A rejected app coupon is usually an eligibility or checkout-condition problem, not a broken phone. Open the offer’s terms, then check the code, account, redemption channel, cart, location, currency, expiry and competing discounts in that order. If every condition is satisfied, verify whether the discount appears on the final receipt and ask the issuer or app support to investigate the exact error.
Run these checks in order
Use this sequence before changing devices or reinstalling the app. Each issuer defines its own rules, so the wording and menu names can differ.
- Read the offer terms. Confirm the expiry or redemption period, eligible products, minimum qualifying subtotal, customer status, account, payment method, country or region, currency and rules about combining offers.
- Re-enter the code. Check every character, capitalization and similar-looking letters. Google Play specifically advises entering a code without spaces or dashes when redeeming its promotions.
- Use the correct account and channel. Sign in to the account that received the offer and redeem it where the terms require. Some promotions work only inside the app or only on a particular platform.
- Inspect the cart. Remove excluded products only when the offer terms identify them as ineligible. Check that the qualifying subtotal, rather than the total after shipping, taxes or other reductions, reaches any minimum.
- Check place and time. Verify the country, delivery or billing location, currency and the precise cutoff stated by the promotion. A displayed end date is not necessarily valid through the end of that day in every time zone.
- Confirm the result before paying. Look for a discount or “Promotion” line in the order summary or receipt. If the terms appear satisfied but the error remains, save the exact message and contact the issuer or app support.
Do not assume that reinstalling the app, switching phones or buying a troubleshooting utility can change an offer’s account, cart or geographic eligibility. Those steps may fix a software fault, but they do not override promotion terms.

Start with the offer’s terms
A code can be genuine and still fail because the current order does not match its conditions. Open the message, banner, email, account page or help article where the promotion was issued; that version of the terms controls the redemption.
Expiry and redemption window
Check both the date and any stated time zone. Some offers have a separate activation or redemption period, and a code that was valid when received may already be expired. Google Store’s promotion guidance treats the individual offer terms as the authority for validity and restrictions.

Eligible products and brands
Read the exclusions rather than judging eligibility from the product name. A code may apply to one category, size, seller or subscription tier but not another. If the app identifies an ineligible item, compare that item with the written terms before removing anything from the cart.
Minimum qualifying spend
Determine which subtotal counts. Shipping, taxes, tips, gift cards and another discount may not contribute to the threshold. Add only eligible items until the qualifying subtotal reaches the amount specified by the offer; do not rely on the grand total shown at checkout.
Customer, account and payment restrictions
Promotions can be limited to new customers, a particular account, one redemption per person or a particular payment method. A family member’s account, a guest checkout or a different sign-in can therefore produce an eligibility error even when the code itself is correct.
Combination rules
Look for wording such as “cannot be combined,” “one per order” or “not valid with other offers.” Google Store says multiple promotion codes generally cannot be applied to one order. Other services use different logic: iHerb documents cases where its system automatically selects the highest discount. Treat those as service-specific examples, not universal rules.
Correct code-entry and “invalid” errors
Type the code again instead of relying on an old clipboard entry. Check whether the app expects letters, numbers or a particular punctuation mark, and remove spaces or dashes when its instructions say to do so. A copied trailing space can make an otherwise valid code fail.

If the message says the code is “invalid,” “nonexistent” or similar, first verify that you are using a coupon code rather than a referral code, gift card, offer link or account credit. EA’s coupon guidance distinguishes nonexistent codes from used or expired ones and directs customers to support when the code cannot be identified. Ask the issuer to confirm the code type and current status rather than trying random variations.
A code that has already been redeemed may continue to look valid in a message or screenshot. Check the promotion history, previous orders and the account that originally received it. Do not publish the full code or send it to unfamiliar people while troubleshooting.
Verify the account and redemption channel
Sign out only if necessary, then sign in with the account associated with the offer. Compare the account email, phone number or profile shown in the promotion message with the account currently active in the app. Switching accounts during checkout can silently remove eligibility.
Next, follow the required channel. Google Play notes that some app promotions must be redeemed inside the app itself. iHerb also documents app-only promotions. Conversely, a code issued for a website checkout may not be accepted in the mobile app, and a promotion tied to one platform may not transfer to another.
Use the app version and marketplace named in the terms. If the offer is attached to a particular country’s app store, billing profile or delivery service, changing the device language will not satisfy that requirement.

