If your Samsung Galaxy shows “SOS,” “No service,” or “Searching” after you moved to Mint Mobile, work through the checks in this order: turn off Airplane mode and restart, confirm the phone is unlocked by your former carrier, verify the Mint SIM or eSIM is enabled, check that a ported number has finished transferring, test a location with coverage, then review APN settings for data or picture-messaging problems. Reset mobile-network settings and contact Mint only after those checks. The exact menu names vary by Galaxy model and software version.
Start with the fastest checks
These steps take only a few minutes and can resolve a temporary registration problem without changing account or network data.
- Turn Airplane mode off. Open Quick settings and make sure Airplane mode is not highlighted. If it is already off, turn it on for about 10 seconds and turn it off again.
- Restart the Galaxy. A restart makes the phone search for available networks again after a SIM change or activation.
- Install pending software updates. Open Settings > Software update (the wording can differ by model), select Download and install, and complete any available update while connected to Wi-Fi.
- Read the status message. “SOS only,” “No service,” and “Searching” generally indicate that the phone is not registered on a mobile network. If calls work but mobile data or picture messages do not, skip ahead to the APN section instead of treating it as a total signal failure.
Do not factory-reset the phone as an initial remedy. The carrier and Samsung guidance for this situation starts with connection state, unlock status, SIM or eSIM configuration, coverage, and provisioning.
Check whether the Galaxy is still locked to your old carrier
A carrier lock is one of the most important causes of a new Mint SIM failing to connect. Samsung states that when you switch carriers, the phone must be unlocked by the outbound carrier for bring-your-own-device activation. Mint likewise says a phone that is still locked to the previous carrier cannot use a Mint SIM.

How to verify the lock
- Contact the carrier you left and ask it to verify that the Galaxy is unlocked for use on another network.
- Complete any requirements that carrier imposes, such as paying the remaining device balance or meeting its account and usage rules.
- After the carrier confirms the unlock, restart the Galaxy with the Mint SIM or Mint line enabled.
Samsung cannot override the former carrier’s unlock decision. If the previous carrier says the phone is unlocked but Mint still cannot provision it, continue with the SIM, transfer, coverage, and account checks below and ask Mint to investigate activation.
Confirm the Mint SIM or eSIM is selected and active
The correct fix depends on whether you installed a physical SIM card or an eSIM. A physical card is reseated; an eSIM is toggled on and off in software. Do not try to remove an eSIM as if it were a card.

On many Galaxy models, the relevant controls are under Settings > Connections > SIM manager, but Samsung changes labels and placement by model and software version. The Mint line should show as enabled, and the preferred SIM settings should assign Mint to voice calls and mobile data.

If you ported your number to a Mint eSIM, wait for the transfer
When you bring an existing number to Mint on an eSIM, Mint says the number transfer must be complete before you install the eSIM. Installing it while the transfer is still pending can leave the line unable to register even though the eSIM profile appears on the phone.
Check the transfer status
- Open the Mint app or the confirmation email for the transfer status.
- If it says the transfer is pending, allow additional time rather than repeatedly deleting and reinstalling the eSIM.
- Once Mint confirms completion, restart the Galaxy and verify that the Mint line is enabled and selected for calls and data.
Some transfers take longer than a few minutes. If the status does not advance or the old carrier still controls the number after Mint’s expected completion window, contact Mint and ask it to check the port and eSIM provisioning together.
Rule out a coverage or network-mode problem
A phone can be correctly activated and still show no service in a location where the network signal is weak or blocked. Mint says reception can be reduced or cut off in rural areas, deep inside buildings, and underground spaces.

Use a location test
- Move outdoors or to another nearby location where you know Mint service is available.
- Check Mint’s coverage map for the address. A map indicates expected coverage, not a guarantee of indoor reception or service at a specific spot.
- Compare the result in several locations. If the Galaxy connects elsewhere, the original location or building is the likely limitation rather than the SIM itself.
Mint’s network page claims 4G LTE coverage reaches “99% of Americans.” That is Mint’s own stated figure, with no independent measurement established here, and it does not guarantee reception at your address.
Review the network mode and operator selection
On a Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > Mobile networks. The labels vary, but look for Network mode and Network operators. Leave network selection on automatic unless Mint support gives you a specific manual setting. If the phone is stuck on an inappropriate mode, choose an automatic option that includes available LTE/5G networks, then restart and test again.
A network-mode change cannot repair a carrier lock, an incomplete number port, or an unprovisioned line. Treat it as a coverage and registration check, not a substitute for account verification.

Use APN settings only when data or picture messaging fails
The access point name (APN) controls packet data and multimedia messaging. It is relevant when calls or signal bars appear but mobile internet or picture messages fail. An APN edit is not a complete explanation for a Galaxy that shows “No service” everywhere; that symptom still requires checks for lock status, SIM or eSIM state, coverage, and Mint provisioning.
Try Mint’s automatic setup first
After activation and SIM or eSIM setup, Mint says Android users can request configuration by texting SETUP to 6700. Follow the reply and restart the phone if requested. If the message does not arrive or the settings are incomplete, use Mint’s current manual instructions rather than copying values from an unrelated carrier guide.

On many Galaxy phones, APNs are under Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. Create or edit the entry exactly as Mint currently instructs, save it, select it, and restart. A typo can stop data or MMS, so do not add extra spaces or substitute a different MMSC address.

Reset mobile-network settings as a later step
If the phone remains disconnected after the simpler checks, Samsung documents a mobile-network reset at Settings > General management > Reset > Reset mobile network settings. Your Galaxy may use slightly different wording.
Read the warning before confirming. Mint says a network reset removes saved network-related data, including Wi-Fi passwords and saved networks. You will need to reconnect to Wi-Fi afterward and may need to recheck SIM, mobile-data, or APN selections. The reset can clear a corrupted local configuration, but it does not unlock a phone, complete a port, expand coverage, or prove that Mint has provisioned the line.
Contact Mint when the phone still has no service
Escalate after checking the lock, line selection, number-transfer status, coverage, and (when applicable) APN. Ask Mint Care to verify all of these items on the account:

- Activation status for the Galaxy and the specific SIM or eSIM.
- Whether the ported number is complete, pending, or held for missing information.
- eSIM or physical-SIM provisioning and the line’s device association.
- Account access, payment or identity requirements, and any service restriction.
- Whether the address and current location are covered.
Mint lists customer support at 800-683-7392 and through chat. If the activated Galaxy cannot make a call, use another phone for the support call. Have the Mint account details, the Galaxy model, the SIM or eSIM identifier, and the exact on-screen message available. Samsung directs account and network-access problems to the carrier because only the carrier can correct provisioning and account-side restrictions.

What not to do
- Do not repeatedly delete an eSIM. Mint warns that a deleted eSIM cannot simply be recovered.
- Do not assume APN edits fix radio service. APNs affect data and MMS, not whether the phone can register on the network.
- Do not skip the unlock check. A SIM can be perfectly installed and still fail in a locked Galaxy.
- Do not treat a coverage-map claim as a guarantee. Indoor, rural, and underground conditions can differ sharply from the map.
- Do not factory-reset first. It erases personal data without addressing a carrier lock, pending port, weak coverage, or account provisioning.
When a network-security change is mentioned
Mint describes a transition to a different network security standard dated April 1, 2026. That date is a network-wide policy milestone, not evidence that the change is causing one individual Galaxy to show “No service.” For an isolated post-switch failure, use the device, SIM/eSIM, transfer, coverage, and account checks above.
