If your WARDOGS overall level is stuck while class XP still appears to increase, first determine whether the class track itself is failing or only the overall-level display is unchanged. Players have reported both situations, but no official source has confirmed a single cause or a guaranteed fix. WARDOGS is an Early Access game, and Team17 Support has said reports of stuck progression were passed to the development team for investigation.
Use the checks below to separate a display or progression misunderstanding from a genuine class-level stall, document useful evidence, and report the problem without risking your account through exploit attempts.
First, identify what is actually stuck
WARDOGS has an overall Wardog level and separate class progression tracks. A report titled “Stuck at level 54. Gaining experience in all over class categories besides overall War Dogs level” describes class XP continuing while the overall number appeared unchanged. Another player reported being unable to move beyond level 53. These are individual community reports, not a measured failure rate.

That explanation is useful as a diagnostic clue, but it is not an official description of the progression rules. Before treating the account as corrupted, check whether a class level actually advanced after the match.

Check the client and server state
WARDOGS is still in Early Access. Its Steam store description says progression and other systems continue to evolve, so a behavior that looks like a permanent save failure can also be affected by a client update, server maintenance or a rule change.
- Look for a pending Steam update. Open Steam’s Downloads view and confirm that WARDOGS has no queued, paused or partially installed update.
- Let the update finish completely. Do not launch the game while Steam is still applying the patch. Earlier WARDOGS update instructions noted that players might need to restart to receive a client update; this is general update handling, not a confirmed remedy for the stuck-level reports.
- Restart Steam and WARDOGS. Close the game, exit Steam, reopen it, and launch the game again. Recheck the profile after one normal match.
- Check the date of the newest official announcement. Update 0.1.2 was announced on September 29, 2026. Season 02 was announced for October 15, 2026. If you are reading after that date, consult the newest official patch notes because Early Access behavior can change.
Playing on an Official server is worth recording in your report, but it is not a proven cure. Players have said their class XP continued while the overall level stayed unchanged even after testing Official servers.
Run a controlled progression check
A short, repeatable test produces better evidence than a general statement that the level “did not save.” Use the same account and note the values shown before and after a completed match.

- Write down the current overall Wardog level and every class level or XP value that is visible.
- Record the server category, the class you used, the approximate start time and whether the match completed normally.
- Finish one match without leaving early, switching accounts or using an unintended XP method.
- After the results screen, note each class XP value and the overall level. Take screenshots if the numbers are easy to capture.
- Exit to the menu, restart the game and check the same values again.
- Repeat once, preferably with a different class if the first class did not level. Stop if the account begins behaving normally; repeated testing is not useful if it only creates duplicate reports.
This test distinguishes “the overall number did not change because no class crossed a level threshold” from “a class that should have advanced did not advance.” It also gives support a timeline instead of a conclusion that assumes the cause.
What the current reports establish—and what they do not
The cited Steam Community discussion contains reports of overall levels appearing stuck at 53 or 54 while class categories continued to receive experience. One player also said verifying files did not correct the displayed level. These statements establish that players have encountered the symptom; they do not prove that every account has the same bug, that file verification is ineffective in every case, or that the game has lost saved data.
Team17 Support replied on September 20 and September 26, 2026 that the reports had been passed to the team. In one response, Team17 Support wrote: “I can mention that there is already a team checking this.” The replies acknowledge investigation, not a released fix or a confirmed root cause.

BULKHEAD’s WARDOGS Update 0.1.2 notes, posted September 29, 2026, discuss anti-exploit measures and other gameplay changes. Those notes do not state that the specific overall-level or class-progression stall was fixed. Do not treat the update announcement as confirmation that your account issue has been resolved.

Report a persistent class-level stall
If a particular class remains unable to gain XP after the controlled check, report it in the WARDOGS Steam Community “Report a Problem” discussion area. The support team has already indicated that similar reports were forwarded for investigation.
Include these details
- Your current overall level and the class level or XP track that is stuck.
- Which classes still gain XP and which do not.
- The first match or date when you noticed the problem.
- Whether the match completed, whether the result screen appeared and whether the values changed after restarting.
- Whether you tested an Official server.
- Your game version as shown by Steam and the date you last updated.
- Short video or screenshots showing the before-and-after values, with personal information removed where appropriate.
Describe the observation rather than asserting a cause. “Class A gained no XP in two completed matches on an Official server, while Class B advanced” is more actionable than “my save is broken.” Do not post account credentials, payment information or authentication codes.

Do not use exploit-based XP fixes
Update 0.1.2 specifically warns against repeatable unintended economy or XP methods. Its announcement states: “We have zero tolerance for economy abuse and players now risk being permanently banned without warning if caught abusing repeatable unintended exploits.” The same update explains that caught players may have cash and progression reset.
That warning makes exploit farming a dangerous troubleshooting strategy. Even if an unintended method appears to increase XP temporarily, it can create a separate account penalty and make the original progression report harder to investigate. Use ordinary matches and documented game mechanics while the issue is under review.
Actions that are not established fixes
The reviewed official material does not document deleting local files, resetting an account, using a third-party utility or repeatedly verifying Steam files as a repair for this symptom. A player reported that file verification did not correct the stuck level, but that is one experience rather than a universal test.

- Do not delete local data unless official support gives you a specific, reversible procedure. Removing files can destroy useful diagnostic information and is not documented as a fix here.
- Do not request an account reset as a first step. A reset could remove legitimate progress without addressing a server-side or display problem.
- Do not install third-party “XP repair” tools. They are not an official recovery method and can introduce security or account risks.
- Do not assume a successful file check proves the save is healthy. Steam’s check concerns installed client files; it does not establish how WARDOGS has recorded progression on its service.
How to interpret a future patch note
When a new WARDOGS update is released, look for wording that specifically mentions progression saves, overall Wardog levels, class XP, level synchronization or a fix for stuck accounts. General statements about stability, anti-exploit work or unrelated gameplay bugs are not proof that this issue was addressed.
After installing a patch, record the version and repeat one controlled match. Compare the class and overall values before and after the match rather than relying only on the headline number. If the class track still fails, add the new version and test result to your existing report instead of opening multiple identical threads.
Why the diagnosis remains uncertain
There is no published study or official statistic showing how often WARDOGS progression fails to save. The available evidence consists of player reports, support acknowledgments and patch documentation. That is enough to justify reporting the symptom, but not enough to claim a universal bug, estimate its prevalence or promise that one local repair will restore XP.

Both possibilities require checking the actual class-level changes and the current game version.
