Protect the existing game data first: do not uninstall the app or clear its storage until you verify the game’s account link or transfer method. Then work through reversible checks—restart, free storage, test the connection, update the game, and clear only its cache. If progress still appears missing, confirm the exact login method and contact the game’s publisher, because platform support usually cannot restore game accounts or in-app data.
Start with the safest possible response
A crash, failed launch or empty account screen does not automatically mean that your save has been deleted. The immediate danger is making the situation harder to recover by uninstalling the game, erasing app storage or starting a new transfer flow before you know how the title stores progress.
Keep the app installed while the account is uncertain
Open the game’s account, user-center or data-transfer settings if the app still starts. Record the displayed player ID, server or region, linked email, Apple or Google sign-in, Game Center connection, publisher account and any transfer code or password. Take screenshots, but do not post those credentials publicly.

Do not confuse clearing cache with clearing storage
On Android, Clear cache removes temporary files; Clear storage or Clear data can remove local app information and may require a fresh login or download. On iOS, deleting or offloading an app can also affect locally stored data. Follow the game’s own instructions and avoid any option that says storage, data or erase until the save is linked or the transfer process is documented.
Use reversible launch checks first
These checks address common resource, connection and installation problems without intentionally destroying the local game state. Perform them in order and try the game after each major change.
- Close other apps. Remove demanding games, video editors and other background apps from the recent-apps view. Konami identifies memory and the device environment as possible causes of an app that will not open or log in.
- Restart the phone or tablet. A full restart clears temporary processes and gives the game a clean launch.
- Check internal storage. Keep enough free space for the game to create temporary files and download updates. Delete ordinary photos or downloads only after confirming that you are not removing the game’s own files.
- Test the network. Use a stable Wi-Fi connection for a large repair or data download. If Wi-Fi fails, briefly test mobile data; if mobile data is unreliable, return to Wi-Fi. Konami specifically recommends switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data when checking whether the network is involved.
- Install the official game update. Check the App Store or Google Play for an update, and install operating-system updates that the game requires. Do not install modified packages from unofficial sources.
- Clear only the game cache, if the publisher recommends it. Bandai Namco’s crash guidance recommends clearing cache and restarting, while warning that the game may need to download its data again. Use a stable connection and expect a potentially large download.
These steps do not diagnose every crash. They are low-risk checks that address the conditions official support pages commonly list: competing apps, limited storage, unstable network access and an outdated client.

If the game opens but your save is missing
An apparently empty account is often a sign-in mismatch rather than proof of deletion. Before creating a new character or accepting a new-player tutorial, sign out and identify exactly how the original account was accessed.
Verify the complete login path
- Use the same email-and-password account, if that was the original method.
- Try the specific Sign in with Apple or Google button previously used, rather than typing the same address into a different login form.
- Check the selected Google account in Google Play Games and the correct Game Center account on Apple devices.
- Select the correct server, region or data center when the game presents that choice.
- Look for the game publisher’s own account or user-center sign-in, which may be separate from the store account.
HoYoverse explains that a third-party Apple or Google login can be distinct from a standard email login even when the visible email address is the same, unless the accounts were manually linked. Its help material also says that game progress is not deleted by default. Those details are examples of why the login method matters; other publishers can implement different systems.
Understand linked accounts versus guest saves

EA’s mobile-game guidance illustrates this distinction: update, restart, sign out and back in, and test the linked account on another device if available; reinstall only after the backup is confirmed. For an unlinked guest game, EA warns that progress may exist only on the device and may be lost after an app or device failure. These are title-specific support examples, not a promise that every publisher can restore a guest account.

Do not assume a new device or operating system transfers progress
Installing the same game from the same store account does not necessarily move its save, paid currency or account inventory. Open the original device, if possible, and read the game’s data-transfer screen before starting on the replacement device.

Same platform is simpler, not automatic
Moving from one Android phone to another may still require the game’s own transfer code or account login. The same is true when moving between Apple devices. A store purchase history and a game account are separate records.
Cross-platform rules can restrict content
Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Legends transfer instructions warn that certain content, including specified paid currency and a pass, does not transfer between Android or Google Play Games and iOS. The recovery flow tells players to choose Transfer Data rather than starting a new game. This warning applies to that title and its stated conditions, not to every gacha game.

If that title displays a 24-hour retry restriction after a transfer attempt, treat it as a game-specific cooldown—not a general recovery deadline or statistic. Do not repeatedly reset the app while waiting; preserve the account information and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the crash happened during a gacha pull
A disconnect or crash while the animation is running does not establish that the pull failed. Many games record the result before displaying the animation. Check the game’s authoritative records before spending more currency or submitting a duplicate claim.

- Relaunch the game only after the connection is stable.
- Open the roster, inventory, summon history or acquisition log.
- Sort by newest acquisition if the game offers that control.
- Check mail, exchange results and currency balances for the same transaction.
- Save screenshots of the relevant record and contact in-game support if the result is still absent.
SEGA’s Project SEKAI support gives a concrete example: newly obtained characters can be checked in the Characters screen or Green Room, sorted by Acquired so the newest entries appear first. If the character is still missing, its instructions direct players to support from the in-game Menu. Other titles may use different records, so use the equivalent official history for your game.

When reinstalling is safe—and when it is not
Reinstallation is a repair step of last resort, not the first response to a crash. Consider it only when all of the following are true:
- The game’s account page shows a confirmed link or the publisher has provided a documented transfer method.
- You have recorded the player ID, server, login method and any transfer credentials.
- You know whether paid currency or other content is platform-restricted.
- The publisher’s current troubleshooting page specifically recommends reinstalling.
Before deleting, ask support whether the title stores any guest data locally and whether reinstalling removes it. If the answer is unclear, keep the app installed. Never publish a password, one-time code, transfer password or recovery token in a forum or social-media post.
Know which support team can actually fix the problem
Platform support can explain a store login, subscription or Play Games feature, but it generally cannot edit a game’s account, restore a character or reconstruct in-app data. Google Play Help explicitly says that the game developer manages game accounts and in-app data. For a missing save, transfer failure or absent pull result, use the game’s official in-app support link or publisher help center.
Include evidence that lets support investigate
Send one clear report containing:
- Game title, device model and operating-system version.
- Game version, if visible, and the approximate date and time of the failure.
- Player ID, server or region, and the exact login method—without passwords or one-time codes.
- The action immediately before the crash, such as launching, transferring data or performing a pull.
- Exact error text and screenshots, with private credentials obscured.
- The safe steps already attempted, including restart, network switch, update and cache clearing.
Use only the publisher’s official support channel. A forum responder cannot verify ownership or safely recover a save, and no support page cited here promises a particular response time or successful restoration.

What cannot be safely promised
There is no universal recovery method for every gacha game. Account architecture, transfer rules, platform restrictions and retention of guest data differ by title. A crash can be fixed by a restart or cache refresh, but an unlinked local save may be unrecoverable after its device data is erased. Treat the game publisher’s current instructions as authoritative for your title, platform and login method.
