Assume your PlayStation password is exposed. Stop using the fake store, change your PlayStation password from a trusted device, change any reused passwords, secure the email account tied to PlayStation, and sign out every PlayStation device. If you are locked out, or your sign-in details changed, use PlayStation’s official recovery and support channels immediately. Check transactions and bank statements if you entered payment details or see an unfamiliar charge.
Do these first, in this order
A counterfeit game store can capture anything you typed into its forms, including your PlayStation sign-in ID, password, payment information and verification codes. Treat the credentials as compromised even if the page looked convincing and you have not noticed suspicious activity.
- Stop interacting with the store. Close it and do not revisit it, use its chat, call numbers shown on the page, or reply to messages that sent you there. Start from a device you trust and navigate to PlayStation’s official Account Management or Support site by typing the known address yourself or using a bookmark you created previously.
- Change your PlayStation password immediately. In Account Management, open Security and choose the password option. Use a new password that you have never used elsewhere.
- Change reused passwords on other services. If the same or a similar password protected your email, banking, shopping, social or other accounts, replace it there with a distinct password for each service. PlayStation’s security guidance notes that using one password across accounts increases the damage if one account is compromised.
- Secure the email account linked to PlayStation. Change its password and review its security settings. If you can no longer access that inbox, contact the email provider through its genuine recovery process before attempting PlayStation recovery.
- Sign out all PlayStation devices. If you can still sign in, use Account Management > Security > Sign Out on All Devices. This invalidates sessions that an intruder may have opened.
- Check for changes and money misuse. Review your sign-in ID, online ID, security methods, transaction history and subscriptions. Inspect bank and card statements as well.
Do not send another password, payment number or verification code to the fake store while carrying out these steps. A real PlayStation representative will not need you to continue on a suspicious website.

Change the password and remove other sessions
Use PlayStation Account Management from a trusted device, not a link in the store’s advertisement or email. Open the security settings, set a unique password, then select Sign Out on All Devices. Signing out is important even when your password change succeeds: an attacker may already have an active browser or console session.

Check the account profile
Look for an unfamiliar sign-in ID, online ID, phone number, passkey, two-step verification method or other security change. Check recent messages from PlayStation for notices about a password, email or security-setting change. Do not approve a prompt or code that you did not initiate. If an identifier has changed and you cannot restore it yourself, move to the support branch below rather than repeatedly guessing credentials.
Review purchases and subscriptions
Open your PlayStation transaction history and subscription list. Look for purchases, wallet activity or subscription changes you do not recognize, and note the date, amount and item. Keep those details for PlayStation Support and your card issuer. An unfamiliar transaction is a separate reason to contact the payment provider promptly, even if you still control the account.
Secure the email account before relying on recovery
The email address connected to PlayStation is often the route used to reset a password or confirm an ownership change. If an attacker controls that inbox, changing only the PlayStation password may not hold.

When you still have email access
- Change the email password to one used nowhere else.
- Review recent sign-ins, forwarding rules and recovery addresses for changes you did not make.
- Remove unfamiliar sessions or devices using the provider’s own security controls.
- Keep PlayStation and email verification codes private; do not forward them to the store or to someone claiming to be support.
When you have lost email access
Use the email provider’s official account-recovery process and contact its support team through a known genuine channel. PlayStation’s compromised-account guidance places email security before account recovery because recovery messages may otherwise go to the attacker. If the provider cannot restore the inbox, tell PlayStation Support that the recovery email is unavailable and provide the ownership information requested through its official process.
If you are locked out or details were changed
Use PlayStation’s official account-recovery flow for the country or region where your account is registered. Recovery can offer passkey or email-based routes, but the available options depend on what remains under your control.
- Open PlayStation Support from a trusted device and select the account or sign-in problem category.
- Start the official account-recovery or Online Assistant process. Enter information only into pages reached from PlayStation’s support site.
- Choose the route for a forgotten password, lost access, changed sign-in ID or changed online ID, as applicable.
- If self-service recovery fails, contact PlayStation Support promptly. Explain that you entered your credentials on a counterfeit store and identify any changed email, online ID, payment activity or missing recovery inbox.
- Follow the ownership-verification instructions exactly. Do not create a second account as a substitute while the original is being investigated, and do not give recovery information to a person who contacts you through the fake store.
Support pages and contact options can differ by country and can change over time. Use the PlayStation site for your own region rather than a search advertisement, a link in the suspicious message or a support number displayed by the store.

Strengthen the account after you regain control
Use a passkey or two-step verification
In PlayStation security settings, enable a passkey or two-step verification if the option is available for your account and device. Two or more credentials make it harder for a scammer to sign in with only a stolen username and password. Keep verification codes private and never enter them into the counterfeit store.

Use a different, long password for PlayStation, the associated email account and every other important service. A password manager can help generate and store unique passwords, but buying one is not required to contain this incident; the urgent actions are changing exposed credentials and securing the accounts that can reset them.
Review security periodically
After recovery, revisit the account’s security settings and transaction history for additional changes. Keep your email address and recovery methods current so that a future recovery request reaches you.

Check payment information and financial accounts
If you typed a card number, bank detail, billing address or other payment information into the fake store, assume that information may also be exposed. Review the PlayStation transaction history and subscriptions, then check the statements for every card or account you used.
- Recognized PlayStation activity: record the transaction details and ask PlayStation Support about any item you did not authorize.
- Unauthorized card charge: contact the card issuer through the number on the physical card or its official website. Ask about blocking or replacing the card and dispute charges according to the issuer’s process.
- Bank-account exposure: contact the bank through a known official route and follow its fraud instructions.
- No charge yet: continue monitoring statements and alerts. The absence of an immediate charge does not prove that the payment details were safe.
Do not use a phone number, email address or refund form supplied by the fake store to resolve a payment issue. Scammers often use a second contact to request more information.

Report the phishing site without putting yourself at risk

Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.gov. The FTC also lists reportphishing@apwg.org for forwarding phishing email. Include the store address, the message or advertisement that led you there, what information you entered and any resulting account or payment activity. Do not reopen the site merely to gather more evidence.

Other countries
Use your country’s official consumer-protection, cybercrime or fraud-reporting authority. PlayStation Support can direct you to the appropriate regional process, but use only contact details published on an official government or PlayStation site.
Preserve useful evidence safely
Keep the original email, text message, receipt, browser history entry or screenshot if you already have it. Record approximate times, account changes and transaction amounts. Do not download files, install software, click additional links or communicate with the operators to obtain more evidence.

Common mistakes that make the incident worse
- Trying to log in again to test the store: this supplies another opportunity to capture credentials or verification codes.
- Changing only the PlayStation password: a reused password or an unsecured email inbox can provide another path into the account.
- Waiting for a suspicious charge: account takeover can occur before a purchase appears, and payment data may be used elsewhere.
- Using search-ad contact details: advertisements, copied support pages and messages can lead to additional scams. Start from a known official PlayStation or financial-provider address.
- Sharing verification codes: a code can approve a sign-in or recovery attempt. Treat an unexpected code as a warning, not as a request to forward it.
If you entered only a username but no password, still change the password if the page collected any other account information, and watch for targeted messages that imitate PlayStation. If you entered a password, follow the full sequence above regardless of whether anything appears wrong yet.
