If your OPPO phone is losing charge unusually fast, start with the built-in battery-usage report instead of guessing. It shows which apps are using power in the foreground and background. Then adjust only the app or power setting responsible, test Power Saving mode, and seek an OPPO service inspection if a battery error appears or the drain continues after software checks.
1. Confirm your phone and ColorOS version
OPPO changes menu names and locations between ColorOS releases and phone models. Open Settings > About phone or Settings > About device and note the model and ColorOS version before following a guide. OPPO cautions that the screens shown in its support instructions can differ from the ones on your phone.
Use your regional OPPO support site for model-specific instructions if a label does not match. The battery report and power controls are built into ColorOS, but their exact availability is device-specific.

2. Find the app causing the drain
Battery percentages change with what an app does each day. OPPO explains: “Since each application is used differently each day, the power consumption varies accordingly.” A high percentage is therefore a clue to investigate, not proof that the app is defective.

ColorOS 5.1 and later
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Select Battery usage by app.
OPPO documents this route in How to Check the Battery Usage of Apps on OPPO Phone. The report analyzes calculated consumption and separates activity performed while an app is in use from activity performed in the background.
ColorOS 14 and later
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Scroll to the battery-usage section.
On newer releases, the list may appear directly on the Battery page rather than behind a button named “Battery usage by app.”
Read the list over a useful time period
Look at the leading apps and note whether their use is mostly foreground or background. A navigation, video, camera, or game app can reasonably rise to the top while you are actively using it. An app that remains high despite little visible use is a stronger candidate for background investigation.
Compare apps over the same reporting period rather than comparing a percentage from one day with a percentage from another. Do not treat the list as a promised battery-life estimate: OPPO’s documentation does not define a normal number of hours or a universal percentage threshold for rapid drain.

3. Restrict background activity selectively
When an app shows unexpected background consumption, open that app’s available battery, background, or power-management controls and apply the least restrictive option that addresses the problem. The wording and controls vary by ColorOS version, so use the options actually displayed on your device.
Make one change at a time, then watch the battery report again during comparable use. This gives you a better indication of whether the app was the cause than changing several settings simultaneously.
Protect time-sensitive notifications
Background restrictions can delay or suppress an app’s work until the phone allows it to run again. OPPO specifically warns that power-saving restrictions may make notifications arrive late. Avoid aggressive limits for messaging, two-factor authentication, emergency, safety, transport, or other apps where an alert must arrive promptly.

4. Use Power Saving as a controlled test
For immediate extra runtime, turn on the available Power Saving mode from the Battery settings. OPPO describes these modes as reducing background activity, screen brightness, or selected phone functions. The exact switches depend on the model and ColorOS release.
Use Power Saving for a defined test period, such as the rest of the day, while noting whether the rate of charge loss changes. This is a consumption-reduction measure, not a diagnosis: it can extend runtime without identifying which app or function caused the drain.
Expect trade-offs. Lower brightness can make the screen less comfortable to read, and reduced background work can postpone synchronization or notifications. If you need the phone to behave normally for work or safety alerts, turn off the restrictive setting for those apps or accept the shorter runtime.

Some OPPO phones also provide Super Power Saving for situations in which preserving a small remaining charge is more important than full phone functionality. It can limit available functions more heavily than ordinary Power Saving. Availability, behavior, and the list of permitted apps are model-specific; use it as an emergency runtime option rather than a permanent solution.

5. Check Phone Manager and built-in app controls
OPPO’s consumer guidance also points to Phone Manager for optimization and background-app controls. If Phone Manager is installed on your model, open it and review the battery or app-management tools it exposes. These tools can help identify background apps and apply the same kind of selective controls available through Settings.
Do not assume every OPPO phone has the same Phone Manager layout. OPPO’s overview, Boost Your Battery and Make Your Phone Last Longer, describes the feature at a general level, while the controls presented to you depend on the device and software version.
6. Choose the least disruptive fix
The following comparison helps decide what to try first. “Diagnoses cause” means the step helps identify why charge is being consumed; “reduces consumption” means it may improve runtime without identifying the source.

7. Follow a focused troubleshooting sequence
- Record the software version. In Settings, open About phone or About device and note the model and ColorOS release.
- Open the battery report. Use Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app on ColorOS 5.1 and later, or open Settings > Battery and scroll to battery usage on ColorOS 14 and later.
- Identify an outlier. Look for an app with unusually high calculated consumption or substantial background activity during a period when you barely used it.
- Review that app’s controls. Apply a selective background or power restriction, keeping time-sensitive apps exempt.
- Run a controlled Power Saving test. Enable Power Saving and observe whether charge loss slows, while checking that essential notifications still arrive.
- Recheck the report. After comparable use, see whether the same app remains the leading contributor or whether another app now dominates.
- Escalate when necessary. If the phone displays a battery error while charging, or rapid drain persists after reasonable software checks, arrange a professional inspection.
8. When a battery error appears while charging
A battery error message is different from an ordinary high-usage reading. OPPO recommends professional inspection to determine whether the problem involves the battery or power-management hardware. Do not select a replacement battery based only on the phone’s brand or appearance. The correct part and diagnosis depend on the exact model, and OPPO’s guidance directs battery-error cases toward inspection rather than a user-chosen replacement.
9. When software checks do not solve the problem
If the battery report identifies no clear outlier and the drain continues with normal use, document the model, ColorOS version, the approximate time period, the leading entries in Battery usage, and any error message. Give that information to OPPO support or an authorized service provider so they can perform model-specific diagnosis.
Service is especially appropriate when the problem began suddenly, occurs while the phone is idle, or coincides with a charging-related battery warning. The available official guidance does not establish a universal battery-life target, so a technician must evaluate the phone rather than applying a one-size-fits-all runtime promise.

10. Avoid common troubleshooting mistakes
- Do not guess from one app percentage. Usage changes from day to day, and the report reflects calculated activity for the selected period.
- Do not restrict every app at once. You will lose the ability to identify the cause and may delay important alerts.
- Do not assume a menu is missing because your phone is faulty. ColorOS version and model differences can move or rename the controls.
- Do not use Power Saving as proof of a hardware fix. It reduces consumption but does not diagnose a failing battery or power-management component.
- Do not install a generic “battery fixer” or buy an unspecified replacement. The official path for a battery error is professional inspection.
11. The practical decision rule
Use the battery-usage screen when you need to find the cause. Use selective app controls when one app is clearly consuming power in the background. Use Power Saving or Super Power Saving when you need more runtime immediately and can accept reduced background behavior. Move to OPPO support or authorized service when a charging battery error appears or the drain remains unexplained after these checks.
