If a game you bought is missing from your PlayStation library, work through the checks in this order: sign in to the purchasing account and confirm the transaction, unhide the title, verify sharing or PlayStation Plus eligibility, restore licenses, then check service and system status. If the game is still absent, contact PlayStation Support with your transaction and troubleshooting evidence.
Start by identifying what “missing” means
Different symptoms point to different causes. A title that is absent from the library is usually an account, visibility, or entitlement problem. A game with a padlock may be present but unavailable to the current user. A game that appears in the library but will not download is a download or service problem rather than a missing purchase.

Use the purchasing account and the console on which the problem occurs while you perform these checks. Changing several settings at once makes it harder to tell which condition fixed the entitlement.

Digital ownership belongs to the PlayStation Network account that completed the purchase or redeemed the voucher. If you are signed in to a different account, the game will not appear as owned even when both accounts use the same console.

Confirm the transaction
- Sign out of the current PlayStation Network account if it is not the account used at checkout or voucher redemption.
- Sign in to the exact purchasing account.
- Open that account’s transaction history and find the game, add-on, or voucher redemption.
- Check that the transaction succeeded rather than remaining pending, failed, canceled, or refunded.
Transaction history is the fastest ownership test. If the successful transaction is on another account, switch to that account when you want to download or play the title, or use the console-sharing arrangement described below. A payment made by one account does not transfer ownership to a different account.
When the transaction is not present
If you cannot find the purchase or redemption in the account’s history, stop treating the issue as a library display problem. Check other PlayStation Network accounts that may have been used, and locate the purchase confirmation or voucher information. Do not buy the game again until you have established which account owns it; a second purchase will not repair an account mismatch.
2. Check whether the game was hidden
PlayStation allows games to be hidden from the Game Library. A hidden game is not merely removed from one console’s view: PlayStation states that games hidden in the Game Library are hidden in the libraries of all consoles. This can make a valid purchase look as though it vanished after a console change or account sign-in.
Unhide the title
- Open the Game Library while signed in to the purchasing account.
- Open the library’s hidden-items or hidden-games view.
- Select the missing title and choose the library’s unhide control.
- Return to the main library and search again for the game.
If the game reappears after unhiding, no purchase or license repair is required. The title was still attached to the account; its visibility setting had been changed.

3. Determine how access was obtained
The correct fix depends on whether you bought the game outright, redeemed a voucher, rely on another account’s purchase, or claimed it through PlayStation Plus. Identify the entitlement before changing console settings.
One-time digital purchase or voucher
A successful purchase or voucher redemption should be recorded on the redeeming account. Use that account for the transaction-history check and subsequent license restoration. If the transaction belongs to a different account, the current account cannot be treated as the owner merely because both users share a console.
Another user’s purchase
A family member or other user may own the game while you play it through console sharing. On PS5, the owner must enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the console. On PS4, the owner must activate that console as the owner account’s primary PS4. These are different settings and should not be substituted for one another.
After the owner changes the appropriate setting, sign in to the user who is trying to play, return to the library, and test the title. If the owner’s account is not available or the sharing setting is disabled, the non-owner account may see a padlock or a purchase prompt even though the owner still has the game.

PlayStation Plus game
A game obtained through a PlayStation Plus benefit is not the same as a permanently purchased license. Confirm that the PlayStation Plus subscription is active and that the title remains available through the relevant benefit or catalog. If the subscription has ended, or the game has left the catalog or benefit, the title may remain visible but will not be playable under that entitlement.
When a Plus title is missing, check the subscription and catalog status before assuming that a console license is corrupt. A restoration cannot recreate a benefit that is no longer active or available.
4. Restore licenses
Restoring licenses makes the console recheck the digital permissions associated with the signed-in account. PlayStation identifies this as the targeted step for a missing game or add-on. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s support wording is explicit: “Please note, restoring licenses won’t affect your data.”
PS5 path
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Select Other.
- Choose Restore Licenses and confirm.
PS4 path
- Open Settings.
- Select Account Management.
- Choose Restore Licenses and confirm.
Run the procedure while signed in to the account that owns the game. When it finishes, open the library again and try the download or launch action. Restoring licenses does not replace a missing purchase, change which account owns it, renew PlayStation Plus, or enable console sharing; those conditions must be corrected separately.

5. Check PlayStation service and system software
An account can have a valid entitlement while the library or license service is temporarily unavailable. Review the official PlayStation status page for an outage affecting account management, the PlayStation Store, or gaming services. If a service incident is reported, wait until the affected service is operational and retry the library check.
On the console, install the latest available system software before repeating the test. Older system software can leave library information or license checks out of date. Restart the console after the update, sign in to the purchasing account, and check the title again.

If the account, transaction, visibility, entitlement, license, service, and software checks are all satisfactory but the library remains wrong, the local database may be inconsistent. PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance provides Safe Mode maintenance options for this situation.
PS5
Start the console in Safe Mode and use the options to clear the cache and rebuild the PS5 database. These maintenance choices refresh local system data; they do not change which account purchased the game. Follow the on-screen warning for each option and allow the process to finish without powering off the console.

PS4
Start the console in Safe Mode and choose the option to rebuild the PS4 database. This is intended for database organization and discovery problems, such as content that does not appear correctly. Let the rebuild complete before checking the library again.
Safe Mode is not a substitute for restoring licenses. Use it after the entitlement and license checks, not as the first response to an account mismatch or an expired subscription.
7. Separate a missing entitlement from a download failure
Once the game is visible in the library, note exactly where the process stops. If the title is listed and the download starts but fails, record the displayed error code or message and the time of the attempt. Check PlayStation service status and system software again, then retry after the service is stable.
If the title is listed but shows a padlock, return to the entitlement type: verify the purchasing account, console-sharing setting, primary-PS4 activation, or PlayStation Plus status that applies. A padlock is evidence that the current user cannot validate access; it is not proof that the original purchase disappeared.
8. Contact PlayStation Support with usable evidence
Escalate when the successful transaction is on the correct account, the title is not hidden, the relevant sharing or subscription condition is valid, licenses have been restored, and service and system checks have not resolved the problem.
Prepare the support report
- The PlayStation Network account used for the purchase or voucher redemption.
- The game’s name and whether you are using the PS5 or PS4 version.
- The transaction-history entry, including purchase date and any available order details.
- The exact error code or message, if one appears.
- A detailed description of what you expected, what you see, and the steps that reproduce it.
- The date and time of a recent attempt.
- A screenshot or video showing the missing listing, padlock, or failed operation, if possible.
- Which troubleshooting actions you already completed, including the restore-licenses path and any Safe Mode database maintenance.
Precise evidence helps support distinguish an account entitlement issue from a console database or service incident. Keep the original transaction details available until the case is closed.