Check the cart, subtotal and other discounts
Open the coupon details while the cart is visible. Identify every excluded product, seller, subscription, bundle or brand. An excluded item can invalidate the whole code rather than merely receiving no discount, depending on the service.
Calculate the qualifying subtotal after removing ineligible items and before adding costs that the offer excludes. If the threshold is 50 units of the local currency, for example, a cart containing 45 units of eligible goods plus 8 units of delivery may still fail when delivery does not count.
Temporarily remove another promotion, automatic sale or loyalty credit when the terms prohibit stacking. If the app automatically chooses one discount, compare the displayed reduction with the offer’s value before replacing it. Never describe one service’s stacking behavior as a general app rule.
Check location, currency and timing
Location restrictions can be based on your account country, billing address, delivery address, device region or the market in which the offer was issued. Google Play says its discount coupons are tied to a country or region. Uber Eats instructs customers to check the applicable location, currency and expiry.
Make sure the checkout currency matches the promotion. A code issued for a local-currency order may not work after the app switches markets or converts prices. Also check the order’s service area: a restaurant, store, delivery zone or subscription may be outside the promotion’s supported region.

Apply the code before the deadline shown in the terms. Do not wait until after payment or order submission. Uber Eats states: “Promo codes should be added before placing the order.” Its help guidance also says a promotion cannot be added after an order is placed.
Confirm whether the discount actually applied
An app may accept a code field without applying money off. Review the complete price breakdown before tapping the final purchase button. Uber Eats identifies a successful discount with a “Promotion” line in the receipt’s price breakdown and lets customers inspect active and past promotions in the app.
After purchase, open the order record or receipt and verify the final amount. Save a screenshot that shows the promotion, qualifying items and error or receipt details, but redact payment numbers, authentication codes and other sensitive information.

If the discount is absent from the receipt, do not assume it will be added later. Some services cannot retroactively apply a promotion, and support may need to review the transaction under the offer’s stated rules.

These interpretations reflect examples from Google Play, Google Store and EA help guidance. Labels vary by service, so use the offer’s own explanation when it conflicts with a generic description.

When a technical fix is worth trying
Basic app maintenance can help when the promotion is eligible but the interface is failing to load or calculate the price. Try opening the latest app session, checking for a pending update, signing out and back in, or using the supported web checkout if the terms permit it. Record the cart and error first so you can restore the same conditions.
Do not treat those steps as a solution to an eligibility rejection. Reinstalling can remove local data but cannot change the account’s customer status, an expired date, a country restriction or a one-time redemption record. A different device likewise cannot make an excluded item qualify.

Escalate when the offer is active, the account and channel match, the cart meets the written conditions and the same error persists. Contact the issuer named in the promotion; Google Play directs users to the app developer for promotion help.
- The exact error text, including capitalization or numbers.
- The promotion’s name, code type and visible expiry or redemption period.
- The account identifier or email, shared only through the service’s official support form.
- Country, currency, app or platform and payment method, when relevant to the terms.
- The eligible items and qualifying subtotal, with a receipt or screenshot that hides sensitive data.
- The time of the attempt and whether the code was tried before order submission.
Ask support to confirm whether the code is active, already redeemed, account-restricted, region-restricted or blocked by a cart condition. That gives the issuer the information needed to check the promotion record instead of repeating generic troubleshooting.
Service rules are not interchangeable
Official help pages illustrate why a universal coupon rule does not exist:

- The offer is within its stated redemption period.
- The code was typed exactly as required, with prohibited spaces or dashes removed.
- The signed-in account and customer status match the offer.
- The required app, platform or checkout channel is being used.
- Every cart item is eligible and the qualifying subtotal reaches the minimum.
- Country, delivery or billing location and currency are supported.
- No conflicting discount, payment method or one-time-use rule blocks it.
- The promotion appears in the final price breakdown or receipt before the order is submitted.
If all eight checks pass and the app still rejects the coupon, stop retrying random fixes. Preserve the evidence and ask the issuer or app support to inspect the promotion on its side.
