If the Grappling Hook Blueprint is not appearing in ARC Raiders, you are probably not missing a guaranteed location. Current item guides describe three possible unlock routes: claim it from the Frozen Trail Reward Pass, research it at the Outpost Research Station, or find it as a random loot drop. No source establishes a fixed world spawn, an exact drop percentage, or a number of raids that guarantees success.
Use the progression routes first, then treat container farming as probability-based. Check the live in-game pass and research screens because season rewards, costs and loot tables can change between builds.
Check whether the blueprint is already learned
Before spending another raid on the search, open your blueprint or crafting interface and confirm whether Grappling Hook is already unlocked. The general blueprint reference says learned blueprints are marked and cannot be consumed a second time. A duplicate-looking item or an apparently empty loot search can therefore be a UI or inventory misunderstanding rather than a failed drop.

The three ways to unlock Grappling Hook
Current guides report three routes. They differ in certainty, access requirements and resource cost.

Frozen Trail Reward Pass
The item-specific guide lists the Grappling Hook Blueprint as a level 12 Frozen Trail Reward Pass reward. Open the current pass and inspect the actual reward track rather than relying on an old screenshot or a remembered tier. A second guide corroborates the pass route, but its image description appears inconsistent with the written level-12 text. That conflict makes the live pass screen authoritative.
If the reward is visible and you have reached the required tier, claim it from the pass interface. If the tier or reward is different, follow what the current game client shows; progression rewards are versioned and can be rearranged in later seasons.
Outpost Research Station
The item-specific guide describes the Outpost Research Station as a direct alternative to waiting for a loot drop. It reports a research cost of 2,000 Research Points and 10 Rope. Those are game requirements reported by a guide, not a permanent specification, so confirm both numbers in the station UI before committing resources.
If the station offers Grappling Hook research, select it and verify the confirmation screen. If it is not listed, check that the station is at the required progression state and that you are viewing the correct research category. The available projects can change with updates.

Random scavenging
Looting remains a valid route, but it is an RNG search rather than a destination with a guaranteed spawn. The item guide names Weapon Cases and Raider Caches as containers to open and reports better odds during Night Raid or Electromagnetic Storm conditions. Those recommendations describe relative odds only. They do not establish a percentage, a guaranteed container, or a reliable number of runs.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
Follow these checks in order so that you do not spend repeated raids on a route that is unavailable to your account.
- Confirm the learned state. Check the blueprint list first. If Grappling Hook is marked learned, stop searching for another copy.
- Inspect the live Frozen Trail pass. Open the current reward track and look for the Grappling Hook Blueprint. Use the client’s displayed tier and claim controls, even if they differ from a guide that says level 12.
- Check the Outpost Research Station. Look for a Grappling Hook project and read the current Research Point and Rope costs. Do not assume the reported 2,000 Research Points and 10 Rope remain unchanged after an update.
- Choose a loot-farming plan only if needed. Prioritize Weapon Cases and Raider Caches when you encounter them. If Night Raid or Electromagnetic Storm is available, the item guide recommends those conditions, but neither is a guarantee.
- Extract and verify after each raid. Check the blueprint list and storage after returning. A successful acquisition should appear as learned or claimable rather than requiring repeated looting of the same container.
- Escalate a missing progression reward. If the live pass clearly shows a claimed or earned blueprint but your account does not, capture screenshots of the pass tier, claim state, blueprint list and station screen. Contact official support with your account and build details. The available sources do not confirm a Grappling Hook-specific bug or a special repair procedure.
Where to look when farming loot
Weapon Cases and Raider Caches
Search the named container types whenever your route naturally reaches them. Opening one does not make the blueprint more likely on the next attempt in any publicly established way; the point is that these containers are reported as part of the possible loot pool. Do not treat a particular map coordinate, building or single case as a guaranteed spawn.

The item guide associates Night Raid and Electromagnetic Storm with better Grappling Hook Blueprint odds. Use that information as a favorable-condition choice when the event is available, not as a requirement. A raid outside those conditions can still produce loot, and a raid during them can still return nothing.

