the wording in the warranty supplied with that television. A support representative must apply those terms to the documented symptom.

LG’s U.S. limited-warranty document includes this statement: "Your Product’s display contains many individual pixels, and typically a small number of pixels do not function normally." That sentence explains that a small number of abnormal pixels can exist within the display specification; it is not a blanket promise that every visible pixel defect is excluded, nor is it a universal replacement threshold.

These U.S. terms apply only within their stated product, purchaser, and geographic scope, and warranty language can change. A television bought or used outside the United States may have different duration, exclusions, pixel criteria, or service arrangements. Check the paperwork that came with your set and ask LG to confirm the current terms for your model.
Why a pixel count is not a repair decision
LG USA Support has published a general TV explanation saying that approximately one inactive pixel per million (about 1 PPM) may appear as a fine dot and that such dots do not affect product performance and reliability. The same explanation describes a display as containing approximately two million to six million pixels. Those figures are broad context for TV displays, not an OLED-specific acceptable-defect threshold and not a warranty rule. They cannot determine whether your individual mark qualifies for repair or replacement.

A visible dot can also be larger than one pixel, can be caused by a source, or can indicate a different panel condition. The only useful decision is whether the symptom persists across built-in content and whether LG’s applicable terms classify it as a covered defect.

What not to use as a “fix”
- Do not press, rub, or massage the panel. OLED layers are delicate, and physical pressure can turn a small mark into permanent damage.
- Do not spray cleaner directly on the screen. Cleaning removes surface dust; it does not reactivate an OLED pixel. Follow the TV manual’s cleaning method if the panel is dirty.
- Do not treat flashing videos or generic pixel-repair software as an LG repair procedure. They cannot repair a physically inactive panel pixel and may complicate diagnosis.
- Do not unplug the TV immediately after every shutdown. LG says automatic Pixel Cleaning can run while the set is off, so cutting power prevents that maintenance opportunity.
- Do not assume a replacement is guaranteed. LG’s warranty language recognizes that a small number of pixels may not function normally, while separately providing repair or replacement for defects covered by the applicable terms.
Keep a short troubleshooting record
Write down the date, input, app or channel, background color, and whether the mark appeared on a built-in menu. Add the model and serial numbers, the Pixel Cleaning date, and photographs before and after the cycle. This record prevents repeated tests, helps support reproduce the symptom, and gives you evidence if the dot changes over time.
The practical sequence is therefore simple: isolate the source, use LG’s built-in maintenance feature once according to the model’s instructions, and escalate a persistent mark with complete product and purchase information. That approach avoids unsafe “fixes” and leaves the warranty decision to the terms that actually govern your television.