Other blueprint sources
The community-maintained ARC Raiders Wiki describes blueprints more broadly as obtainable through scavenging, Trials, quests or projects. It also says ARC Surveyors can drop blueprints and that blueprint drops from Surveyors appear random. That information supports checking general blueprint activities, but it does not prove that a specific Surveyor, quest or container guarantees Grappling Hook. The wiki itself cautions that some recorded spawn information is unconfirmed.
Why a drop-rate answer is not available
There is no published named statistic in the available sources for this blueprint’s chance per container or per raid. Do not rely on posts that promise a percentage, a fixed number of attempts or a particular map route unless the game itself displays that information.
Embark’s North Line 1.2.0 patch notes state: “Adjusted blueprint drop rates from Raider Containers.” This confirms that rates have been changed historically, but the note supplies neither the old rate nor the new rate, and it does not say whether the adjustment increased or decreased the chance. Consequently, an older farming estimate can become inaccurate after a patch.
What you need after unlocking the blueprint
Learning the blueprint does not create a free Grappling Hook. The current item guide lists Utility Station Level 1 as the required station and the following recipe:

The figures above are reported by All Things How, with no publication year stated, and should be checked against the current recipe panel. In particular, do not confuse the 10 Rope research cost with the 2 Rope crafting cost. The station screen is the final authority if an update changes either value.

Use the pass when the reward is available
The pass is the most straightforward route when the current Frozen Trail track displays Grappling Hook and you can reach or claim its tier. It avoids repeated extraction risk and container RNG, but it depends on your pass progress and the live season configuration.
Use research when you have the station and resources
Research is a predictable progression choice if the project appears and you can afford its displayed cost. It trades Research Points and Rope for an unlock instead of asking you to wait for a random container. If the project is absent, continuing to search the same station screen will not force it to appear; verify account progression and the current version first.
Farm loot when progression routes are unavailable
Scavenging is appropriate when the pass reward has been missed, the station does not offer the project, or you want to obtain the blueprint through normal raids. Plan around containers you would already loot, and avoid risking valuable equipment solely to chase an item with no known drop guarantee.

Common mistakes and their fixes
- Assuming a fixed spawn: No current source establishes one. Treat location lists as search suggestions, not promises.
- Trusting an old pass tier: One guide’s written text says level 12 while its image description differs. Read the current in-game reward track.
- Confusing improved odds with certainty: Night Raid and Electromagnetic Storm may be favorable conditions, but they do not guarantee a blueprint.
- Expecting a known attempt count: No reliable probability or guaranteed number of raids is published.
- Searching after unlocking: Learned blueprints cannot be consumed again; verify the blueprint list before another farming run.
- Using a zone label as a promise: Embark explains that zones keep their inherent loot type; Residential areas remain Residential loot areas from raid to raid. The value of a raid can vary, but the broad category does not switch into a Grappling Hook-specific zone.
What Embark says about the gadget’s role
Embark’s official Frozen Trail update explains why Grappling Hook is not simply presented as a linear replacement for another mobility item: “While the Snap Hook has previously been a ‘general use’ mobility gadget, with the introduction of the Grappling Hook, we felt the need to give them their own identity outside of a ‘linear upgrade’ path.” This statement describes the two gadgets’ intended roles; it does not provide a blueprint location or drop rate.
When to contact support
Contact official support if the game shows a progression reward as earned or claimed but the blueprint remains absent after restarting and checking the blueprint list. Include the current game version, platform, account identifier requested by support, pass tier, claim state, station availability and screenshots. Report the observed behavior rather than asserting a drop-rate bug: the available sources confirm no special Grappling Hook fix and do not establish that a missing random drop is an error.
Bottom line
A missing Grappling Hook Blueprint usually means you are dealing with random loot or a versioned progression route, not a secret guaranteed spawn. Check the live Frozen Trail Reward Pass, then the Outpost Research Station, and only afterward farm Weapon Cases or Raider Caches under favorable conditions. Verify every tier, cost and recipe in the current client, because the reported level, materials and drop behavior can change with updates.
